3.Going Back
Chapter Three
"NO! Don't even think of it young lady. I will not even hear of it." Gran stated.
"Why not? If there is a chance, we have to take it. Please Gran, you were willing to try. Why not let me?"
"Something could happen to you. What if your mother wakes up and you are gone? What will I tell her?" Gran asked.
"The truth! Something everyone has denied me for over nineteen years. I'm going to try, besides its better if I went than you. I'm younger and I'm not all human it would seem. Plus, I can take care of myself." Takara snatched the tiny jar off the table, palming it like a lifeline.
"I don't know."
"I'm going Gran. You stepped aside for mom, I ask you to do the same for me. Let me at least try, please."
"Fine but your mother used a bow for protection. I don't suppose you know how to shoot one." Gran asked. "Her old one is packed up somewhere I could find it for you."
Takara's eyebrow shot up. Oh yeah, who couldn't shoot a bow. It was hitting the broad side of a barn for her that was impossible. Explains why her mother had enrolled her into the archery club in middle school. Heh, what a laugh! Of course she had dropped out after accidently shooting a teacher in the leg. Sad part he'd been standing five feet away from the damn target. Her mother had been disappointed at her quiting. So Takara had asked about joining a sparring club instead. Kagome hadn't liked the idea at first but she'd given in. Archery just wasn't her thing it seemed. "I'll run to my house pack a few things and grab my katana."
"But you're only suppose to use that for class."
"Like they'll know. I'll make sure to wipe all the blood off before I come home."
"Thats not funny young lady." Gran glared at her.
"Sorry, I'll be careful I promise. I'll be back in the morning to leave. Are we going to tell Uncle Souta?"
"No, I'll tell him after you have gone. He'll try to stop you, or get me to stop you."
"Okay, I'll see you in the morning Gran." She hugged her and grabbed a picture of her parents off the table. "This might come in handy also."
Morning came bright and early for Takara. She was pulling up at the shrine barely after the sun rose. She snatched the pack out the passenger seat and climbed out. The black pack held two changes of clothing, some personal belongings, 24 of those health bars that made you feel bloated and a sheet. She didn't think she'd be able to check into the holiday inn and she refused to sleep on top of dirt. A small water bottle was in the side pocket, filled with frest water. As for the jewel shard, she'd taken it out the bottle and placed it inside the locket around her neck. The locket was a large heart, the chain pretty thick. She figured it was better than tying a string around that glass bottle. She had her katana from class strapped to her side. Of course she'd taken the liberty of sharpening it. At inspecting the weapon she'd discovered it was duller than her love life.
Gran was waiting for her at the door to the well. She'd called several minutes before to inform Gran that she was almost there. There were dark circles under her eyes and her hair was a mess. Takara walked up to her, ready to try it. "Gran."
"Are you sure hun? It might not even work."
"I know but we have to try something." They walked inside. "Let me remove the seals mom put down."
"Okay."
Takara reached down and pealed off the first seal, her hand tingled as she removed the paper. The rest were removed in the same fashion. Soon the double doors were once again open. The girl looked down and only saw darkness awaiting her. "If I break my ass don't laugh."
"If it works please be careful." Gran hugged her close. "We can't lose you either."
"I know. I'll be back with Inuyasha." She pulled back from the older woman. "Wish me luck." She climbed over the edge, her Nike's hanging over the edge. She pushed herself off and felt herself falling. Suddenly she was encased in light, her skin tingled and her stomach jerked.
Mrs. H. watched her only grandchild suddenly disappear in a flash of light. The well had let her through, sending her back to fuedal Japan.
Takara felt her feet land suddenly on soft ground and her knees buckled. She was still in the well, she should of asked Gran where she'd end up. She glanced up and saw the blue sky overhead. It had worked, she was here. "Fuck Me!" She looked around for something to grab ahold of. There was a vine not far out of her reach, she jumped up and grabbed ahold of it.
Once out, she sat on the edge and took a look around. The sun blazed down and she was glad she'd decided on a pair of khaki shorts. The wind blew across her face causing her hair to bitch slap her across the face. Okay that had to go up. She pulled a scrunchy out her bag and proceeded to place her waist length hair up into a tight bun. A few wayward strands fell down but it would have to do. She was going dog hunting not to a model shoot. Smoke rose in the distance, the village her mother had told Gran about most likely. That would be a good place to start.
A few birds soared over head as she walked towards the village. She soon came to a rice field, strange no one was outside working in it. A smile lit her face at seeing the outskirts of the huts. So it had to be true, all of it. Her mother was the guardian of this jewel and her father was a half youkai. She'd always wondered why she felt different from others at school. She had been faster, more agile, and tougher. Was a good thing in high school to be sure. She'd only gotten in one actual fight in the five years it'd taken her to graduate. Accidently putting your opponent in the hospital made others tend to stay clear of you.
A cry was heard as a woman spotted her walking towards them. "Youkai, we're under attack."
"Great. Maybe I should have dyed my hair before coming." She continued to walk forward. An elderly man came out one of the huts, looking her way. He had a sword in his hand, he looked pissed. She prayed gramps wasn't looking for a fight.
He came within shouting range. "Halt state your business."
"I'm looking for someone that is all. I'm looking for a 'friend' of my mother's. Perhaps you could tell me where he might be. I was told he use to stay here in the village. The name is Inuyasha." She watched his jaw hit the dirt as he took a step back.
"Did Lady Sango send you?"
That was one of her mother's friends. "No, my mother's name is Kagome. I have come on her behalf."
"You are Lady Kagome's daughter, impossible."
"Wanna check my birth certificate?" She placed her hands on her hips, glaring. "She is indeed my mother and I've come to find Inuyasha. Can you tell me where to find him or not?"
"Hn... Lord Inuyasha resides in the west with the others." He stated like she should have known that.
"What others?"
"Those that oppose to be ruled under the hanyou that controls all these lands. Naraku."
