3.Heading Back?
Chapter Three
Rae was slowly driving down main street heading towards the Higurashi shrine. Her thoughts were in turmoil even after sitting up half the night debating if she should really believe everything Kagome had told her. Sure the history books could be right but was it possible to travel through time? She had been standing in the library doing nothing in particular, wasn't even sure why she was still there. But when she'd seen the girl walk up the urge to talk to her had been strong. Of course she had done it. And now she had a bag packed with some things she would need on a camping trip. Excitement, fear, and anxiety filled her leaving her empty. She'd told her father she'd be gone a few days staying with a friend in town. He'd nodded not yet realising that his token from his accident was missing. She blasted her radio trying not to think about what she was about to do. Even if they were able to go through it meant missing classes, not that it would hurt her much. Guess what worried her more was the fact that she wasn't a fighter or a priestess. She was Raelene! The most she could do was sit back and cheer while Kagome and her friends fought. The image of her standing back chanting 'Give me a K, give me an A,' while a nasty looking demon charged her caused a giggle to escape her tensed chest. She'd brought both books with her due to Kagome's persuassion. Something how Inuyasha's brother would help but he'd need proof. She should just hand her the books and tell her to deal with it herself. Her life was exciting enough as it was, right? Who needed to face death everyday? Having some horny geek chasing you in a pair of thongs on was exciting enough right?
She was wearing a pair of short cut off jeans, a dark blue tank top, and her sneakers. She put hair up in a french braid and out the way. Parking against the side walk near the shrine, she stepped out and grabbed her belongings and set her car alarm. Her luck she'd return and all four tires would be gone. With a heavy heart and a even heavier backpack she climbed the many steps that would lead her to Kagome and the well.
She hit the top and spotted Kagome in a discussion whom she had to guess had to be Kagome's mother. Well if she'd told her mom about trying to go back through guess the girl hadn't been making it up. Unless the whole family was compiled of nuttcases.
"Mom please, this is something I gotta do. Besides, I won't be alone Rae here will be with me."
Mrs. Higurashi turned to face the girl that had just joined them.
She took it upon herself to chirp in, "I'll guard her well." She gave the woman a thumbs up.
"Kagome, I don't think this is a good idea. But if you really feel like its something you have to do I can't stop you." She hugged her daughter. "Please be careful dear."
"Ready Rae?" Kagome walked leading the way to the well. She waited for her new companion to join her. "I have the jewel so maybe its best if we hold hands on the way down."
She climbed on the rim to stand beside Kagome and took her hand. "Okay, but if I break my ankle because we can't get through you are going to take my place at this weekends pep rally." She felt the girl leap and was forced to follow. She watched as they fell and instead of hitting the bottom like she was expecting they were surrounded in a bright blue light. It felt like her insides were shifting within her body. Not a very pleasant feeling thats for sure.
Inuyasha was wearing a hole in soft rug placed at the foot of Sesshomaru's desk. His brother sat back against his chair casting a glare at him. Inuyasha had come to him several days before demading what the hell was up with his precious sword. The Lord of the Western Lands had already been looking into the strange events taking place. Two days ago there had been an eclipse of some sort but not like any he had ever seen. The moon itself had turned pitch black leaving the night without any light to luminate the sky. Even the sword his father had left him, the Tenseiga, had been acting strange. Still attached to his side it was pulsing violently as if trying to warn him. He had searched all the books contained in his home but to no avail. He was sure every demon had felt something the night of the black moon. His senses had flared to life as if expecting an attack. "You could help instead of wearing a hole in my rug."
"Heh, I don't know how to read. I'll leave that sort of thing for you to do. I'll just sit here and wait." He took a seat right on top of his brother's desk causing a growl to escape from Sesshomaru. He let his mind wonder to other things, not this new threat. As usual mind focused on Kagome. It had been over two years since she'd disappeared back to her own time. Would she ever come back? He missed her terribly and thought of her everyday. Would he live to see her again? Him and Sesshomaru already heard some of the rumors flying around concerning the black moon. Demons were whispering of creatures that couldn't be defeated. He smirked at the idea of a demon being out there that he nor Sesshomaru couldn't defeat.
A year ago he'd given up any hope of seeing Kagome come through the well once more. He'd tried to go through after her but had been stopped by the cold ground. He'd lost Kikyo and Kagome on the same day. He tried to live with the lose of both the women he'd loved. Everything became different after Naraku had been destroyed. Sango and Miroku had settled down with Shippo at Kaede's village. Sesshomaru had returned to his lands no longer finding it neccesary to fight with his younger brother. Much to Inuyasha's suprise the young girl Rin stayed with his brother. Somewhere in this castle the little girl was terrorizing Jaken no doubt.
Him and Sesshomaru had called a silent truce though they bickered more often than not.
Sesshomaru skimmed the over the ancient scrolls that his father had maintained over his years as ruler but nothing mentioned about their current problem. Something had been born that this Sesshomaru had no doubt. Without finding the origin to their problem how could they find the solution. The answer had to be in here somewhere but where? He knew the hanyou wouldn't leave till he found something to appease him. So he went back to his reading wishing his brother would have atleast learned to read.
Kagome and Rae climbed out of well dragging their belongings behind them. Kagome felt the cool breeze slide across her face and her heart jumped in joy. She was back! No one greeted them as they emerged and it was to be expected. Rae stood there wide eyed, unbelieving.
"No fucking way, it actually worked. Wow theres not much here is there. We aren't going to be attacked are we?"
"Not yet, I don't think. Lets head to the village and speak to Kaede."
Shippo was sitting outside playing with the village children while Miroku and Sango were inside bickering again. He'd decided to stay with them instead of Inuyasha. They were the only family the kit had left besides Kagome. Sango was expecting their first child and was always in a bad mood. The monk hadn't lost his lecherous ways after wedding her which caused more problems. He was about to go ask about his breakfast when the wind carried a long forgotten scent across his nose.
Sango was inside berrating Miroku once again. He'd been outside early this morning speaking to the young girls of the village. He threw his hands up swearing it had all been innocent but she wasn't buying it. She was about to bring the spoon she'd been stirring their breakfast with across his head when Shippo's excited squeel caused her to stop midair. "KAGOME!"
Her and Miroku ran outside to see if their friend had truly returned. Sango's heart dropped when she spotted her walking towards the village.
Kagome heard the tiny kit call her name and smiled. She opened her arms as he raced towards her, leaping into her arms. "Shippo, how are you?"
"Kagome, you're really back. Why did you leave me?" He hugged the woman he thought of as his mother.
"Yes, Kagome why ever did you leave us?" Miroku walked up and embraced his friend jumping back when he felt Shippo give him a pinch. He turned and noticed Kagome's new companion. "Well what do we have here?" He grabbed her hand and gave her his best smile. "Will you do me the honor of bearing my child?"
Rae first reaction had been to slap the pervert but thought better of it. "I'm sorry, fraid I can't do that." She faked a blush. "You see I only have sex with other women."
Miroku's face turned bright red and he sputtered. "Well in that case." He turned back to Kagome. "Its good to see you again Kagome. Sango will be glad to see you I'm sure, speaking of which."
Sango heard the girl's comment and promised to give her husband a good thrashing later. Now, she would be content at his obvious embarressment. She brought Kagome in her arms. "You look great. What has brought you back to us?"
"You're pregnant. Wow, you must be almost due." The girl's stomach looked like she swallowed a balloon. Kagome could tell that they were happy together despite the monks perverted ways. "I'd like everyone to meet, Raelene. Rae this is Sango, Miroku, and the little one here is Shippo."
Please read and review. Sorry its kind of short but its bed time.
