Chapter 4

Ryomaru was hurt and sad because of what his father had said to him.He's always tried not to dissapoint his father even if he didn't want to be daiyokai,it was still his responsibility.When he walked in the bedroom Tomonori was already laying down, dressed in nothing but a powder blue hakama on. His eyes were closed but Ryomaru knew he wasn't asleep "what's wrong" he asked eyes still closed. Ryomaru stripped down to his hakama and crawled into Tomonori's bed."Why does Chichi-ue have to be such an ass?" he whimpered as Sesshomaru's words replayed in his mind. Tomonori wrapped a protective arm around him and lifted his chin. "What did he say to you?" he asked as his anger began to rise. Ryomaru snuggled closer to his chest "I don't want to be daiyokai, I just want to be a father" he muttered weakly. Tomonori's grip became tighter "I know and someday you will be" he said but Ryomaru was already asleep.

Tomonori could just picture his Aunt Kagome singing that to him as he looked down at his mate. Ryomaru's face looked like he was on the verge of tears, even in his sleep. It was no secret around the palace that Ryomaru never wanted to be the next daiyokai. Everyone knew even the servents but the one person who didn't know was Sesshomaru.'I don't know what he said to you but I'll find out. No one has the right to cause you so much pain. No one not even the great Sesshomaru' he thought as he began to fall asleep. He would talk to his father, man to man first thing in the morning.

When Ryomaru woke up the first thing that he realized was that his mate was gone. A wave of panic and abandonment washed over him untill he realized that Tomonori was still in the palace. But what he didn't know was that his mate was about to have a talk with Sesshomaru. He got dressed knowing his mate would find him later on in the day. For now he would spend time with his brother and sister.
In Sesshomaru's study...
Tomonori stood outside the door of his father's study, no one in the palace truely needed to knock. "Come in Tomonori" he heard the simple command and stepped inside confidently. Unlike his other siblings Tomonori knew no fear for his father because he acted the most like him. He took the seat in front of Sesshomaru and waited for his father to make eye contact, he did. Sesshomaru could see the anger glimmering in his sons eyes "What's on your mind Tomonori?" he asked calmly. Tomonori didn't say anything 'He's amused' he noted silently. "What did you say to Ryomaru last night" he said showing no emotion. This indeed amused Sesshomaru "Why is it your concern?" he asked.
Again Tomonori said nothing 'He's trying to distract you' he noted 'Always know as much as you can about your opponent' he thought smirking inwardly. "Don't answer a question with a question" he said calmly his eyes never leaving Sesshomaru's. They began to stare at each other. 'He's trying to intimidate you' Tomonori thought still staring Sesshomaru down."You smell like him" Sesshomaru noted as he sniffed the air around his son.'He's trying to pry into your life' he thought "Him and I share the same room, but you never answered my question" he said still keeping his calm demeanor."What did you say to him?" he asked again this time his anger was evident.
Sesshomaru nodded he would play along with his sons little game and see where it led "I told him...that I was dissapointed in him and that he would never have the potential to be daiyokai" he said his voice holding an arrogant tone. That seemed to be "The straw the broke the camels back" because Tomonori couldn't hide the truth any longer "This Tomonori doesn't appreciate what you've said to his mate" he said angrily. On the outside Sesshomaru had shown no emotion but on the inside he was shocked. He knew that Ryomaru had chosen a mate but he never knew it was Tomonori.'He's shocked, I can see it in his eyes' Tomonori thought. Sesshomaru's face never changed but his eyes told a diffrent story 'Eyes are a gateway to a persons soul and emotions' Inuyasha had once told Tomonori that.
"Gomen, I'm sorry you had to find out this way father" he said it sounded sincere but it wasn't and Sesshomaru knew it."He has to be strong or else he'll never be daiyokai, the pressure will surely crush him" he stated calmy. Tomonori began to dig his claws into the wooden chair untill a piece broke off with a loud snap. But one has to wonder if it was the chair that snapped, or Tomonori's control on his anger. "You are as stupid as you cunning father. How can you not see that you've picked and pushed the wrong son? Ryomaru has never wanted to be daiyokai, but to make you proud he's gone through hell and back. For what? To be constantly told that he's nothing but a dissapointment? He's done everything for you and you've never once praised him for his efforts.He's miserable because he doesn't want to fail you!" he screamed as loud as he could, his eyes flickering in and out from red to gold.
He sat down and tried to calm himself by thinking of Ryomaru, it helped him some what. "Whom do you suggest to take his place, surely it will not be you?" Sesshomaru said his voice raised slightly. If this were not his child before his he would be tempted to hurt him, but it was so he wouldn't. Tomonori didn't even have to think to answer his question "Kichuro, he's always wanted it. Shall I tell him the good news?" he asked confidently. Sesshomaru studied his son "Hai" he said with a small smirk. As Tomonori got ready to leave his father stopped him "I'm proud of you Tomonori" he said softly. Said boy walked backwards into the room to look at his father. "Why is it that you give your praise to those who don't want it, yet keep it hidden from those who try so hard to earn it?" he asked coldly as he walked out.
Sesshomaru stared out the doorway of which his son had left. He was well raised and acted just like him. But now Sesshomaru was being to wonder if that was such a good thing. His son had his courage, pride, strength but towards Sesshomaru, Tomonori had the one thing he didn't want his son to have. Towards his own father Tomonori had Sesshomaru's cold heart.

He was outside talking to Kichuro and Sango, he walked over quietly and sat down beside his mate. "I have good news" he muttered as he grabbed his waist. Ryomaru began to giggled and tried in vain to push Tomonori away as he began to tickle him. They little romantic moment was ruined when they heared "Congradulations!" blaring in their ears. It was Sango of course and she threw her arms around them in an instant, almost chocking them to death. When she finally let them go Tomonori began to speek again "My news concerns you as well Kich" he said looking at his started brother.
All ear fell on to Tomonori and his so-called news "I've finally made your wish come true" he said smirking as a confused look appeared on Kichuro's face.They all knew that Kicuro had only one wish in life and that was to become the Lord of the Western lands, he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps."How?" was all he wanted to know. "I'm not scared of father like you three are, last night he crossed the line and I told him so this morning. That's truely all you need to know" he said calmly as he watched their shocked faces. No one was chocked more than Ryomaru because he knew that what ever Tomonori said to Sesshomaru, was because of him.
Ryomaru laied his head down on Tomonori's shoulder "I missed you this morning" he whispered softly.Tomonori just nodded and wrapped an arm around his mate "Since when?" this time it was Aunt Kagome who messed up the moment. Tomonori looked at her but knew he couldn't be mad at the ningen before him. "Since yesterday" Ryomaru stepped in. She hugged them both in a sort of approving gesture and began to hum "Sunshine".
