A little catching up
Chapter Five:
Pulling into a small bar about ten minutes away from the school, Kagome sat in her car for a few minutes, thinking over what she had just done. She had completely over-reacted to something that was none of her business, and she was pretty sure her new friends thought she was crazy. Oh yeah, and she had just skipped school. Can't forget about that.
Collecting herself, she stepped out of the Get Getting to the door, she paused to give an old homeless man a couple bucks. Kagome opened the door to be hit with a cloud of smoke as thick as a brick wall. Letting her eyes adjust to the darkness, she heard an old man call out to her "Aren't you supposed to be in school?" Ignoring him, she sat down at the bar.
"Can I get you anything?" The bartender said, more of a statement than a question. "Shouldn't you card me or something? Would you actually serve alcohol to a minor?" Turning, the bartender smiled at the familiar voice. "Kag! Long time no see! Where the hell ya been?" "Lemme bum a cig and I'll tell ya the whole story Hiten."
Hiten was a young man of twenty-three with fairly long, beautiful black hair and a muscular build. He had started working in the bar after his brother Manten was killed, then dropped out of school, deciding to go back and get his GED after his life calmed down. His life was about as calm as it would ever get, and he was definitely procrastinating about the whole GED thing. His parents were long gone, and he lived in a not so good part of town in a not so good motel, despite Kagome's offer to let him live in her spacious home, which was actually more like a mansion.
Digging around in his pants pocket, he came out with a pack of Newports and a lighter. "I haven't seen you in months and the first thing you do is take my cigarettes...don't believe it..." He took one out for himself, lit it, put the lighter in the carton, and then slid the pack over the bar top to his friend. "Hey, I'm not legal yet, my eighteenth birthday isn't for a few months." "Excuses, excuses. Anywho, tell me 'bout life." So, she did. She told him about how she had gotten kicked out of her newest school for 'continual skipping, excessive tardiness, and disrespect towards herself, her peers, and authority figures', how her father got married and forgot to tell her until he and his American gold-digger wife Liana came back from their honeymoon, which her father had said was a business trip, how mommy dearest never even got her name right, how she hadn’t gotten laid in weeks, and how she had snapped at her new friends.
"Hey Hun, I’m sorry. That other school was shit anyways. The people there are fucked. That Liana bitch needs to fly her all-American ass back to her own country, and your dad should be right beside her, first class. I could help you with your sexual tension, if you'd allow. And I’m sure your friends won't care. All ya gotta do is explain why a guy abandoning his pregnant girlfriend is a touchy subject for you." "You're right, and you know I won't sleep with you. We've done it once, a that was it. You're my best friend, and sex would ruin it."
Kagome had met Hiten little over three years ago at a rave. She had been completely wasted and slept with him, but not before she told him all her troubles. He had written his number and name on her stomach, with a little note telling her to call him. Hiten had been her sole confident ever since. Glancing at the Budweiser clock mounted on the wall, she checked the time. 1:25. She had been there for forty-five minutes.
"Got anybody to cover for you? I wanna get some fine dining...like Denny's or IHOP maybe. You're driving." Kagome giggled. "Sure, lemme go get Ayame." Hiten went into the backroom and came out about five minutes later, followed by a short wolf demon girl with rust-red hair, the top of it in pigtails, and big green eyes. She was wearing a white short skirt and a black and red corset-style tank top. Lifting up part of the bar top to leave, Hiten raised a hand to say goodbye. "Thanks Ayame, I'll pay ya back. Hiten and I have got catching up to do. I'll call ya, alright?" "Sure, whatever."
