Rion: MEEP! *cowers* Don't hurt me! I know I haven't updated, but I have a good reason, honest! My grandfather died earlier, and I have been in a sort of depression. He and I were really close. Anyways, I hope you can forgive me if this chappie is a bit 'demented'.

DISCLAIMER: Ne, can't you guys quit teasing me with this? ;_; Inuyasha is in no way mine.

Chapter Three: Where Were You? (When I Needed You)

She silently slipped into her now dry clothing. Crystalline blue eyes glanced upwards. Kagome vaguely wondered what it would have been like had everything been different. If, so to say, Inuyasha loved her.

She smiled wistfully and closed her eyes. 'No, he wouldn't have loved me,' she thought. Even so, she was glad that she was over him. It wasn't so painful when she smelt the disgusting scent of death and dried pottery on him when he returned from his nightly 'scouts'. Opening her eyes, she turned her back on the scintillate river she had come across and began her journey of searching once more. For what? She all together wasn't entirely sure.

With that, she walked silently from the gentle waters. Because she was so lost in thought, she never saw it coming.

Lady Adearou (a/n: For those of you who are like me, and hate it when you can't pronounce something correctly, here is how: A dea row) of the Eastern Lands had been sitting quietly in her makeshift room when they brought her in. The tent was big enough to fill her guards, mate, and herself three times over. Adearou was ever elegant and regal by nature, but that by no means led her to be a 'snob'. She preferred to keep things simple. Such would be an accurate description of why her tent held no glamour of her real life, but one of only a minor lord's wife.

Adu wau wasn't prepared when she first rested her sea green eyes on the lovely figure who was bleeding profusely on her carpet. Matronly instinct took over.

"Bring to me, Shiroro," was all she said. Shiroro, the head of the guards who had found the poor youkai, brought the barely living angelic creature to his mistress. He had found her on the side of the road up ahead. She was just as she looked now: unconscious and pouring crimson. Shiroro silently wondered what had happened to get her in such a condition. As far as he could tell, she hadn't been raped, but was very close in the encounter. And thus, he repeated this information to his Lady.

"That is all, Shiroro. You are dismissed." Adearou looked on with a concerned eye at the creature before her. She was an odd one, yes. Unlike any other she had ever been graced to seen. Reaching out to heal the wounds of the poor dear, she was shocked to discover a faint blue shield that sent her hand flying back. Her curiosity was sparked. 'The poor thing. She looks very powerful, and yet she remains untrained. How is it that ao iso is a youkai? Doesn't that just waste the perfectly preserved balance between the mikos and us?' Adearou wondered. Shifting aside a lock of stray metallic blue and black hair, she almost gasped at the symbol on her forehead. 'That is the mark of the Ancient Ones. And a Royale Isreria (a/n: me again: Roy All Is re re a) at that. It is said that they have beetinctinct for over a thousand years. And yet, here is one in my arms. This will be the beginning of a new history. I can feel it. I know for certain that she will probably wipe youkai from this world. Or, in another way of politely saying it, she will shift us into another dimension. Never the less, she is wounded, untrained, and has been left in my care. She will be among friends when she awakens,' thought the every caring Lady of the Eastern Lands.

Kagome slowly opened her eyes. Instead of feeling immense pain, likely she was sure she was supposed to, she did not. 'Is this death?' she thought before her bleary eyes could focus. Blinking a few times, she felt her pupils adjust. Furrowing her brows, she pondered the fact of where she was. For when she awoke, it was not to the cheery blue sky with speckles of clouds, or to the dark mysterious night, but to a high ceiling made with wooden risers. Rising from her futon, she swished her ebony tail indecisively.

"So you are awake, obyatea*?" Came a silken voice from across the room. Swirling her head to meet the eyes of the unknown, Kagome's head spins terribly. Clutching the sides of her crania, she moans softly.

"You should not make such quick movements after having awoken from the sleep of seven days," with a gasp from a disgruntled Kagome, she went on speaking, "I am Lady Adearou of the Eastern Lands. And for now, you are a guest. I have a proposition for you. But as of yet, rest for a while, and we shall speak over dinner."

When Kagome's eyes focused for the second time, she caught a glimpse of her savior. The lady was dressed eloquently. Her style was not common, for it was not richly made to fit such a Lady. And yet, the woman's natural overall beauty made even the simplest of clothing gorgeous. Her hair was a soft brown, and her eyes a kind green. She felt her lips twitch in a smile small.

"You have my eternal gratitude, my lady," Kagome barely managed to whisper out as she fell into slumber once more.

"It is I who should be thanking you, obyatea. For you, one day, will decide the fate of the demon empire. And also," Adearou added humorously, "you've given me entertainment for the time being."

Her soul felt words fell on the deaf ears of the sleeping youkai.

Kagome found herself dressed in plain garments that felt unusually right on her. When she had found the baggy pants, she was surprised. Society usually deemed pants as 'mens' clothing. Kagome smiled brightly as she was led by one of the more shy and quiet servants into the dining hall.

"Thank you," she said to the servant. The girl blinked at the kind implications she wasn't used to having. Normally only the Lady treated her such. She smiled widely and nodded her head before opening the grands doors for Kagome.

Kagome had to gape at the beautiful room that awaited her. It was the most magnificent thing she had ever seen. From the pale beige walls, to the fashionably accurate and flowered dinning table. She smiled broadly and looked for Adearou. Amazingly, they dined alone.

"I know that you are puzzled, dear one. My guards found you on the roadside, and immediately you when given attention to. Your injuries were grave ones," she said grimly, striking up the start of the conversation and doing so bluntly. Suddenly a soft smile appeared on her graceful lips, "But somehow you survived. And thus, now I offer to train you. In return, I would appreciated if we kept your profile low." Seeing that Kagome was about to interrupt, she held her hand up. "It is not because I am ashamed of having you, or helping you, or anything of that matter. My reasons are my own. I hope with the bottom of my very heart that you will not ask questions concerning the subject."

Stunned, Kagome could only nod. Finding her sense, she replied, "I would be honored to stay here. For now, at least. I am very grateful that you offer me such a thing. And as for questions, what was that you were saying again?" She smiled.

Adearou grinned happily. 'Oh yes, what a clever one this is. I like her already.'

Kagome smiles with her eyes alone. It was tiShe She stood atop a hill, staring out over the vast lands of the Eastern empire. 'I am happy that I came here so long ago. Otherwise, I would never have gained my skills I have now. Even I admit, mine would rival those of Inuyasha's half-brother, Sesshoumaru,' she thought, though not as arrogant as it may have seemed. On the thought of Inuyasha, that was the only part she regretted. That and her family. She had only visited once to tell her family she wouldn't be returning, but if she survived, may one day see them. And with that, she had destroyed one of her various weaknesses. She had destroyed the Bone Eater's Well. It was a relief in a way. Other than that, she only regretted not saying good-bye to Shippou and the others. If they missed her half as much as she missed them, then they were in pain as well.

Shrugging the thought off, she turns away from the castle that had been her home for a year, and takes off at a fast pace into the forest.

"Look out world, here I come," was her last words as she sped off into the early morning.
