Chapter Three: Who (Or What) Are You?!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Xol found that silence wasn't particularly a great companion. And that was exactly what Sesshoumaru was. Silent. Her fiery orbs momentarily turned to watch him as they walked. As soon as he had offered his assistance, Sesshoumaru had sheathed his sword. He had also been quick to point out what a 'bloody mess' Xol was.

~ Flashback ~

They were just starting to head out when Sesshoumaru stopped right beside her. Glancing at the mystery so close to him, a foul scent wafted into his nose. Fighting the urge to cringe, he spoke quietly.

"The scent you carry is atrocious. Go cleanse your face of that filthy youkai's blood," he said. Xol, for the first time since seeing him, remembered the sticky red substance on her face. Thinking about the gory scene moments before made her want to gag. Shaking her head, she glared over at him.

"And how do you suppose I do that?" Although her words where insolent, her tone was not. Sesshoumaru had to wonder for a brief second if she realized that for saying that, had he been more like he used to, she would not have remained living. Never-the-less, he answered her, "There is a small hot springs not so far fherehere. Go to it."

Xol placed a hand on her hip. "I would if I knew where it was." Inwardly, Sesshoumaru taunted her by the fact that her weak human hearing could not answer her own question.

"It is ahead."

Xol fought the impulse of rolling her eyes. "Then I'm afraid you nose will have to bare the burden of the insufferable scent of the lowly snake, Sesshoumaru-sama.

~ End Flashback ~

Her eyes narrowed. If it wasn't for him in the first place, she wouldn't have had to worry about the crimson liquid that adorned her cheek! Xol sighed lightly. Then again, he did save her. Taking her eyes off of her taciturn guide, she looked ahead.

They were just reaching the edge of the forest.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sesshoumaru had kept a quiet watch on his young companion. After removing the almost intorlerable scent of the snake youkai, he had found her own enchanting. It was sweet and innocent in a manner that made her most irresistible. Her intoxicating scent was a soft blend of roses, gardenias, and vanilla. He had to wonder if she knew what she did to him.

With his thoughts on the golden-haired girl, he almost missed the fact that she was staring ahead at something. Looking as well, he noted they were basically at the end of the forest. Stopping, he turned to her.

"This is where I leave you," he said softly. Xol glanced over at him as he began walking away.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Wait!" She called. Sesshoumaru paused. Running up to him, she smiles brightly and takes hold of his hand, careful to avoid his deadly claws. "I want to thank you. If ever you need help with something," at his sharp look, she quickly added, "though I doubt you ever will, I'll be there." She squeezed his had once and turned. She ran towards the direction he had earlier said the village stood in.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sesshoumaru looked down at his hand and smiled the tinest of smiles. Startling himself, his cold composure returned. His eyes narrowed.

'You're to intriguing for your own good, Xolairous,' he thought as he began his trek back to his castle and western lands.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Xol was in high spirits when she walked into the village, so she barely noticed the way the people looked at her. Especiathe the men. Shaking her head, she looked for some clue for an inn, or something.

'I should have thought ahead. And based on how this town works, I'm guessing that I either fell through a time portal or different reality, or quiet simply an amish establishment. But then again, I don't think demons are too very high in society back at home. I didn't sense any, anyway.' So lost in thought was she, she did not notice the young boy running towards her. His head was turned over his shoulder as he did so, almost as if looking out for something. His dark black hair was cut roughly, a peasant then. He ran into her hard, pushing her slight frame to the ground. Without looking back, (Or apologizing!) the young presumable thief kept running.

Xol didn't know she was falling until she felt the ground. And when her head hit something hard, she only felt pain before her world turned black.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

~ Some time later ~

She awoke to darkness. At first she felt a slight panic begin to form, but then she realized that her eyes were closed. Xol almost laughed aloud in relief. Key word: almost. The sharp pain she had sustained from falling was gone. She was only half surprised. Xol was a quick healer.

She opened her eyes to a ceiling. At first she felt the comfort of a familiar setting. Then she realized sge was no long resident in Solii's house. In fact, she wasn't even sure she was in his existance. Humbled, she moved her head to get a better look around.

The room was crammed with herbs and other things related to such things. She figured it belong to a healer. 'How did I get here?' She thought as she sat up.

"I wouldn't do that if I were ye," came a soft, raspy yet feminine voice. Xol looked to the doorway and found it occupied by a woman who looked to be in her fifties with an eyepatch over one eye. "Ye might become a little dizzy with the wound ye got when ye fell." The elder woman said at Xol's quizzical look.

Xol smiled faintl"I d"I don't think that's nessessary," she stated.

"And why's that?" Came the response.

"I'm healed," she declared flatly, almost as though it were obvious. At the woman's incredulous look, she began removing the wrapping on her head to prove her point.

"Now, don't ye be doing that!" The elder cried, indignite.

The last of the bandage fell into her lap. "I'm fine," she repeated. The woman stared openly for a few seconds before replying, "By the Four Souls! So ye are in good condition." Shaking her head, the woman smiled.

"I'm Kaede, the village priestess. Would ye not mind to much if I asked where ye are from?"

Xol stiffened. Should she? Would the kind priestess, Kaede, believe her tale? Looking to her, she found only kindness, so Xol found herself telling her story. Of course, she left out the part about her abilities, such as not aging.

By now Kaede was sitting down, listening patiently. "Ye's story is just like that of a young girl I know. Her name is Kagome. She is from the future as well. And ye say that Sesshoumaru saved ye?" The tone in her voice had a trace of amazement. When had the cold Lord ever thought of anyone besides him and his? Shaking her head, the old priestess looked across to Xol. The girl was something else, literally. Kaede knew almost as soon as she stared into the young, or rather young looking girl's eyes. (Plus her odd clothing was a good hint as well.) They were a most questioning fiery red and orange.

"Really?" Xol asked, enthralled at the thought that there might be another in her predicament. "You think it's possible I --" She was cut off by a door opening, and a rather loud voice.

"Hey, old woman! We're back," said an obnoxious voice. Well, to Xol it was anyway. Kaede looked up, used to the impolite greeting of the infamous Inuyasha. Kagome and the others also followed suit and went inside the priestess hut.

Inuyasha fell silent at the sight that was before him. He blinked a few times before announcing, "Who's that? She looks strange. And she's dressed like a whore." Xol almost hit him at the last comment. Her red eye flared with annoyance.

"So rude," Kagome said queitly, looking at Inuyasha. She, as well as Sango and Miroku, turned to face Kaede. Her eyes widened at Xol.

"This is Xolairous-chan. Xol-chan, the is rude one Inuyasha, the girl beside him Kagome, Shippou is the kitsune by her. And behind them is Sango and her friend Kirara, and the monk Miroku," Kaede broke the silence.

"Hello," Xol said softly.

Rion: *is done Xol-chasing* Yay!! Another chapter! ^-^;; Pretty long, ne? It's to make up for not posting in a while.

Xol: *mutters* Don't see why she continues, not like anyone reads it.

Rion: *tears up* Hey! You're so cruel. ;_;

Xol: *rolls eyes* Whatever.

Kagome: Now this is a side of Xol I haven't seen yet. Oo;;

Inuyasha: Yeah, what's up? P.M.S.ing or something?

Xol: *eyebrows twitches* EXCUSE ME?!

Inuyasha: *gulps* I -- uh . . .

Xol: *whaps him over the head with a hammer* I feel better.

Shippou: That had to hurt.

Inuyasha: @_@

Rion: How I love it when they aren't Rion-bashing! WEEE!! Until the next time!
