Chapter Thirty-Seven


"Kagome?"

"I'm here."

"He's retreating, we won but if we let him go he'll be back. Help me?"

"Right, lets go kick his ass."

"Thank you." The energy shot forward and disappeared inside the portal.


{Two weeks later}

Yusuke sat against the tree, his eyes stayed glued to the snake wrapped around his hand. Baby slithered up his arm as he gazed into the her eyes. A tear slide down his face, as the snake stared back. Keiko came walking up to sit beside him, she tried to smile at him, "Does that thing sleep with you?"

"Yes, she does."

"Yusuke, I'm sorry." She watched the tears begin to fall but didn't know how to comfort him. "I saw Kurama speaking to Mai, what did he have to say?"

"It's official, the search has been called off." He didn't care if it had been called off, he wouldn't give up hope. He refused to believe that he'd lost her.

"I'll give you some time alone." Keiko left him sitting there and went inside Genkai's to talk to Kurama.

The blonde was crying in his arms, fresh tears streamed down her face. "No, they have to come back." He held her, stroking her hair. "Hello Keiko."

"Hey, hows Hiei taking everything?"

"Worse than Yusuke I'm afraid. Mukuro is trying to deal with him, I don't envy her." Kurama couldn't imagine what the fire youkai was going through. "He's never let himself care for anyone, tragic for him to fall in love and to have to watch her die."

"They aren't dead." Mai sobbed from his chest. "I know it, somewhere they are alive. They will come back."

"There, I see him." The voice spoke in the darkness. A growl could be heard in the distance. In a plane of dark existense a battle was being fought. Light against darkness.

{A month later}


Hiei landed beside the detective softly, the boys shoulders jerked up feeling the presence. The fire youkai sat down beside him not sure what to say. Should he give the boy what could be false hope? He could simply be honest and let the boy decide on his own.

"What are you doing here Hiei?" Yusuke turned to him, Baby's head shot up from around his neck.

"Came to speak to you." Hiei eyed the damn thing, and felt his heart take a dive to his stomach. "I'm not sure how you will take it. I had a dream last night but the jagan was open. I don't think it was a dream."

"What did you see?"

"Two foolish women that decided that winning wasn't enough, so they went after the damn thing to make sure it never came back."

"Are you serious? So they didn't die?" Yusuke wasn't sure how to take it.

"I don't think so, I think that even as we speak a battle is being fought somewhere." Hiei placed his hand on his knee looking up into the sky. "Even if they win, there is no way for them to return from that plane."

"Thanks why bother telling me that they are still alive just to tell me that I'll still never see her again."

He just shrugged, he wasn't sure why he had bothered to tell him. "I just thought you should know."

"Thanks. Are you going to the wedding? It's in a month you know." Yusuke asked.

"I suppose, I think she would have wanted me to attend."

"Yeah, I think so too."


"Hold on, hold on. We did it, hold on Kag's. I'm taking us home." Light filled the darkness, then suddenly disappeared.


A/N: I really didn't want to go into a fight scene, simply because they had turned into a source of holy energy. A ball of energy with basically two souls inside. It was exactly that; a fight between light and darkness. Next chapter the wedding.
