~*~ Bittersweet Symphony Part I ~*~
~*~ It's been 7 years since I last updated this story. So many things has happened to me (getting married, being a mom & then being a full time mom) that I all but forgot I have an unfinished business here. Not that I'm making any excuses, but I want all my loyal readers to know that I'm back, and I'm finishing my story as promised. So I hope you guys enjoy and don't forget to leave me some reviews ok. I miss answering them. ^_^ ~*~
~*~ Bittersweet Symphony Part I~*~
"Midoriko sama,"
The taijiya and the houshi both went down to their knees and bowed their heads as soon as the priestess appeared. The said lady gave them a benevolent smile in return.
"Stand, my friends. It is I who shoul bow down to you. If it weren't for your efforts, I would still be trapped inside the jewel. You have my gratitude,"
"M-my l-lady, please h-help me,"
Kikyou pleaded to Midoriko as she desperately struggled to breathe against Inuyasha's ever-tightening stranglehold. The miko then turned her enigmatic eyes to her succesor's predicament. Nothing could be read out of her expression.
"Release her, Inuyasha. I will not allow you to do this,"
Midoriko said as she lifted her hand to touch Inuyasha's shoulder. But the hanyou was quicker. Without letting go of his captive or letting up on his hold of her, he deftly leaped away from the miko. He looked at her with those menacing blood red eyes.
"Stay away,"
He spat out, surprising those with him that he could still talk while in his demon form. Just then, Sesshomaru went to stand in front of his brother and slowly took Tokijin out of its' scabbard as he faced Midoriko.
"You will not interfere, do you understand? No other has the more right to kill her than my brother. This Sesshomaru shall ensure he has his retribution,"
The Lord of the Western Lands said impassively.
Sango and Miroku were up to their feet now, not really knowing what to say or do. But they knew-- the Inu-youkai was right: Inuyasha had to avenge Kagome's death.
"Midoriko-sama, please understand. I know that you think that Kikyou is still the same, but she's not anymore. She's changed, and has done so many horrible things it's unspeakable. This is her punishment; this is justice being meted out,"
"You know that I respect you, and that I honor you my lady. And I also know that your eyes are not blinded to the truth. You know in your heart that Inuyasha has the right of this,"
They both pleaded and reasoned to the miko. Midoriko slowly nods her assent.
"I know, my children. I know. No one else could know how much evil Kikyou has done than me. And it pains me that she has become like this. But this is not the justice we are all looking for; make no mistake: justice shall be served. But not like this. She has served the jewel wholeheartedly and faithfully until the end,"
Inuyasha was now growling deep in his throat as gurgling sounds can be heard coming from Kikyou. His intent was clear: he's going to kill her!
Suddenly a bright light flashed over them, making them shield their eyes from its' brightness. When it vanished, they saw one miko holding the other one, far away from the hanyou. Kikyou, it seemed, was saved.
"Noo!!! I'm going to shred that bitch to pieces,"
Inuyasha growled as he ran towards the two women.
"Inuyasha, don't!"
Miroku tried to warn his friend, but to no avail. As the hanyou leapt to deal the final blow, pink energy surrounded both mikos, forming an impenetrable barrier. Inuyasha howled as he made contact with it, the hiss of the severe burn he received from it echoing. Midoriko never took her eyes off of Inuyasha as she proceeded to help the still-coughing Kikyou.
"You have to fight it, Inuyasha. This lust for revenge and for Kikyou's blood is going to ruin you. You know this couldn't have been what Kagome wanted,"
Midoriko reminded Inuyasha gently. Upon hearing his mate's name being uttered, the crimson slowly seeped out of Inuyasha's eyes, revealing golden orbs awash with anger, torment and grief.
"What do you fucking know about Kagome huh!? What do you even care about her? You've been prattling about how that bitch you're holding served you faithfully, but what about Kagome? She fucking devoted her life for the jewel--for us! Do you know how she left her home, her family--even her fucking era just to see this through! Do you know how many ass-beating she'd had just to protect this fucking jewel I'm holding? And do you know how many times she risked her life just to make sure this thing was completed? And that bitch you're protecting went ahead and killed her. And for what? For revenge! Where's the justice in that huh? So don't talk to me about justice, because you obviously don't know a fucking thing about it!"
Inuyasha ended his tirade as he prepared to lash out at the barrier. Just then, Tetsusaiga came whirling towards him. He caught the hilt as it flew and looked to where the sword came from. His brother's hand was still smoking from the burn he got.
