Chapter Thirty-Six

Kagome was mortified as she was carried away, her face was a bright red color. "Put me down, I can't believe you." A hand was brought down on her backside. "Did you just spank me?" What the others must think. She could hear the gasps and snickers of the people they passed on their to wherever he was headed.

He opened the door to her room and walked inside. He tossed her on the bed and looked down at her. Her face was flushed, her eyes large as she glared at him. He looked down at her and realized why seeing the hanyou holding her had bothered him so much. He had succumbed to the foolish emotion known as love.

Kagome didn't like the way he was looking at her and tried to get up off the bed. He was on her before she managed to get one limb off. He had her pinned on the bed holding her down with his hands. His mouth crashed down on hers, she recieved the kiss. He dipped inside her mouth tasting what sweetness she had to offer. He released her and brought a hand to cup her cheek tenderly. He smiled down at her, "You will learn your place."

"What exactly is my place?"

He lowered his mouth once more placing a soft kiss, "At my side." Kagome felt her heart soar at the comment, then it fell. It didn't mean he loved her, it meant he wanted her. He was a youkai, very possessive, was she anything more than his new piece?

Someone was banging on the door. Yelling was heard, it was Touya, "Hiei we need you two, it's happened. We are meeting in the study."

Kagome stood up as soon as he moved. She didn't know what to say, yeah she did. If it had happened, it meant they would be heading out to fight. She was about to head to a fight where her chances of coming back alive were slim. There was a ninety-nine percent chance she would be dead tomorrow. Could she step up to help Taree, knowing that she could die and never have told him how she felt. "Hiei," He turned to look at her, he was standing in the door. "I love you." His eyes widened but he didn't say anything.

Once everyone was in the study, Kagome walked over to her two friends. She knew Inuyasha was watching, she smiled at him. She wanted to talk to him but she wouldn't get the chance now. Knowing what Taree was about to do she felt her friend needed her support.

Yomi addressed all of them, "It has been reported. Michio has been reborn, as we speak he is exiting his realm to enter the Makai. He is out enough for us to stop him, for Tar to stop him. There is still some there that will try to stop us. It will be up to us to make sure she gets there safely." His voice caught, "We leave in five minutes."

Kagome grabbed Taree's hand and gave it a quick squeeze, "How ya feeling?"

"Okay, I guess." She gave her best smile. "So that's your ex huh, he's kind of cute."

"Yeah, he is."

"Does he know that you belong to Hiei now." Taree laughed at her blush. "I think it's sweet. And you talk about me being head over heels in love. You should look at your face Kags."

"I told him."

"You told Hiei how you feel? Well I told Yusuke, not that it made much of a difference." She looked over at the man, he was standing next to Kurama. What she wouldn't give to hold him once more. She had no regrets, she had told him how she felt. She loved him and she would gladly give her life to make sure he was safe.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. He didn't say anything when I told him, just turned around after looking shocked. Well what else can we do?"

"Protect the ones we love." Taree informed her.

"You're right." Kagome wished she could tell her how right she was. Kagome planned on helping her protect them all, even if she didn't know it yet. Not only would she protect Hiei, she would try to protect Taree.

Yomi came back in the room. "Let's head out." He turned and shouted. His attention focused on Kagome, she knew he was reminding her of what she had to do.


"You gotta be fucking kidding me, that's it?" Yusuke couldn't believe his eyes. Just the thing's head and arms were out and it was impressive. It was actually looked like a big black demon straight from hell, horns and all. It growled when it sensed them, his minions attacked the group upon arrival.

Taree stared at him, the portal was only fifty feet in front of her. It glared at her, trying to swipe with its large claws. It's body was already sticking out about fifteen feet and that was just up to his breasts. Fear filled her and she brushed it aside, the hard part was over already. She had already dispatched his first in command.

The others quickly killed the few of his followers, the remaining youkai no match for the group of warriors that had shown up. Within minutes the only one left was Michio, he was still stuck halfway between worlds. Everyone looked at him for several minutes then started to panic.

He was already begining to feed it seemed. He was sucking in his breath, Kagome screamed. The only ones not being affected was her and Taree.

"What?" Hiei fell to his knees. He could feel his energy being drained, sucked out.

Even Sesshoumaru fell to his knees, "Destroy him now."

Taree shook her head, knowing it was time to say goodbye. She felt a tear slide down her face.

Yomi screamed, "No, don't." Everyone turned to him, was he out of his mind.

"Don't be a fool, she has to kill him or we all will die." Hiei yelled. "Do it."

"NO! Don't do it, let us fight it. I'd rather die than have you sacrafice yourself for me." He tried to stand up, rising his energy. "I won't watch you die."

Gasps were heard all around, Taree turned and looked at the being glaring at her. "We've discussed this, you don't have a choice in the matter."

"Are you telling me if she uses that damn thing she's going to die?" Touya tried to get up.

"Yes, she will die." Yomi was able to take a step forward. "Don't do it."

"Don't you dare dammit." Yusuke was standing up also. "Don't you fucking do it." He felt a tear slide down his cheek. He couldn't lose her.

"I'm sorry, I love you Yusuke so I have to do this." She ignored his screams as she got close enough. The stone was placed in her, it started spinning between her hands.

Kagome waited for her aura to flare and the light to start coming from the stone. She threw down her bow and rushed forward knowing that by the time Taree knew what she was planning it would already be too late. She was sure she heard Hiei scream her name. She appeared beside Tar and the girl turned to look at her.

"No, get back. I will not have you die with me." She knew then that Yomi had gone against her wishes and told Kagome.

Kagome placed her hands on top of the smaller girls, the power flew over her body at the contact. "Did you really think I'd let you do this alone? You are my best friend, the only person that understood what it meant to be me." Tears streamed down her face. "We made a promise; till the end."

Taree felt her own tears flow, "Till the end Gome." She let the power consume her.

Kagome could feel her friend slipping, she had to do something. Yomi had said offer up her own energy. She wished to save her friend, she concentrated on that one wish. She felt something begin to pulse deep inside her. Her energy sprang forth in a bright light consuming them both.

"Kagome," Hiei yelled along with the hanyou. No one could move or interefere as both were consumed in a bright light, turning into pure energy.

Michio started to back up and begin to withdraw into the portal. The energy began to wrap around him, scorching him. He suddenly disappeared inside the hole. They all watched as the mass of energy shot forth to enter the portal and it closed.

They could all move again, Yusuke ran forward where they'd been standing. "Where are they? I don't see them."

Yomi sunk to his knees, it hadn't been enough. Neither girl had survived.
