CHAPTER 38: WORRIED SICK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaken found Lord Sesshoumaru conversing to a group of diplomats from different countries, some were youkais, but for the most part the vast majority they were human. Jaken’s sensitive, although flat nose burned at the foul smelling humans; it was like smelling sewage. Ew!
They were huddled together talking about the past, the present, and the, oh, so near future events. Yet, the talk of politics was wearing on Lord Sesshoumaru's nerves, as well as the stench. He tried to mentally block out the stink, somewhat successfully, but honestly, he had other more pressing issues that overwhelmed him at the moment, not who was going to run for the next election. 'Damn, where is she?'
This was the event of the year, according to Allure’s magazine. The engagement party had been leaked from one of the invited guests, who just happened to know the owner of the magazine, which was all well and fine to the Lord of the West because no one knew who the handsome angel was engaged to. ‘Ah, so goes the life of prestigious,’ Jaken thought. When he drew closer to the dignitaries, Jaken bowed gracefully to the men. “Lord Sesshoumaru- sama, your fiancée has requested to she needs you.”
Sesshoumaru could feel his annoyance growing, but did not show it. ‘Kagome, this better be good,’ he thought, ‘for if you are defying me because of one of your foolish notions, you will be sorry.’
“Excuse me, Ambassadors; I must go see what the woman of my dreams needs.” Sesshoumaru couldn’t believe he had just said that, and in public no else. Sesshoumaru had the urge to cut his tongue off, but didn’t when he caught some of the stunted looks on the Ambassadors’ faces. He smirked. ‘Maybe fooling them won’t be as hard as I originally thought.’ Sesshoumaru pondered with a wry grin. He held an ever cool demeanor as he turned from his guests and left the party.
Once he hit the first floor and was sure that no one was watching, he raced to his master chamber. Sesshoumaru threw open the bedroom door and was ready to drag Kagome down stairs, willing or not, when he was greeted with the overwhelming smell of stomach acid. It was evident to him at the smell of astringent stomach acid, that Kagome had been sick. ‘So, that is why she didn’t come down yet.’ He heard the trickling of water running in the bathroom and went in there soundlessly.
Kagome had her face covered by the damp washcloth, as she tried to steady her breathing, which was shallow panting. She never heard her fiancée enter the bathroom, as Kagome attempted to gain control of her stomach, therefore; she didn’t see Sesshoumaru enter in the bathroom and stand directly behind her. Nor, did she realize how close he was to her, or the slightly sympathetic look that appeared on his face. Kagome felt a hand go to the back of her neck. Kagome let out a loud surprised gasp. 'He's going to kill me!'
The washcloth fell from her face, revealing herself to her drop dead handsome fiancée in the mirror's reflection. Sesshoumaru, who right at the moment, didn’t look too amused with her, but then again… there was something there written on his face. ‘Sesshoumaru,’ Kagome thought wistfully, ‘why are you so guarded?’
‘Kami, she is breath taking,’ Sesshoumaru’s fingers rubbed in a gentle, small circular motion at the nape of Kagome’s neck. He watched in fascination as it calmed her frayed nerves almost instantly. It was then, that Sesshoumaru noticed Kagome was wearing similar colors he had on tonight. Both of them wore blue and silver, colors of the inuyoukai clan. Sesshoumaru wore a Versachi custom made suit, made of dark midnight blue material combined with a silver shirt and a light, almost iridescent silver tie which matched Kagome’s eyes.
Kagome was adorned with a Vera Wang gown. It was a shimmery, silver strapless a-lengthen dress made out of silk. It had a midnight blue, intricate stitching sewn into a pattern into the bodice and at the hem of the dress. Kagome’s onyx colored hair was pulled up in an elegant twist with big barrel curls neatly pinned on top of her head. She had a royal air about her that seemed to fit the so to be Lady of the West. Kagome really looked like she belonged to him, and he smiled at that arrogant thought.
Kagome turned very gradually to face Sesshoumaru, bringing her left arm up. Her hand, clad with the engagement ring that sparkled bright as a star as she rested her dainty hand on his muscular bicep. Kagome looked into each his eyes.
Sesshoumaru knew that she was making herself sick with anxiety. ‘Humans with there uncalled for fears,’ he admonished. But, somewhere Sesshoumaru felt angered that she was making herself that sick with worry about the situation at hand. ‘That half-breed doesn't deserve her concern,’ he wanted to yell.
“It’s amazing.” Kagome didn’t realize that she was speaking out loud. She felt the butterflies in her stomach disperse into air when Sesshoumaru was near her.
“What is that, my Kagome?”
“How you can calm me so…” Kagome blushed when she so freely admitted that to him. Surely Sesshoumaru would say something demeaning to that, yet she all but forgot about all her worries when he was with her. They would face this together, which was better then alone.
Kagome's answer cut through the remainder of Sesshoumaru building rage. He took her left hand and interlocked his fingers with her’s. “Our guests await us.” Then brought her hand up to his lips and pressed his warm lip to her dainty hand in a surprising display of affection. A beautiful, yet deceiving smirk graced his features at the mere thought of one word. ‘Revenge. Oh, this would be sweet.’
Sango and Miroku felt a little out of place within the elaborate décor around them. Sango was uneasy with what was to come. She knew that Kagome was Sesshoumaru’s fiancée, but it was what she had termed ‘a marriage of convenience,’ Sango didn’t even tell Miroku. Kami, how, she wanted to! This piece of information was a burdened that she wanted to share but knew better.
“Sango sweets.” Miroku asked, as he whispered against her ear. “What seems to be troubling you? It is a fine evening. What could possible have you so down?” Miroku traveled a hand down Sango’s spine and was closing in on his main objective. Sango’s ass.
“If you value your hand, Miroku, you will stop right there.” Sango’s eyelid started to twitch in anger.
Miroku pulled his hand back and drug it through his wild hair. Then he gave her that all to classic playboy laugh. “Sango, I’m wounded that you would think I would do such a thing.”
“Sango! Miroku!” Yelled a loud voice, from the distance just off to the side from them.
They turned very so slightly too looked and saw Inuyasha immerging from the large crowd of people. He was wearing a deep purple Armani suit with a violet colored shirt dawned with a black tie. Inuyasha silver hair was down and swept a little unruly around his broad frame. Overall, he looked like a model, and a sexy one at that.
“Yo, Inuyasha! Where’s the little lady? Did she come?” Miroku shouted back a greeting at his friend.
“Yep, she over there talking to Keade and other friends. We wouldn’t have missed this event for the world. I will bet you five to one that it is Jakotsu.” Inuyasha said with a chuckle. “I can’t wait for my quire, arrogant ass to finally come out of the closet.”
Miroku joined in on Inuyasha laughing, to Sango the both sounded like a raving lunatics. On any other occasion she would have joined in with them on there jollies, but she knew better. ‘Sesshoumaru isn’t gay. Hell! Who, in their right mind, would be if they were going to marry Kags?’ She frowned at her playboy boyfriend and boss.
“Hey, hahahaha!” Inuyasha giggled. “Have you seen, hehehe!” His golden eyes mirrored the roar of laughter he so wanted to let out in the crowd. “Kagome?”
Sango and Miroku shook their heads, ‘no.’
Inuyasha stopped laughing and quickly grew sober. His thought became dark. ‘What if she was attacked again? How would anyone know? She has bodyguards,’ he rationalized. ‘Kagome will be okay.’ Inuyasha pretended like it didn’t matter, but everyone could see through that ploy. “She said she’d be here.” Inuyasha said with annoyance. “So where the hell is she?!”
Sango knew where she was, and oh, she could only imagine the looks on her friend’s faces when they saw that it was Kagome who was Sesshoumaru fiancée, not Jakotsu. ‘Dear kami,’ Sango silently prayed. All hell would break loose.
Sesshoumaru held Kagome’s hand as they walked down the hallway to the stairs. It was only a matter of seconds before the two would appear together. Apprehension was fighting its way back into Kagome’s thought. The silent battle didn’t go unnoticed by Sesshoumaru, and it annoyed him that Inuyasha could plague her thoughts all the time. ‘I’ll change that,’ he mused crossly. Sesshoumaru felt like ripping out Inuyasha heart out, and all because of the hold he held on Kagome.
Sesshoumaru would die before admitting that Kagome had plagued his thoughts, one to many times for him to like to admit. “Kagome, tell me, why is it that you struggle so?” He never looked at her when he spoke, but kept a firm hold on her hand. Sesshoumaru had a plan, one that would alleviate Kagome’s fears, but would also make her furious. What a dilemma. Sesshoumaru could handle Kagome better if she was mad, not vexed. “Are you worried what Inuyasha will say, or do?” He kept his appearance calm as he was building up to the next question, which was guaranteed heart breaker.
