Thirty-Three

Kagome heard knocking on the door and rolled over, she jumped out of bed. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying. "Come in," She called out after pulling her shorts on. She was suprised to see Yomi walking in the room. "Hi."

"Morning, sit." It was a command.

She flopped down on the bed, what did he want now? He stood in front of her and seemed to be judging her.

"I need to tell you something but what I say does not leave this room understand?"

"Sure whatever."

"Listen carefully, Tar will be here shortly and I have to be gone before then." He quickly told her of the risks of using the stone and how the girl planned on doing it alone.

"She plans on dying doesn't she?" Kagome felt the tears start to well. "What can I do?"

"There is a very small chance that if you help, offer you own energy with hers you both might survive. If you are willing to take that chance then you can interfere after she has activated it. She will not let you interfere before hand."

"So, I should pretend like I don't know. Then when she activates it help?"

"Yes, place your hand in hers, that is all. The stone will do the rest, are you willing to do this?"

Kagome didn't need to think about it, "Yes, I won't let her do it alone. Thank you for confiding in me."

"Your most welcome, we can only pray it will be enough since she won't change her mind." He quickly left the room before he was caught.


Kagome sat on the bed for several minutes. Her hurt over Hiei was pushed aside for the moment. If she survived then she would worry about it. But what was a very small chance? If Tar was going to give her life then Kagome would go with her. She wouldn't let her friend be alone.

The door opened and said girl walked in with a huge grin on her face. "Morning sleepy head. Wanna go with me to go get some breakfast?" Tar looked and saw Kagome's red eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Oh, Hiei came by last night."

"I see, in that case I guess I should tell you that I had a visitor also."

"I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry some more." Kagome knew now why the girl would still be with Yusuke even knowing that he didn't love her. She was being with the one she loved while she had the chance. It wasn't fair. 'Isn't that what I'm doing also. I'm taking whatever he will give me.'

"I say we go eat. I'm wasting away here." She pulled Kagome up by the hands. "Come on, Mai is already down there. I swear she has this big shit eating grin on her face. I think she got laid last night. To make it worse she has planted herself on Red's lap. Makes me want to puke, such display of public affection."

"You mean you are jealous." Kagome laughed.

"Hell yes! So I figured I'd come get you and you'd let me sit in your lap that way I don't feel left out."

"Why don't I get to sit on your lap, why do I got to be the man?" Kagome could hear the others talking inside as they approached. "I wanna be the sitter, you be the lapper."

"Fine but you get to hand feed me." They walked into to the room with everyone else. She smiled for everyone but felt like running out the door. Even she had her weak moments. Seeing Yusuke sitting in a chair eating, plainly ignoring her kind of hurt.

Kagome saw what Tar had been talking about, the two were already giving her a toothache. It was disgusting, it should be outlawed to be that in love. Her heart did a total flip seeing Hiei standing next to Mukuro again. He glanced her way looking directly at her, she gave him a weak smile.

Tar sat down in a chair and pulled Kagome in her lap. Kagome almost squeeked being totally taken off guard. She turned to look around and saw why. The girl had tears sliding down her cheeks and she was trying to hide them. The talk continued as Kagome looked everyone over skipping the two couples. Jin and Touya were huddled together talking in whispers. Yomi was facing in their direction, she wouldn't call it staring since he couldn't see. Yusuke on the other hand was staring but at Yomi. Glaring was more like it. Kagome felt like walking over and decking the boy, maybe the boy needed a good kick in the balls.

Tar took a deep breath trying to steady her emotions. She was starting to become sappy like Kagome. She had known last night before it happened that she meant nothing to him so she had no right to get angry now.

Yomi could smell her tears, he wanted to get up and slap the fool in his head. Instead he thought better of it, if Yusuke wouldn't give her the attention she deserved then he would. He got up and walked around the table, Kagome's eyes followed him. She stood up when he got close, he nodded so she moved.

Taree felt Kagome get up and assumed she was going to sit in a chair of her own. She suddenly felt someone grab her hands jerking her onto her feet. A pair of arms went around her crushing her against a hard chest. "Huh?"

Everyone held their breath waiting for the explosion. Kagome was standing right next the two when it started. Yusuke was over the table in seconds pulling Yomi back slamming a fist into his face. Kagome felt someone grab her around the waist moving her across the room. She knew who held her without having to turn around.

Taree wasn't sure what happened one minute Yomi was giving her a bear hug the next Yusuke's back was in her face. The blind man was standing a few feet away grinning at the boy. She had no idea what to do or what was going on? A gasp was heard around as the blind man moved knocking Yusuke across the face sending him into the wall.

"Enough!" Kurama stood up moving Mai aside. "If you two are going to fight at least make sure she is out of harm's way before you end up killing her in the process."

Tar felt herself being moved, she turned around to see Mukuro had moved her placing her next to Hiei and Kagome. The woman glared at Hiei, "You could have grabbed both of them."

"I didn't think they were foolish enough to actually harm the one they are fighting over. I grabbed what was mine."

Kagome felt herself blush and Taree smiled. Hiei had yet to release the girl, holding her against his chest as he watched.

Yusuke attacked as soon as he saw Mukuro grab the girl. He slammed his fist into the man's stomach a few times, he felt an elbow hit him in the back.

Tar felt a hand grab her arm when she tried to rush forward. She didn't want to watch while they fought for no reason. "Let me go."

Kurama spoke up, "You will not interfere, Yomi was warned. He knew what he was doing when he touched you."

"He didn't do anything but hug me."

"You are foolish if you think so." Hiei stated. He tightened his hold on the girl in his arms.

"I don't understand."

"You are not youkai." Kurama said it as if that explained everything, at both girl's confused looks he continued. "When he held you in public, he was staking his claim. As Hiei is doing now."

Kagome blushed, then she remembered how Kouga had grabbed her by the waist pulling her against him then claimed she was his. Wait did he just say Hiei was doing it also?

A loud blast was heard as Yomi fired at Yusuke, hitting him in the chest. The boy went through the wall, soon both men were in the next room fighting. A blast came through the wall, nearly missing Jin. Taree wanted them to stop, she flicked her aura up a notch causing Mukuro to remove her hand. As soon as she was free she ran through the opening created by Yusuke. The others called her name.

She stepped into the room to see Yusuke standing over a fallen Yomi, his finger glowing. She ran up to him and threw her arms around him. "Stop."

Yusuke felt her land against him but his anger had yet to be appeased. "Get off me."

She held on to him as Yomi got to his feet behind her. Yomi spoke to Yusuke ignoring her, "Move her, I will not let you hide behind her."

"Get the fuck off me or we will continue with you between us."

She tightened her hold around his waist, "No, you don't have to fight. Please not over me." Tears streamed down her face, "It doesn't matter if he claimed me, it's you I love."
