The Better Man

Chapter Thirty-Four

"I don't want to go." Rin crossed her arms over her chest, couldn't they have the meeting without her? It wasn't like she was important or vital. Just another ear to listen to what she could be told later. Going would mean seeing Kurama again, that she didn't want to do. The last few days had been terrible for her, especially with that bitch calling. She called to tell Kagome that she forgave her and not to worry about it. That it hadn't caused any damage to her and 'Shuichi's' relationship. Rin didn't care about it, she just hoped that she'd caused damage to the bitch's nose.

"It's mandatory, we will leave as soon as it is over I promise you." Kagome could understand how she felt, going wasn't welcomed. It also meant seeing Kuwabara with Yukina again. What other choice did they have?

"Fine." Not that she could do anything now, they were here. Rin got out the car and followed Kagome up the steps. Kuwabara and Yukina were the first ones they saw, standing around laughing. Their voices could be heard.

"I can't wait till she's born, I'll have someone to spoil."

Yukina turned when she sensed them, "Hello, you two. Everyone else is waiting inside."


Rin was sitting against the tree waiting for Kagome. The meeting had been over for five minutes but Koenma had said he wanted to talk to the miko alone. So she'd come outside to be by herself. She was tired of the glares that Kurama had been sending her way. His little bitch had derserved what she'd got, she wasn't sorry. She'd be glad to hit her again. Jealousy and anger welled inside of her at remembering the kiss. He'd seen to be enjoying it, why else would he do it so long? She was suprised he hadn't yanked the girl out the seat and started fucking her.

The object of her thoughts was now in front of her, in his youkai form. He was glaring down at her, like he had a reason to be mad. She wasn't the one running around. "What do you want?"

"I don't like your tone."

"I don't give a damn what you like. Obviously from your recent choice of company you don't have much for taste." She commented.

"I think that should have been stated the day I marked you." He saw her flinch. "Believe me when I say she is an improvement."

"Get out of my face or you will recieve the same treatment she got."

"Oh yes that reminds me, touch her again and you will be sorry."

"Is that a threat?" She stood up to face him. "You don't scare me. Let me make something clear; I don't give a damn who you fuck but don't flaunt your bitch in my face."

"Fine as long as you know I expect the same. I do not want you making it so obvious that you want to fuck Yusuke." His voice raised getting everyone's attention, they stopped to watch the arguement.

"Better him than you!"

He saw red, "Let me assure you any woman is better than you. No man likes it when he feels like he's fucking a boy. No man in his right mind would want you, myself included."

Her hand came up slapping him hard across the face, leaving a red imprint. Her breath caught when she saw the look in his eyes. His hand came down hard, she almost fell over from the impact. Her lips stung as she stared at the ground, tears rolling down her cheeks.

A curse was heard before the fight began, she looked to see Yusuke punch him across the face. The fox went back to sneer wiping the blood off his mouth.

"You'd fight me over her? Do you want her that bad? Have her then." He eyed the girl staring at him. "Some friendly advice she isn't any good. Just make sure you keep most of her clothes on, that way you can atleast imagine it's someone else."

"You bastard." Yusuke heard the girl's cry of pain and saw red. He went for his friend, aiming to wipe the look of his face.

Rin couldn't take it anymore, without getting Kagome she ran. The tears streamed down her face as she went down the steps. The pain was too much she could barely breath as she ran down the street. He had just told everyone of the humiliation that she had endured in silence. Now everyone knew she was unwanted, nothing but a substitute. She had been right in assuming that he'd found her lacking. All the times he'd taken her he'd imagined she was someone else.

Kuwabara saw Hiei and Kouga trying to break up the fight that was taking place. Kagome and Koenma came out when they heard the commotion. Without telling anyone he went after the girl, trying to catch up with her. He knew she had to be upset, plus she wouldn't know where she was going. He saw her turn the corner, he picked up his speed catching up to her.

He turned the corner to see her streak across the road as a car was coming. He yelled her name as the driver slammed on the brakes. The car slid in slow motion as it spun, the side slamming into the girl. He watched in horror being too slow to stop it from happening. He ran across the road as the car came to a full stop. He cursed as the driver saw that he'd hit the girl and took off.

"Don't be dead, don't be dead." Kuwabara went over to her prone figure. He could make out the slight rise of her chest. She coughed, blood coming out her mouth. "Come on, hang in there for a few minutes." He bent to pick her up, trying not to injure her further.

She moaned at the movement, he tried to hurry without causing her too much pain. He could hear the fight still taking place as he neared the steps. Screaming could be heard, followed by a large blast. "Idiots." He cleared the top with her in his arms, he felt the blood running down his chest from her head wound. Everyone's attention was on the fight, he screamed at the top of his lungs for Yukina. The girl turned at the sound of her name.

Everyone else stopped at Kagome's scream, she ran across the yard. Tears streamed down her face as Kuwabara made his way over to Yukina. He cradled her in his arms, "Car, bastard took off."

He felt two arms trying to take the girl from him. His eyes looked up from her to see two golden ones in pain. He let go and let Youko take her, Yukina told him to keep her still. Kuwabara watched as Youko held her as she was healed.

"Thank you." Kurama thanked him when the girl was done.

"Don't you dare thank me." Kuwabara yelled at him. "Unlike you, I happen to care about her." He saw the man flinch and regretted his words.

"Let's get you two inside and cleaned up." Genkai spoke up breaking the tension.
