The Better Man

Chapter Thirty-Two


It took some time to get settled back in her old room but Kagome was glad to be home once more. The first three days back were spent cleaning out the spare bedroom and fixing it up for Rin. They weren't sure how long she'd be staying but decided it best to give her the room. Since it could take awhile for Sesshoumaru to find Kanna. Plus Kagome didn't want the girl in there since night time was when the tears usually hit her.

It was morning once more and time for her to head to school, all her make up work was dragging her down. Truth be told she didn't feel like doing any of it. She also made sure that Kuwabara would be gone before she showed up. The thought of being around him was too much for her to deal with. The first day he'd smiled at her and it felt like a punch in the chest. Why wouldn't he be happy? Him and Yukina were back together again.

Today only Keiko was waiting on her all smiles. "What are you so happy about?"

"I just heard some wonderful news from Kuwabara. Seems Yukina is pregnant, she's going to have a baby. Isn't it wonderful? What's wrong Kagome?"

"Nothing, I'm not feeling well. I think I'm going to skip class today. I'll see you later." Kagome ran back to her car, burying her head in her hands. The tears came hard for over an hour. When she was done her eyes felt raw and a migraine had set in. Somehow she managed to drive home without wrecking.

Rin saw Kagome run past her then the slam of the bedroom door. So she got up to make her way there, she knocked gently. "Kagome are you okay?"

"Go away."

Rin opened the door anyways and stepped inside. Taking a seat on the bed, "Want to talk about it? Don't tell me nothing is wrong. You cry as much as I do." Rin held the miko as she poured her heart out. She groaned when Jaken suddenly burst into the room.

"Rin, where are you?"

"Master Jaken, please knock before you enter." She scolded him. "Now get out." A shoe was hurled at his head.


One week later Kagome decided to take Rin to see the latest movie. It was a love story, just what they both needed. Maybe seeing someone have a happy ending would do them some good. She pulled into the parking lot and stepped out. Her eyes roamed over Rin, the girl looked good in the light yellow sundress. Kagome had decided to stick with her usual light blue.

They walked into the lobby after buying tickets, time for some refreshments. As soon as she walked in she heard someone calling her name and cringed. "Kagome." Her day was just shot, "Hey, Hojo."

The boy came walking up to her with another man trailing behind him. "Good to see you again, how are you feeling? This is my cousin that's visiting out of town."

Kagome nodded towards the other guy trying to be polite, "This is my friend Rin." She made the introductions brief and painless. Maybe he would leave soon, so she could enjoy the rest of her day out.

"Are you two alone? If so mind if we sit next to you?"

'Someone kill me now.' She groaned not sure how to get out of the situation. A loud laugh caused her to turn around. 'My day can't get any worse can it.' The large group was now behind her.

"Hey you guys." Keiko spotted them forcing Kagome and Rin to turn around.

Kagome felt Rin tense up and couldn't blame her, standing next to Kurama was Eri all smiles. Not to mention Yukina was with Kuwabara.

"Hey Kagome, I haven't seen you in a while." Eri was latched onto the red head's arm. "I was suprised to find out that you were no longer dating Kuwabara but then again." Her eyes roamed over Hojo standing behind her.

"Everyone is replacable." Kurama's voice was low but clear. His eyes focused on Rin, stating who he meant.

"Why don't you two come sit with us?" Keiko invited them.

Kagome felt like slapping that smile off his face. She had taken offense to his remark as well, she couldn't imagine how Rin felt. Well two could play at that game, "Actually we can't. We already have plans. Come on Hojo, the movie will be starting soon lets get some good seats."

The boy gladly accepted her arm, Rin was suprised when the other guy took her arm smiling down at her. Who the hell was he? She didn't say anything she just followed Kagome. Were they really going to sit next to these two?

Hojo steered them to a seat in the back placing the two girls between them. Kagome suddenly regretted her anger, now she was stuck with Hojo for two hours. She sighed in defeat when the other group sat in front of them a few rows down. Great now she would have to see them two together, maybe claiming a sudden illness would work.

Kagome heard Hojo's cousin trying to strike a conversation up with Rin and the girl's. "Please don't talk to me." A laugh almost came forth at the guy's shocked expression.

Rin tried to ignore the couple not far from her, couldn't mistake the red hair in the darkness. The movie began to play, she was thankful the guy beside her had shut up.

Kurama tried to block out the girl's endless chatter, ear plugs would have been nice. He couldn't believe Keiko had convinced him to bring the girl. In a way he was glad that she'd come. It had hurt to know that Rin was out on a date. He'd thought of nothing but her all week, wanting to go speak to her. She had made it clear that she didn't want him. For two weeks he'd been terrified that she'd been captured, not knowing how to find her. While she had been happy with Sesshoumaru not caring about the pain she was causing him. He wouldn't force her to stay with him if she wanted to stay with the other man. Even if what he'd said was a lie.

He knew he couldn't replace her, he wouldn't try. It was her he wanted, only her. He could sense her behind him with the other male. The urge to go tear the man's hand off was eating away at him. Teach him not to touch what belonged to another.

He looked over towards his annoying date when her hand touched his chin. His eyes widened when he saw her approaching his face. He thought to push her away but decided to let her do it knowing Rin was probably watching. If not she'd have to see it eventually. She closed the distance between them bringing her mouth to his. He almost jerked back at the contact but willed himself not to. Eri leaned up coming out of her chair as she slid her tongue into his mouth. His hand went to her arm holding her still, he didn't want her in his lap. He tried kissing her back, his stomach turned as she invaded his mouth. He let her do it for over five minutes before the urge to vomit became too strong. He didn't turn around to make sure the other girl had seen. His hand came up to wipe the slober off his mouth.

Kagome heard Rin's startled gasp and looked up from her shoes. Kurama was in a lip lock with Eri going to town on her mouth. She turned to Rin, tears were coming down the girl's face. Her arm came up to wrap around her giving her comfort. "It's only a kiss Rin."

"Is it? He's never kissed me." Her head snapped up and watched as he didn't pull away but continued to kiss the other girl. Not being able to take anymore she got up and shoved the guy out her way. She ran out the theatre.

Kagome couldn't believe it, he'd never kissed her. But they had slept together several times from what Rin told her. What kind of shit was that? Then he'd treated her no better than a paid whore when he'd slept with her. Anger filled her to the point she couldn't take it, "Can I have your drink Hojo?"

"Sure Kagome." He handed it to her believing she wanted a sip.

She got up and made her way down the aisle. The seats behind the other group were empty so it made her path clear. The top came off easily, the contents went over the red head cooling him down. Eri gasped in suprise as some of the liquid fell on her. "You asshole." She screamed loud enough for everyone to hear.

Rin was waiting at the car for her, she smiled at her as they climbed in. "Lets go home."
