CHAPTER 17, PART 3 - THE SUMMONS
~*~ Ooh, the angst. ^_^ I don't know why I'm compelled to write the way I do, but the story's done a complete turn-around on me, so there you go *sigh*. I hope you guys aren't too depressed. Anyway, on to the thanx!
To ninijun: Hey, you reviewed again! *hug* Thanx so much for that. I know, I like what I've done with Kagome's character too, so far. ^_^ She has some spine, and won't take things just lying down. I suppose that's what I thought was missing from her in the cannon, that's why I incorporated it here. ^_^ As to your wish... well, I'll see what I can do okay? *wink* Thanx for reading & reviewing! Love ya lots! ^_^
AND TO YOU READING THIS: THANX FOR HITTING ME UP TO ALMOST 11,000 VIEWS!!! ^_^
Wow, just a bit more and I'll be getting 11,000 views! *excited much* Thanx to everyone who's continuing to read my story. I hope I haven't disappointed you guys so far. The story's twists are somewhat 'angsty' now, so you've been warned. If anyone needs kleenexes, I'll be happy to hand it to you. ^_^ Happy reading and enjoy! Jaa ne! ~*~

Chapter Seventeen, Part III - The Summons
Inuyasha wanted to call her back, but he didn't. What else was there to say, really? He deserved the cold treatment she was giving him. Even if she tortured him to death, he would still deserve it for what he said. The last thing he wanted to do was to hurt Kagome, but that was exactly what he'd done.
He had no choice.
How he wanted to explain. How he wanted to tell her that he now had feelings for her. How he would fight for what they had, and never let her go.
Still, he pressed his lips hard to his knuckles and did just that.
His hands were tied.
================================================
Kagome spent the rest of the afternoon and the evening closeted in her room. Her husband didn't even try and see how she's doing. But then he already made his choice.
She was done with weeping. She had done that the moment she stepped into her room earlier. The tears held in check flowed freely then, until she feared she'd go blind. The ache in her heart only seemed to intensify even more with every tear she shed, instead of unburdening it.
Now her eyes were swollen red, puffy and hurting each time she blinked. The price she had to pay for crying so much. She still thought it hadn't been worth it.
She didn't eat much of the dinner that was sent up to her room; she picked at it aimlessly instead. There was still so much left when Emily came back for it she probably thought Kagome never touched it.
Now she stood brooding in front of her windows. A broken heart was never easily mended, she knew. No matter how much she wanted her husband not to matter, he did. Too much even. What she felt for him could not be gone and forgotten easily.
Kagome was at a loss on what to do. She had never been in-love before Inuyasha. In fact, she never even thought she could ever love him. He was the exact opposite of what the man of her dreams was. She was supposed to fall in-love with the perfect gentleman[gentle, kind and considerate. He would always tell her how much he loved her, and would never think of quarrelling with her. He would always respect her wishes, and put her first and foremost above anything else.
The man she married wasn't her dream man. He was arrogant, completely unbending, mostly clueless, insensitive and wanted everything to go his way. Domineering, to be exact.
But he was patient with her. He may grumble a lot whenever she asked something of him, but he always gave her what she wanted. And he did not say it in so many words; in fact, he never told her how he felt about her. But it was there in his touch[ the way he unconsciously sought the feel of her everytime. Whether it was holding her hand while they walked or putting an arm around her shoulders when they read together. It always seemed to her that he needed reassurance of her presence by his side.
And the way he made love to her... that made all the difference in her world. When she was in his arms, she felt so... loved. That was what she felt. And she was going to hold on to it.
She would endure, she told herself. She will not give up on what she found with him. She will fight for her marriage as fiercely she would fight for her life.
And if he still chose to be with 'her', then so be it. That would be her lot in life. But until then, she would take as much as she could. She will have memories that will have to last her for a lifetime.
Because she knew without a doubt: she would never love another man for as long as she'll live.
