Chapter 30 – An Offer of Protection

**No Lemon, but a little sexy stuff.

“What the hell is wrong with Kagome!?” Inuyasha shouted during his leap across their little room in the hut.

Following a steel coated glare from Sesshomaru, he warned between grated teeth, “Shut up, Inuyasha, before you wake her! She is simply sleeping from overexertion.” After the hanyou backed down, Sesshomaru moved to place his sleeping mate down on her mat. He noticed that Kikyo was just settling back to sleep, after giving Inuyasha a frustrated look. His brother was still looking at Kagome, almost as if he wanted to press the issue further, but after a deadly warning look from himself, the boy gave it up and settled next to Kikyo for the night.

Sesshomaru lay down next to his mate and carefully pulled her up to lay in the crook of his arm. He enjoyed the feel of her warmth against him and her calming scent soothed him into slumber.

The following morning....

“Oh Kami... I feel like I’ve been ran over by a wagon,” Kagome moaned before turning over to flash a knowing smile at her demon lover. “And you, sir, are responsible.”

Sesshomaru had been lying beside her, while listening to her soft breathing. He could tell she was close to waking, and was pleased when she rolled into him in an attempt to bury herself further into his side. Her comment was not surprising at all, since he did give her quite a workout last evening. He was a little un-nerved that he was prone to lose himself to his animal side so easily when making love to his little miko. He normally prided himself on his ability to subdue the beast within him, and call upon it at will, but for some reason beyond his understanding, he continued to lose the battle when mating with Kagome.

He could feel his instincts take over during their coupling. He could feel the rise of his savage nature as it boiled through his blood. Her arousal called forth the fiend, making his stone wall of control crumble beneath him. It was not unpleasant, in the least. Oh, on the contrary, it was amazing. Every nerve in his body could feel her soft skin. Her natural scent washed over him ten fold, and the sound of her moans tingled as they echoed into his sensitive ears. ‘Damn,’ he cursed as he reached down to push against his swollen manhood. ‘Just thinking about it has made me hard for her.’

Kagome noticed his obvious erection, and glanced back up to him with a look of shock and slight fear. She wasn’t sure she could handle another session like the one last night so soon. A little time to work out the soreness was in order.

Sesshomaru smirked at the look on her face. He could smell her reaction to his arousal. Too soon. She couldn’t handle it after last night. That thought made his ego swell a little more. “You do realize, that this is all your fault, my dear?”

Kagome giggled as she blushed. “Should I apologize, my love?”

In the time it took for her to smile, he had moved over her to crush her body beneath his as he pushed his hardened member into her pelvis with a hearty grunt. “No apology necessary, my sweet.”

His voice was low and sensual as he leaned down to nuzzle her neck. Kagome shivered with delight.

“I will show you mercy now, but later...” Sesshomaru whispered huskily against her ear before licking the rim slowly with his tongue. Her little moan brought a smile to his lips.

“Good God! Can you two take that shit somewhere else? Watching my brother get it on is not the best sight to wake up to, ya know!” Inuyasha complained loudly as he sat up to rub his hand over his eyes.

Kikyo giggled beside him, and sat up to pat his thigh gently. “Come now Inuyasha, you must remember that they are a newly mated couple.”

Kagome blushed furiously just before Sesshomaru nipped one last time at her neck before rolling off to her side.

“Inuyasha, you are certainly adept at destroying the mood.” Sesshomaru said dryly as he pulled Kagome up to sit beside him.

Inuyasha huffed. “It’s a good thing too! Seeing your naked ass could have damaged me for life!”

Kagome and Kikyo fell into a fit of giggles as Sesshomaru growled at his half-brother. They all rose to begin their day, and Kagome gathered her things for a quick bath. Kikyo decided to go along as well.

Sesshomaru stopped Kagome before she left for her bath. “I fear I must take leave of you for a short time, Kagome. I must hunt this morning. I would feel better if you would wait here until I return.”

Inuyasha scoffed at Sesshomaru. “Look, you act like there ain’t nobody around here to look out for Kagome except you. Don’t be stupid. Go hunt and I’ll protect her while you’re gone.”

Everyone turned to Inuyasha in surprise, not expecting a gentlemanly offer from the brash hanyou. Kikyo smiled at Inuyasha. “That’s very sweet of you, my love.”

Sesshomaru was silent for a short time, as he digested this proposal of protection from his half-brother. On one hand, he was slightly impressed that Inuyasha would offer to protect Kagome. The other hand was thinking of what an idiot Inuyasha was, and that he would probably bring the trouble to her. ‘Should I trust him to protect the mate of this Sesshomaru?’

Kagome could see that Sesshomaru was torn between accepting this offer, and refusing to trust Inuyasha. She thought to help sway his decision, so she looked back to Inuyasha and smiled warmly. “Inuyasha, that was very nice of you to offer your protection to me.”

Sesshomaru could feel his strength ebbing, as his body warned of its need for nourishment, and knew he should be on his way. It would take some time to leave the city and to find a place suitable for hunting. Kagome trusted Inuyasha, but she was human, and prone to her own miko kindness, so she wasn’t the best judge in this situation. As much as he hated to admit it, Inuyasha was strong, and besides himself, the only one he would trust to keep his mate safe.

Sesshomaru stepped up to Inuyasha. “This Sesshomaru accepts your offer to protect Kagome in my absence, and know that I will do the same for your woman in your stead.”

Kagome and Kikyo smiled at each other. It looked like the brother’s were coming to a slight truce, because of them. Sometime’s a common anomaly could bring the most unlikely together. “Come on Kikyo, let’s get cleaned up so we can get a start on the day,” Kagome said before she tiptoed to peck her mate on the cheek. “Have a nice hunt, Sesshomaru. Don’t worry about me. I’ll see you later.” She watched as her handsome taiyoukai left the hut.

Just before she and Kikyo walked out, they were met by Ani standing at their door carrying a tray of fruits and various delectable foods for breaking the morning fast. “Ohayou, everyone,” Ani said with a big smile while handing the tray to Kikyo. “I was sent to tell you that as soon as you are ready, morning worship will be held at the shrine. Dasaiin-sama requests that all visiting miko’s assist in the blessings of the shrine visitor’s until lunch time. After which, you will all report to the courtyard near the dojo, where you may practice and spar.”

Kikyo and Kagome bowed their thanks to the young miko apprentice. “Arigato, Ani.” Kikyo replied.

Ani said, “You are very welcome. I will be bringing your lunch here, as well, so I will see you then. Unless of course, you need me before. You can find me in the shrine.” She bowed before turning to walk away.

Kagome said, “She’s so sweet, don’t you think so Kikyo?”

“Yes she is. Now, I think we should eat before we go bathe.” Kikyo stated as she placed her things down before taking a seat.

Kagome laughed. “Are you starving, Kikyo?”

Kikyo looked up from her dish, and rolled her eyes with exasperation before pointing to Inuyasha who was gobbling his meal with gusto. “No, but if we do not eat now, there will be nothing left by the time we return.”

Kagome burst into a fit of giggles, before Inuyasha said “Hey! I resent that!”
