Chapter Twenty-Eight


Kagome felt a little better as she walked, Tar was suceeding on getting her mind off Hiei. The girl was really looking for something to break it seemed. Seemed word was spreading fast about them. The youkai that passed them took a wide breach or went in the opposite direction.

They entered another area, it looked like a training hall of some sort. There had to be at least twenty male youkai hanging around doing odd things. Kagome scanned the area and gasped. Her eyes widened in suprise, she had to be seeing things. It couldn't be him, not here.

The youkai in question turned when he felt someone looking at him. His eyes widened and he smiled. "I must be dreaming."

Tar watched the play between the two and stared at her friend. She seemed to recognize the youkai but from where? He was very cute, more than cute he was hot. "Kagome you know him?"

"Yeah," She whispered. She couldn't move, seeing someone from her past left her unable to move. She didn't have to he crossed the distance between them. His arms went around her pulling her into his embrace. Kagome started crying as he held her, "It's really you isn't it?"

"Yes, I didn't think I'd ever see you again." He smiled, "I've never forgotten about you. I hoped that if I kept believing one day I'd see you again."

She leaned back to peer into his face, tears streaming down her face. He looked different but she would never forget his face. She heard talking behind her and turned around. The five they'd left were behind them once more. Kagome blushed at being caught in his arms but didn't let go.

Kurama lifted his brow, this could proof to be interesting. He could feel Hiei's anger at the display, he took a step back.

Tar felt like laughing at seeing the little man's scowl. Served him right let the little fucker get jealous. "Kagome, introduce me to your cute friend." She was sure she heard Hiei growling.

"Oh sorry, Tar I would like you to meet Shippo. Shippo this is my friend Taree." She introduced the two.

Shippo glanced at the girl and smiled. "Nice to meet you. I need to get back. Kagome we will talk later."

"You better come see me, I have a lot of things I wanna ask you."

"I know." He nodded before he released her, he leaned down and whispered in her ear. "He's still alive."

Kagome felt her knees give away, she fell to the floor. Not caring that she had an audience she let the tears fall. "Where is he? Please tell me."

"Later, when we have time to talk." He bent down to look in her face.

"No, tell me now. Where is he?"

"With Ayame."

Kagome was too stunned to speak, how the hell had that happened? She felt Tar helping her off the floor, she let herself be dragged away.


Kagome waited in her room, she felt like pulling her hair out. Finally after three hours of waiting the door opened and Shippo came in. "Bout time, now give me my answers."

"Good to see you too." He sat down on the bed beside her. He grabbed her smaller hands, he remembered when he was the one with the small hands. "I'll just give it to you Kagome. After you disappeared, he tried going through the well to you. We all stayed at the village after that. Miroku and Sango married and had children. Inuyasha hung around the well trying to go through. Eventually, he gave up. You and Kikyo were both gone, so he was alone. Kouga and Ayame eventually became mates two years later. Kouga and Inuyasha eventually became close friends. We were all together after that. One day Kouga was killed protecting the wolf den leaving Ayame alone with small pups. Inuyasha decided to stay with her after that to protect her and Kouga's children. Time passed and eventually they became mates. He's still with her, I'm sorry Kagome. I know he still loves you but he went on with his life. As did I."

"I understand, I guess I should be happy for him. After coming back home I told myself that no matter what happened I wanted him to be happy in the end. That's still true. Thanks for telling me." Kagome hugged him. "It's good to see you again. You got big."

"Thanks a couple centuries will do that to a person." He held her in his arms. "You've changed also. I can see you don't need rescueing anymore."

"Got that right. Then I have my new friends to thank for that. They have been great, especially Taree." She pulled back looking him in the eyes. "Thanks Shippo. Do you mind if I have some time alone?"

"Sure go ahead. I'll see you later okay."

Kagome layed down on the bed after he left. Her mind going a mile a minute. Inuyasha was still alive and well. But he had a mate, it was time she finally let go of him. Instead of crying she was left feeling empty, she didn't know what to feel. She still loved him but then there was Hiei. What did she really feel for him? She barely knew him but her heart ached for him. She wanted to get to know him better, to get close to him. Not like it would ever happen but it was what she wanted. Her and Taree had been standing there long enough for her to see him look up at the other woman.

His face and eyes had spoken volumes, he respected her and cared a great deal. All Kagome saw in his eyes when he looked at her was indifference. Except when they were in bed together, then it was lust. He could lust after anyone, it was what happened out of the bedroom that counted. His eyes had found hers earlier in that oval room. They had held something then, displeasure and annoyance. Then the indifference had set in leaving her shaken. Tears streamed down her face the more she thought about it.

The door slid open and Taree came storming in. She was beyond pissed and it showed. She'd been walking to try and find Mai when she'd stopped to hear Yusuke and Kurama talking in a room, probably Yusuke's.

"What are you doing to do Yusuke?"

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about Taree and Keiko." Kurama informed him.

"Not a damn thing, after this is done I'm going back to Keiko."

"Are you telling me that Taree means nothing to you. Why did you sleep with her Yusuke?"

"I only did what you said to do. Your advice was to try other options, so I did dammit. You suggested sleeping with other people so I did." Yusuke was still pissed about her flirting with the fox youkai. "And that's exactly what I'm telling you. I don't give a damn about her. I fucked her, was more than disappointed. As soon as this is over I never want to see her again."

Taree turned around and walked back down the hall. She felt like crying, the tears were welling up. The only reason he had slept with her was because Kurama suggested he do so. She sat down on Kagome's bed and yelled at the top of her lungs.

Kagome burst out laughing at her. "I'm not sure I want to ask but I will."

"The only reason Yusuke slept with me is because Kurama suggested he try other people. Yes, I'm sure before you ask. I heard the two talking. Not only that, he said I sucked in bed and that after this he never wants to see me again." A single tear slid down her face. "You don't look too happy either."

"Sorry, will you promise to grow old with me?"

Tar smiled at her, "You bet. Now, lets go see what damage we can cause."
