The Truth

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Keiko woke up to someone knocking on her front door. She went and opened it. Yusuke was standing there looking at her. It was friday and it had been a few days since they'd broken up. She knew he'd probably stop by. "Come in Yusuke."

"Where's your parents?"

"They decided not to let our tickets go to waste and went away for the weekend." She smiled at him. "Want to sit down?"

He planted himself on the sofa. He'd come to tell her the truth, she deserved it. It had taken a few days for him to get up the nerve to do it though. He took a deep breath when she sat across from him. "The other day when I found you, I was coming to talk to you. There was something I wanted to tell you."

"What?"

"The reason for a lot of things lately is because I'm in love with someone else." He waited for her to blow up at him. When she said nothing he raised his face to look at her.

"I know." She almost smiled when his jaw dropped. "I don't know who it is but I figured it out. I have loved you for years, since we were kids. It's ok. It will take some getting use to but we will be fine. I'll always be your best friend Yusuke. Thanks for telling me the truth. So does she know how you feel?"

"No."

"Have you even bothered to ask her out yet?" Keiko asked. She wanted to meet the girl to make sure she was right for him.

"No."

"If you date her make sure to watch your temper. And I want to meet her." Keiko jumped back when he stood up yelling.

"Dammit Keiko, you already know her. It's Sango!"

Her eyes got real big and her mind put everything together. He had been staring at Sango at the carnival. Then the girl had risked her own life to save her. She'd said she had her reasons. She remembered seeing the hurt in the girl's eyes. That meant she was pregnant for Yusuke. They had slept together sometime while they'd been off together. The girl had risked her life for not only Keiko but Yusuke. And she'd said nothing. Most girls would have thrown the fact of them sleeping together in Keiko's face just to break them up. Yet the girl had said nothing enduring it in silence. The other day she had to been hurt to see them together but had tried to be friendly. Yusuke's words echoed in Keiko's mind. "You jerk!" She brought her hand down across his face. It knocked his head back but she wasn't done. She hit him again. "You insensitive bastard." He let her hit him.

She stopped to stand back and look at him. "You could have just told me how you felt. I would have accepted it. Instead you were actually going to marry me. You were going to live a lie in order to keep from hurting me and save face. Don't you think I would have been hurt worse knowing that you were not with the person you wanted to be with and all because you felt obligated to stay with me. I can't even begin to imagine what Sango is going through. Thats why she put herself in danger, she saved me for you. She should of brought that large weapon of hers down on your thick skull. How could you say those thing to her the other day? Especially knowing she was pregnant."

"I didn't know she was pregnant till you told me." He stated.

"That doesn't matter you ass. You were intimate with her, you slept with her. I'm willing to bet you were her first." At his guilty expression she continued. "I should beat you senseless. How could you do that to her? That girl's pain is all your fault."

"So you don't blame her?" The concern for the girl echoed in his eyes.

She fell to her knees in front of him. Her anger shattered at the emotions reflecting in his eyes. "You really love her don't you." It didn't come out as a question. She held him as he let the tears fall. "Yusuke, go talk to her."

"I don't deserve her."

Kagome was standing in front of the mirror. Sango was sitting on the bed looking through a baby magazine that gramps had brought her. Kagome was debating putting her hair up or leave it down. She pulled it up and looked at herself. "Uh, it doesn't look good either way."

"Wrong you look fine either way and you know it. Put it up, it goes better with the dress." She had one a red spaghetti strap dress. The back had straps showing off a good portion of her skin. The red flats had come with it.

"You don't think its too much?"

"No, I think you look great. Kurama will be falling all over himself. Along with every other guy in the place." Sango sighed and looked back down at the pages. She was looking at a crib. It looked confusing to her but Grandpa had told her to pick which one she wanted. The babe would need a place to sleep he said. A white one in particular caught her eye. "Would you please stop worrying. You are getting on my nerves. The poor guy already has it for you bad and you are worrying for nothing. Accept it, give him some and be happy for a change."

"Sango!"

"What? Not like you haven't thought about it." She shrugged her shoulders. "Might as well be honest with yourself. Besides if its with someone you love its rather nice."

"Thanks. I'll try to remember that." Kagome heard the doorbell ring and jumped. "I still need to put my hair up."

Sango rose from the bed. "I'll go tell him, just hurry." She was wearing a set of pajamas, cotton with teddy bear print. It was childish but rather comfortable.

She hit the bottom stair in time to hear Souta say, "Who the hell are you?" Really the boy needed some better manners.

A scream split the air as the boy was knocked aside. Mrs. Higurashi ran out the kitchen to see what was wrong with her child. Stepping into the house was a blue man, he had pointy ears and spikes on top his head. Long claws flexed as he walked into the house. "Get out."

Kagome heard the screams and rushed downstairs. Sango already picked up a lamp throwing it at the demon. It crashed across his chest.

"There you are taijiya, you will die for destroying my master." Sango ran as he rushed her. She didn't have her weapons on her, she was defenseless. Attacking him head on could cause her baby to be harmed so she tried to keep her distance. Mrs. Higurashi ran to help the girl. She brought the wooden spoon over the demon's head causing it to crack in half. He spun around to kill the woman. Kagome screamed when she saw her mother in danger.

Mrs. Higurashi's eyes got wide as his claws came striking down towards her. She felt herself being roughly pushed aside to land on her side. She looked up to see the red head from the wedding get struck across the chest. He was pushed back from the blow. Kurama brought his whip out bringing it down tearing him in two. It lasted only seconds but seemed like an eternity to both girls.

Sango ran to check on Souta. He was laying on the floor, he was getting up. The demon had merely pushed him aside. After seeing that he was okay she went to go see about their mother. As Sango helped her up Kagome's whispered caused them to turn around.

"Kurama," She couldn't believe it. He'd just took the blow meant for her mother. He'd let himself get harmed to protect a woman he didn't know, simply because it was her mother. She ran across the living room and hugged him. Her head was buried in his chest. "Thank you."

"Hmph, is everyone okay?" He turned to Sango. He was mostly concerned about her. Kagome looked up to see the concern for her friend in his eyes.

Gramps came into the living room and screamed. "What the hell happened here? Who's going to clean up this mess?"
