Chapter 3:

Her hand shook with some unnamed feeling, the tremor causing her to tug the jacket around her shoulders even closer to her silk-clad form.

She hadn’t just imagined the glow in the distance, right? Or the way it seemed to weave through the trees, much like the tell-tale soul catchers that followed Kik-

No. Kagome shook her head.

Her and Inu Yasha been distant, sure, but not enough to cause him to be seeking the dead priestess’ cold embrace, right…?

With her stomach churning, Kagome ventured further into the woods; the tightening in her gut clenched harder, almost as if warning her of the danger that lay ahead. And as her soft foot falls brought her deeper, she began to hear less and less of the nighttime noise of crickets and more of something obtuse- a disturbance. And with less distance between her and the noises only yards ahead, Kagome began to distinguish what she could only describe as the slap of flesh against flesh, paired with soft mewling and grunts.

She knew what fate had placed only just ahead and yet, as if tugged by an invisible rope attached to her clenching stomach, Kagome crested over a bit of shrubbery, only to be gazing down at the erotic scene splayed in front of her. Instantly, cerulean eyes widened, the first hint of salt rimming their lashes.

There, Inu Yasha lay entwined with his dead lover, their naked flesh churning in pivoted motions. The hanyou’s sun-kissed skin radiated in the moonlight; silver hair spilling across well defined shoulders and onto the bobbing chest of the woman below him. She watched as the hanyou’s hips rotated, his flesh pumping incessantly into the corpse, the woman’s spindly arms entwining across his back in a languid, yet possessive posture.

It was kind of sickening really and Kagome could only step backwards, a gentle gasp working its way up her throat, only to deaden away into a noiseless parting of her lips.

How…How!? Kagome began to blink rapidly, her heart pounding deep in her chest.

And maybe it was that last thought that caused the hanyou to raise his head, nose poised into the air to take a deep breath. He could smell his darling Kikyo below him – clay and decay, combined into a rather dirty, earthy scent. But on the traveling breeze, he could make out something else… Something sweet

His ears instantly sprang up and his head swiveled toward Kagome’s direction.

Blue eyes met gold and Kagome felt her world shatter.

Whatever grasp that had had a hold of her stomach, had rooted itself and broken into fragmented shards. But while she had predicted the tears and the hurt, she hadn’t expected the heady feeling that followed. It swam across her body, the invisible rope rerouting itself in a different direction.

“Kagome! Wait!”

Inu Yasha  was now pulling his rapidly flaccid shaft from the priestess beneath him,  his naked body making to move after the girl who watched so intently, yet had begun the motions of turning away.

Inu Yasha had only made it so far before a cold hand reached out and gripped his wrist. With woeful eyes, the hanyou turned his gaze down at the naked woman on the ground.

Kikyo could only smile.

  Wordlessly, she had begun running.

The strength and stamina had been tapped from some unknown resource, the sickness in her gut ebbing away the further she got from the scene left in distance.

Stupid, stupid, STUPID! How could he?! Her brow furrowed in anger and unshed tears. It’s not like she has anything I don’t! I mean… I didn’t think he hated me that much… Am I really that repulsive…?

Her unanswered questions lingered, the hurt fresh in her mind.

What should I do now? I can’t go back… He’s going to try to look for me afterwards, right? Maybe Sango can let me stay for the night. Or even Kaede. The village can’t be that far.

“Wait, where am I going?”

Kagome tried willing herself to stop, but her long legs kept their rhythm, sprinting off into the dark, pulled by a solitary thread to her heart. She could feel the silk of her nightgown begin to ride up, legs and buttocks now exposed to the chilled night air.

With a final dash, Kagome rounded the last trail of trees and she picked up the outline of the village just ahead of her. It looked like she was being led back to her hut. Why for, though? Maybe to hide in solace, knowing that the hanyou would have more than enough embarrassment that to show up knocking in the middle of the night.

He had watched her dash into the night, her small fingers fumbling with the door to her home, before quickly rushing inside.

Sesshoumaru wasn’t quite sure why he was there, watching this pathetic excuse of a nigen. She was too frail, too skittish. And yet, he was there in the trees, golden eyes looking toward the same window his brother had visited for many a night.

The tension from dreams had called out to him as he had launched from his balcony only an hour earlier. With unspoken words, the lord had worked his way closer and closer to the small village before halting in his tracks at the sound of an oncoming presence.

To say that he had been surprised was an understatement. The gravity of the aura that had traveled with her was magnificent – its large, pink sculpted fluctuations in the night air had sung out to him, beckoning that he had followed its trail. But when the petite miko had rounded the corner, his eyes had flared with a dangerous hue of red.

Mine.

Sesshoumaru could only shake his head, his thoughts traveling back toward the present and the hut that now was lit up inside.

His beast had spoken that night – to what, he was unsure. Just like he was unsure of why he had travelled so far to seek the lame excuse of a female.

And yet, his mind wandered off yet again. What had she been running from? Where was his pathetic excuse of a brother not there to watch her? His eyes began to seep with red once more, before being shaken away for a second time that night. This has to stop.

Growling at his audaciousness for wasting time and efforts, the Taiyoukai lord turned and headed back toward the western lands with a crease in his brow. Something had to be done about these strange coincidences. No longer could he have these dreams… these late night excursions.
