Kagome the Traitor
More violence here. You have been warned
The full moon glared down lighting the alleyway, the remains of several demons lay scattered around her. She felt pride for how well her squad had done, especially since they were under inspection from Cornell Hibiki. The squad was searching for any hiding demons while the Cornell complemented her. "You've done a great job shaping these troops lieutenant" said the old man gruffly, "I would be looking forward to another promotion if I were you, I think the general is going to be very pl-"
"I've found one!" came an exited shout, cutting off the Cornell's words. The shout had come from the youngest member of the squad as he smashed the panel off a abandoned truck. Something small jumped out of the space behind the panel and started to run for the exit of the alley. The young solider scrambled for his rifle and shot the Demon before it reached the street. The small dark figure fell to the ground with a squeak of terror. "I'm sorry Lieutenant!" said the young man as he realized the demon hadn't evaporated, "I must have not put enough charge into the bullet!"
"That's OK private" said Kagome smiling reassuringly at the man, "It's probably stronger than it looks, I'm sure you didn't make a mistake"
The young man's face filled with gratitude as he realized his squad leader was covering for him in front of the Cornell. How lucky he was to be in Lieutenant Higuarshi's squad!
"You can finish it off." said Kagome waving a hand at the dark mass on the ground.
"Actually could you do that lieutenant?" came the gruff voice of the Cornell, "as part of your assessment."
"Yes Sir!" said Kagome saluting the officer.
She walked towards the dark shape on the ground, drawing her pistol.
What she saw made her freeze. She had been expecting a spider demon or something similar, but what she saw was a small child, face down in a pool of it's own blood with a bullet wound on it's shoulder. Kagome was at a loss. She had been taught that all demon were scum and a danger to society, yet here lay an obviously harmless boy who had done nothing but hide in fear from men she had trained. Kagome inspected his wounds and decided that he probably would survive, given help. ‘Damn it!’ She thought ‘I should be killing it, not working out whether or not I can save him, I mean it...’
"Hurry up Lieutenant! We don't have all day!" barked the Cornell. Nodding Kagome raised her handgun to point at the demon child, but as she looked down the sights at the pathetic figure coughing up it's own blood, she knew she could never squeeze the trigger.
"I'm sorry but there is no need to kill this innocent being" said Kagome hardly believing she was disobeying a direct order from a higher ranking officer.
She looked around at the shocked faces of her squad.
"I see." said the cornell narrowing his eyes, "you will reconsider that or I will be forced to take action." Kagome had made her choice, she needed to show it through actions. Without a second thought Kagome raised her gun and shot the old man in the leg. She grabbed the young fox demon from the floor and sprinted out the alleyway. If all went well the squad would be too occupied with the Cornell's injures to try and stop her.
Clutching the blood stained child to her chest she ran into the night hearing shouts of “leave me! Catch the traitor!”
"Kagome wake up!"
'Damn it', she had fallen asleep in the back of the taxi.
She looked down at Shippou and wondered if she would still be carrying out the injustice of the military if he had not turned up.
After the rescue Kagome had slowly gained the trust of the young fox and they had become good friends. As it turned out, the rest of the demon's family had been killed by the military and he had simply wandered into the wrong alley that night while scavenging for food.
Since her desertion Kagome had learned from Shippou that many demons were good, but the harmless demon's tended to hide from the human world. This was why she had met so many evil demons-they were the ones who attracted the attention of the military. So due to luck most of the victims of the military were in fact evil demons, but there were good demons too. ....
'Here you are lady' said the cab driver as he pulled up outside a house. Kagome paid the man and got out of the taxi with Shippou.
They waited for the taxi to round the street The real safe house was a couple of blocks away, which meant a short walk. Today things weren't going to go smoothly, however, as Kagome only took three steps before stopping in horror. A myriad of auras were bombarding her, both demonic and spiritual. If she listened carefully she could hear gunshots in the distance too. Shippou was looking up at her with a worried expression. They had felt battles occurring in the past, but never so large or so many. As far as Kagome could tell there were several military squads fighting a small army of demons spread out in several locations. The problem was if they tried to run it would look suspicious to any military watching them. Their best bet was to pretend to be normal citizens with no powers, and hope not to get caught up in the fighting. After conveying this plan to Shippou, the pair set off in the direction of the safe house, trying not to walk too quickly. TBC... Some reviews would be great thanks
