The Devil And His Reluctant Shadows

Break down: [ ] text in brackets are thoughts. Thanks to L0ver and Kitty for reviewing! It’s much appreciated! ^_^ Now, on with the chapter!

Within the darkness of a lavish room, a figure paced impatiently. [ why are my kind such fools?] he thought. His movements increased when his thoughts turned to the abomination that was threatening his rule over the vampires. At first sight, his movements would be nothing short of graceful, a characteristic that was reinforced with his glowing and swaying silver tresses, his slim but fit figure, and his hypnotic amber eyes. He is well aware of the effect that his person has on the opposite sex and has indulged in that awareness many times. [ immortality has it’s usefulness as well as its annoyances. What’s the harm in tasting the fruits of nature?] He smirked at that last thought but quickly brought his mind back to the threat at hand. Naraku. He is the latest experimentation that was ordered by Sesshoumaru to be conducted.

The experimentation was a success and Sesshoumaru asked for a demonstration of his abilities. As they brought the new breed into the contained and secluded room in the laboratory, Sesshoumaru was surprised at the sight that greeted his amber gaze. The man had onyx strands that was well below the waist and piercing ruby eyes. He wore a twisted smirk that was nothing short of being psychotic, as if once the control was relinquished on his mental leash he will snap and run wild. And that is exactly what he did once he was given a taste of freedom. Only his body became an ominous mist that seeped through the vents of the building.

Sesshoumaru had no time to react for he was on the other side of the observatory glass. But he did hear his promised filled words that vibrated through the room even though he was no where in sight. Words that have haunted him for the last year.

“ you will find your end within my hands just like I found mine within yours. But before that could happen, I will take great pleasure in taking your greatest accomplishment.” Saying what needed to be said, Naraku completely left the laboratory in favor of beginning his plan.

Frustration was something that Sesshoumaru came in contact with every day and did a rather good job of hiding its effects on his person. But as of late, it has become harder and harder to do so with the constant paranoia that he was feeling. [something that I refuse to feel much longer. Those damn Brethren elites better be worth what I’m paying] he thought. Since that incident, he has stopped his side hobby of experimentation for fear of another leak. Wouldn’t do him any good if his enemies realized his intention of creating an unstoppable new army in order to make up for the flaws of his kind. [flaws that identify themselves with the names of sunlight and silver]. Each experimentation has been a failure after another. He should have stopped 50 years ago after her.

She was the first of experiments and the first of failures. [But such a beautiful failure] Sarcasm overpowering that very thought. She was a sight to behold. A newly created shadow to expand the darkness around the humans. She never took the transition from light to dark very well. [and that is where I came in to sway her to my liking]. She was still hanging on to her humanity after some time of being turned, a characteristic that disgusted him to no end. But he entertained her for some time until their wedding. Poor girl, never realized that the whole thing was a set up and completely false. Had she read the papers she signed, she would have realized that she was giving her life over to him but for an entirely different reason.

He did care for her, but it scared the hell out of him. He needed to get rid of her, but wanted to do so with style. [ her clinging humanity was what drove my idea of experimentation. If the human traits could be replaced by those of warriors, there was no stopping the vampires from gaining control of the real reality...not the ones the humans created to escape]. He wanted her to suffer for holding on to such a trait and in the end, it led to her demise. Though there were no specifics on her death, they assured him that it had been taken care of and that a new test subject was brought in to correct the mistakes of the first one.

He heard the figure in his bed shift but remain sleeping. He studied her from his position on the balcony. His intended was everything he wanted and more. She was a vixen in bed [something that has kept me entertained for countless hours], did an extraordinary job with swaying the mind of his partners, and, most importantly, contradicted everything that was Kagome. Kagura did have the same dark tresses but her eyes were a crimson paradise. Ruthless when dealing with others, especially on the battle field. She is everything a vampire queen should be. Yet, he postponed their mating for 20 years...afraid that she will be just like the others. [she must be the one to accept my essence...for I grow tired of seeking the proper female who is strong enough to conquer such a feat]. Countless tries but they all resulted the same: no heir.

The night was finally coming to an end for the fiery death was starting to make its appearance to the world, proclaiming that it was the beginning of a new day. [ or the end of one in our case]. He decided to make his way to the bed for much needed sleep, not knowing that it will be one of the final peaceful moments he will experience for quite some time. For tomorrow, his first failed creation will unknowingly make an appearance and demonstrate her definition of “success.”

I am beat! This chapter took more out of me than I realized! lol

until next time and don’t forget to review!
