Chapter 3 Miroku’s intro
~Please Read and Review~~
After a few minutes of catching up with friends, I decided it is time to skate. I figure a few more songs and there will be the backwards skate where I can show off a bit of my side skating skills. Not many people I know can do this and I have to say it is another one of my specialties.
I enter the floor on my own and start to gradually enjoy the tune Creep by Stone Temple Pilots. I love this song. I look around doing my people watching. It is one of the things I love to do. It also helps that I am a miko and can see a person’s aura. I notice most of the usual happy go lucky types and then I snap my head to the back of the rink. I notice the blackest aura I have ever seen coming from the practice rink. I look in that direction to see a man with black hair and red eyes. He was not a youkai, he was a hanyou. He was staring at me intently but speaking to another woman who had a feather in her hair.
I start to skate in the direction of this evil aura and I end up skating up behind a man with black hair and almost stumble because he turns, so quickly I barely have time to react.
“Holy shit, don’t do that!! You scared me half to death” I yell at the man. For the first time taking in his features, I notice that this is the monk. He had his hair tied back in a small dragon tail at the nape of his neck. He was wearing a deep purple button down dress shirt that snuggly hugged his chest and a pair of black jeans that seemed to fit in the right places too. He sported gold hoops in both ears, which I had not noticed before. He had on black skates but I couldn’t figure out the brand. He appeared to be very graceful as he grabbed my hand to steady me.
“My dear sweet miko, I did not mean to startle you.” The monk slyly eyes me and his eyes land upon my breasts. I huff a bit and that catches his attention. “Sorry, force of habit to enjoy the plentiful bounty of a woman’s figure.” I feel the houshi push some spiritual energy into my hand and it helped me relax a bit. He must be almost as powerful as me if he has this effect on me. He must have also felt the blackness. ‘I should probably ask him about it.’ I push my own energy back into his hand. I see him leaning forward and with his head close to my ear, I hear him say very quietly, “oh…I knew that you were a miko but I had no idea how powerful you truly were.” His tone is so hushed that I can barely hear him. I know he is doing this to keep the peace and make sure none of the youkai get freaked out with me so close to them.
“No harm done. I see you have been checking out my friend. You have to admit that you could not keep your eyes off of her. You are almost as transparent as she is.” I wiggle my brow at the man as I see a blush creep across his cheeks. This conversation was now distracting me from what I had been doing not more than one minute before but I figured, ‘What the hell, the night is long. I will check them out later’
“Ah, the precious beauty that is your dear friend. Would you kindly tell me the name of the woman that has enraptured my very waking dreams this fine evening?” He looks at me intently.
“Her name is Sango and she will kick your ass for asking and my ass for telling.” I laugh gently knowing my friend all to well. She may be a bit violent but talking to guys was never her thing since most of them were scared of her.
“My angel Sango” he says under his breath and looks at the girl. “Would you also do me the honor of telling me your name, sweet miko?”
“I am Kagome. You can call me Kags if you like. I did not get the impression that you were from around here. I have never seen you before and you seem to be a great skater. What is your name houshi and why did you show up in monk’s robes with a hanyou in tow that is wearing a traditional Japanese kimono?”
“I am Miroku and I have travelled with my friend from Hokkaido for the try outs and to see about Nationals. We have the intention of training at this rink if we make it to the team. We will move here too in fact. We had just come from the telling of an old story at the orphanage that we volunteer at and did not have time to change until we got here. We tell stories to the children and we like to make sure they see the real thing so they understand about our culture.” The monk eyes me up and I turn my head so he doesn’t see my glee. Wait; my glee. What the hell, I see that beautiful man with silver hair for like 2 minutes and now I can’t wait to see him again. I don’t even know the guy, or his name for that matter.
“That is so wonderful that you do that and I pray to all that is holy that you are not lying to me to win Sango’s favor or I myself will kick your ass.” I stop to contemplate my next sentence and continue in a hushed tone, “The hanyou that was with you, would you be willing to tell me his name?” I asked a little more subtly.
“Sorry Kags, if you want to get his name, you will have to do that yourself. Let me warn you though, he has a temper that I have never seen another being on this green Earth hold a candle to. Plus he is not too discreet when it comes to the verbiage he chooses to use, even in the presence of a pretty lady. I am not sure it will be an easy feet for you to accomplish.” I actually let out a laugh at that.
“Sango says the same thing about me actually. “Don’t cross her path or she will annihilate you” Those are her words anyway; I don’t think I am that bad though. Where is your friend then?” Never wanting to admit I couldn’t wait to see him again.
“He should be changing, I think?” I don’t think he was too sure of what he should tell me at this point.
I take my leave of the monk Miroku after we exchange a few more pleasantries and head off the floor for a quick bottle of water. What I see next shocks the hell out of me.
I move past the last emergency exit and I see the beautiful hanyou in the grip of a woman. Not just any woman, my boss Kikyo. She has her hands fisted in his haori and is crying. I don’t think I have ever seen her show this much emotion in my life.
“Kikyo, you have to stop this. I can’t be with you anymore. There is just no more us, you proved that to me when you went to Bankotsu’s bed and that is something that I am not willing to forgive or forget.” He spat the words at her as I looked to see the anguish and anger those words held for him.
Kikyo’s crying turned to anger as she yelled for all to hear, “Fuck you! Just get the hell out of here!! I don’t want to see you anymore.” She threw herself away from him in a hurry and ran to the front of the rink to the office.
I didn’t think now was the time to approach Adonis so I chose to continue on my journey for water. I was parched and needed a drink. I found Sango hanging out and kicking Shippo and Kohaku’s ass in pool with Even Flow blaring above head.
“Hey do you want to come with for water?” I asked trying to give her the hint that I wanted to talk to her. She got it right away too.
“You two can finish up the game and then I will take winner next round.” She and I skate away, arms linked. I let my head and shoulders droop a bit from the sadness I was all the sudden feeling from what I just saw from Kikyo and the hanyou. I hate when people have to deal with heartache, no matter who they are.
“What’s up Kags?” She turns to me with a look of worry on her face.
“You look really down, especially for the night we are having. I know you have eyes on that piece of eye candy with the monk, so don’t deny it. I also saw you talking to the monk out on the floor. My Kami, what the hell is that man doing to me.” She looks in the direction of the houshi.
“He went and changed and I didn’t even know it was him until Yura started babbling about some hot ass guy she wouldn’t mind taking back to her place. She pointed him out to me and I couldn’t believe it. It was that damn houshi.” She looks down at her water.
“Did he mention anything about me?” She says slowly. Trying to be nonchalant was not one of her strong points and this time was no different. . I try to suppress my giggle as I start.
“The monk’s name is Miroku and he and the eye candy, as you call him, are from Hokkaido. They are here for the try outs and have hopes for Nationals. He did have much to say about you too. You apparently are his angel. I don’t think he meant for me to hear that part though. I told him your name, don’t hit me please…” I flinch in a preemptive reaction to the ever imminent punch that should follow. “I knew you wouldn’t do it so I started the ball rolling. He wouldn’t tell me his buddy’s name though, said something about him having a bad temper and a sharp tongue on top of that” I finish and notice that Sango is now laughing hysterically. I give her a look like ‘what the fuck?’
“Yeah, you two would be a great couple.” She says to me between spasms of laughter.
“Anyway, I went to get some water and then I was going to see about talking to this guy. You wouldn’t believe what I saw” I told her all that I had seen between Kikyo and Adonis.
“She must have cheated on the guy from the sound of it. What are the odds that he would show up at this rink though? He had to know that she owned it.” Sango questioned.
“I don’t think it matters, this is where the try outs are and the hopefuls for Nationals are all here to. He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that would give that up because some stupid bitch broke his heart.” The last part slipped out before I even really took comprehension of what I said. I cover my mouth with my hand quickly.
“Whoa! Hold the phone Kags! You really have the hots for this one don’t you?” She eyed me up as she asks.
“Not sure yet, he is hot and I would love to see him out of that kimono but that’s not even that important. I just need to know if he’s fast.”
