Chapter 3
I sped away from him after sensing his father’s arrival. If he sees me, surely, he’ll see me as a threat and wouldn’t have second thoughts in attacking me. I hid in the shadows, another skill our kind has.
Inuyasha is safe with the Inu no Taisho. It’s time for me to leave. Deeper I went in to the shadow and when I turned I was standing in front of a medieval castle carved on the face of a mountain. “Home”. I whispered nonchalantly.
My eyes glowed from the light of the moon, a golden hue, a gift of heredity from the royal vampires.
I slowly walked towards the raised black iron gates. Two bulky looking vampires, wearing metal armor, man their post and bowed in respect upon seeing me. I acknowledge them with a light bow and continued walking towards the castle. Inside the walls of my home are stone houses, house of the commoners, that when one sees them they would think that this place froze in an era, perhaps… we did. Actually we can choose to live in the present or the past conditions it’s just a matter of preference. We chose the regal times of Europe. “It makes the caste system more defined.” My father would put it.
As a vampire you have a certain age to where your body would stop growing and preserve you at the peak of your body’s most... most beautiful, most powerful, and most deadly. When one vampire dies, he chose to die.
I continued walking on the central stone path towards another iron black gate. This time the gate is adorned with intricate golden designs. This is the inner gate. More armored vampires man the walls for behind this are the palatial houses of the vampire lords that over sees our kind from other lands. They are “The Elders” one human story puts it. The gate was slowly raised and I continued walking.
The sun never shines here, inside the wall that is. This is the underworld. Hell as they may put it... but it you cannot find tormented souls here. Still this is the realm of the living. If anyone wishes to come here they are able to, that is if they can survive their way to the farthest end of the world.
I continued walking till I’m in front of the castle gates. The last gate. Here no armored vampires man the gates or that seems to be the case. They’re just hidden in the shadows waiting for the perfect moment to strike any intruder. My eyes are able to see them and they acknowledge my presence with a low bow.
I entered the castle, unlike the gloomy, dark environment outside, inside it is warm and homey. The great hall is illuminated by a grand candle chandelier and torch lamps illuminated very place in the castle, its light adding to the homey ambiance. The whole of the great hall seems to be a great painting depicting a life in heaven. Seeing always give me the feeling of ambivalence. It makes me happy to see the people’s smiling faces, the utter joy they feel radiates in me but it also makes me sad for the fact that life in heaven is a life that we can never have... it the curse of our immortality.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” a man’s soft voice echoes throughout the hall.
“It is...” I replied. I looked at him. His black hair cut short and his face with the warmest smile, his hand inside his white kimono, almost the same as mine but with a different purple obi.
“You always look at it whenever you enter the door. Maybe that’s why you always walk towards the castle. So you have an excuse to pass through the castle door.”
Everything he said was right. If I have the chance I always walk towards the castle just to see this marvel of art. “I will be in my quarters.”
“Sesshomaru, brother, our father wishes to talk to you.”
“I will be there momentarily, Miroku.” I wish to be alone for the moment.
*it’s because of “him” isn’t it*
*Miroku, your mind reading and telepathy will be an inconvenience to you if you continue using this on Me.* I replied as I continued walking towards great staircase towards my quarters.
*I’m sorry brother... it’s because it radiates from you. Your mind bellows at me and you think I’m the one who’s annoying?”
Miroku having his power is a great inconvenience for a brother. He’s the only one I can show my true feelings to... aside from my diseased mother, he’s actually the only one that sees it.
*I see... so you almost bit him.*
*MIROKU! I don’t need somebody who will remind me of my failure to control my demon!* it only re-assures my decision not to see him anymore and maybe that preserve his life.
*brother...*
*I’m sorry... I will be at the throne room momentarily… I need some time alone.* at that I blocked his thoughts.
“Fate plays a very hurtful game… Sesshomaru my brother… you deserve to be happy.” Miroku whispered in the wind.
I walked towards my room. I used my telekinesis to open the door and closed it. The room was dark and spacious. At the far end the immaculate light of the moon passes through the flowing white silk curtain that blocks the way to the terrace.
I walked out and rest my hands on the waist high stone balustrade. The gentle breeze playing with my hair and bringing forth the sweet smell of the night flowers that forever blooms at my garden. It spreads throughout the castle ground but only at my side of the castle. It seems to glow with moonlight. “Beautiful”.
A gust of wind makes the petals fly in the air and flew towards me. I closed my eyes… I don’t want to see what’s going to happen next. The moment the petals touches me it wilted.
Once you touch the flowers... it dies. I was only able to plant the flowers in my garden by using my powers but never can anyone touch it. Something that can never be yours... even if it’s just an arm length’s away for the moment you touch it… it dies and wilts away. Just like my Inuyasha… if I decide to be with him… he may die... I have to settle in watching him form afar, marvel at his beauty, and long for the feel of his warm touch on my skin. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes. “It’s time”
Once again I sank deeper in the shadows and appeared in the throne room behind a pillar where the lamps can’t illuminate. “You wish for my presence Father?”
“Ah… Sesshomaru… I will go straight to the point my son. You have reached a certain age where you will join the elders, being my eldest; you’ll be replacing me as the head of the council.”
“And...?”
“Tell me Sesshomaru… do you have an intended?”
*Silence
“You see I notice you leaving every now and then… and I was thinking that maybe someone, at last, had given you interest.”
“No father… I was just… hunting.”
“Hunting? Ah yes… you don’t favor human blood but instead you like animal blood. Tell me Sesshomaru... does it taste the same? Does it give you the same power that human blood gives us?”
“No father... it doesn’t taste the same but it gives the same amount of replenishment for some time... so I need to hunt more.”
“Ah... I see now... how about youkai blood…? They say its ambrosia. One of the reasons why we don’t often drink their blood is that they are also powerful beings and that they can also kill us.”
“…”
“What about a certain youkai… a royal Inu yaokai named...”
My head shot straight up from what my father was saying. He couldn’t mean-
“Inuyasha?”
>>> I have to cut the chapter here... sorry for that... I have to go out of town this holy week so I can't update my stories... but after this week I think I can post another chapter... thanks for reading!
