Chapter 3: Nightmares Begin

By the time the trio had entered the door of the hospital, Kagome had already lost consciousness due to blood loss. Many of her wounds weren’t bad, but a couple on her arm had cut through main veins causing large amounts of her blood to seep through and coat Sesshomaru, who was very thankful that he wore red. Kagome was immediately admitted, and Sesshomaru carried her into the room before placing her on the hospital bed. The next several minutes were a flurry of activities. Doctors and nurses came bustling into the room, checking vitals, installing monitors, and starting IV’s before Kagome was whisked away to surgery in order to remove the shards of glass that were preventing her cuts from closing and give stitches where needed.
Sesshomaru was left standing in the room with Naraku, coated in the blood of the small woman. Glancing over at Naraku, he noticed his close friend had a pained expression on his face. “She will be alright.”
“I know that, but I should have been keeping a closer eye on her, I knew this was coming. For crying out loud, she had only arrived in Tokyo last night!”
“You wouldn’t have been able to know what was coming, everyone handles death differently.”
“I know you’re right but I can’t help but worry about her. Will this be the only occurrence, or do you think that she may try again?”
“Only time will tell, Naraku, but I will help you watch over her.”
Casting a small grateful smile over to his long time friend, Naraku proceeded to find comfort in a small chair that was located in the room, he wasn’t sure how long he was going to be here.

An hour later and Kagome was wheeled back into the room, all glass shards removed from her person. Sesshomaru had gone home to change with a promise that he would be back soon and that he would bring breakfast, since nobody had eaten yet. Kagome was still unconscious, but the doctor insisted that she should wake up with in a couple of hours, that she was just resting and waiting for the anesthesia to wear off. Naraku gave a small nod and went to stand over his sister, apologizing profusely and promising he would take better care of her. A few minutes later and Sesshomaru had returned with lunch.
“How is she doing?”
“The doctors said that she will be fine, and there is very little chance of any of it even scaring, once the blood was cleaned away apparently it wasn’t as bad as it looked.”
Sesshomaru gave a small nod and the two remained in silence until Kagome woke up.

Kagome was dreaming, her parents and Sota were still there with her, her mother was hugging her and comforting her saying how much she had missed and loved her, and for a few brief moments Kagome was truly happy, but that was when things began to change. Her mother pointed to something in the distance, turning to face it she realized that it was her parent’s car, careening down the road far faster than it should have been. Looking in another direction, she noticed a large semi truck coming. Yelling at her father to slow down and stop, the car kept on going and was side swiped by the large truck, pieces of glass and metal flying everywhere in the street. The sickening crunch of the car being crushed echoed in her ears. Tears brimmed at her eyes, and when she went to wipe them away, she discovered that they were covered in blood; she was covered in blood, their blood. Turning back to her family, Kagome noticed that they were now bloodied and mangled, glaring at her, yelling at her, and blaming her. This was all her fault, and it was. It really was. They began to get closer to her, pulling on her clothes and her hair, spreading their blood across her person, and she screamed.

Jumping up in bed Kagome let out a blood curdling scream before bursting into tears. Naraku jumped from his seat next to the bed and tried to calm his sister, whispering comforting words to her. Kagome continued to wail. “It’s all my fault, they’re dead and it’s all my fault,” kept spilling from her lips as she continued to cry. Naraku was at a loss of what to do, nothing could make her stop, sending a pleading look over to Sesshomaru, Sesshomaru was at a loss as well, he had never had to deal with this before. Standing from his seat, Sesshomaru walked out of the room to fetch a doctor.
When he returned a doctor was next to him. “Kagome,” the strange voice startled her and she turned her attention to the doctor. Sesshomaru breath caught as he looked into the enchanting blue eyes of his best friend’s little sister, he felt so hopeless, he knew she was in pain from the look in her eyes and he made a promise to himself that he would help her through it, and that she would never be in so much pain again.
“Kagome,” the doctor repeated, “I know that you are under a lot of stress right now, and that the world seems a little darker now that your parents are gone, but I need for you to listen to me…none of what has happened is your fault, and you need to stop blaming yourself for it.”
Kagome took in a shuttering breath, but didn’t respond. Her once vibrant blue orbs looked glassy and hollow. The doctor gave one last final look to the small girl before leaving the room, bringing Naraku and Sesshomaru with him.
“I hate to tell you this, but we can’t do anything for her mental health here. In order for her to get over what has happened to her, she is just going to need constant supervision as well as a strong foundation of people to help her through it. All you need to do is surround her with love and support her, and that is really all you can do. Listen, my wife’s name is Sango, she’s a psychologist, and she might be able to help more than I can.” The doctor slipped them a business card. “I know it isn’t much, but it is the best I can do. Kagome will be able to leave the hospital tomorrow, and I’ll need for you to bring her back in a week in order to remove some of the sutures.”
“Very well” Naraku responded, “and thank you Miroku for helping us.”
Violet eyes sparkling, Miroku smiled and walked away from the two, leaving them with the crying bundle inside the room.
