“Sess…Sesshomaru,” Kagome whispered to herself.
The tall imposing youkai’s eyes widened fractionally at the young woman, young ningen woman in front of him. It had been many centuries since anyone other than family, or servants from the old days knew his first name. Who is this woman? He thought.
Kagome was frozen in place until she thought of what this meant. If Sesshomaru is alive, Inuyasha or Shippo...they could still be alive too! Her face light up with that thought, as she launched herself into a long lost comrade and held on tight as if she were afraid he would disappear once she let go; leaving her all alone once again.
If Sesshomaru hadn’t been surprised that a mere ningen had known his first name, he sure was now. No one ever touched him, partly because most feared him and kept their distance anyway, and partly because he had never given anyone permission. What gives this slip of a ningen the right to touch this Sesshomaru’s person? He thought irritably to himself. Just as he was about to remove her he took a slight sniff and instantly knew who held onto him so desperately. He hadn’t seen her for over 500 years. Not since the great battle against the evil Naraku, where she had just disappeared.
He quickly changed thoughts, not wanting to remember. How could she possibly be here? This woman is ningen, she does not have the ability to live this long.
“Miko,” he called to her. She didn’t respond except to tighten her grip, as if she unconsciously knew he was trying to get her to release him.
“Miko, you will let go of this Sesshomaru’s person this instant and tell me how you are able to stand here.” He ordered coldly.
Crap, I forgot this is Sesshomaru, the Killing Perfection, I’m holding! Kagome thought to herself as she slowly pealed herself off of the youkai lord.
“I am so sorry; I was just so excited to finally see someone from the past! It has been so lonely without all of you.”
“Hn,”
Stoic as ever I can see. You would think that in 500 years he would become a little more approachable, the young miko thought.
“Miko, you have yet to explain why you are still alive. I do not like repeating myself. Don’t make me do it again.” He said harshly.
“Um…well you see, I’m teaching history here now and well…a couple of your Kendo students have after school detention with me today. I came to inform you and to see how they might be able to make up the missed practice.” Kagome replied.
Sesshomaru was getting aggravated with her attempt at dodging his question, but waited patiently for her to finish. The only give away of his aggravation was a slight clenching of his jaw and narrowing of his eyes.
“That does not explain how you are still alive after 500 years. Now tell me how this is possible, and then we will discuss my students,” Sesshomaru stated.
Kagome’s temper flared at that. That arrogant dog, he thinks he can just order me around in this day and age!? Well I’ll show him, she angrily thought.
“I’m sorry I cannot discuss my presence here in the future, but I would love to get back to the discussion of our students. Since, that IS the reason for me seeking you out Mr. Tashio,” Kagome ground out between clenched teeth.
“Thought I do appreciate you taking the time to inform me of my disruptive students, they will still be on time at practice tonight or they are no longer a part of this team,” Sesshomaru replied icily.
He had forgotten how stubborn and easily angered this woman was. Then an idea came to him.
“Unless…,” Sesshomaru trailed off.
“Unless what?” Kagome asked warily.
“Unless you want to tell me how you are still alive. If you answer that, then I’ll allow my students to serve their detention and keep their spot on the team,” he stated confidently.
Inside he knew it was a low blow to use her sympathy and generosity to pry information, which was apparently very important to keep secret, out of her. But he just had to know why she was here and why she disappeared leading to Inuyasha’s…decline.
That bastard! Kagome growled in her head. He would use his students for his own selfish gain. If I’m to give in to help my students I should get some useful information as well. He has no idea what he’s asking me to reveal. At least the well doesn’t work anymore, so I don’t have to worry about him tampering with the past.
Kagome gave a defeated sigh as Sesshomaru straightened in triumph. He knew he would win the information he desired.
“I’ll tell you, only under a few conditions,” Kagome stated.
“Tell me your conditions and we may have an agreement,” the youkai lord replied.
“First what I reveal to you is to be kept between us and will be talked about outside of these walls and away from prying ears.”
With that Sesshomaru nodded his head positively as Kagome took a breath to continue.
“Secondly, you will allow OUR students to serve out their detention with me after school today and later make up practice.”
Once again he nodded his head in agreement. Kagome took a long pause as she gathered the courage to name her third and final condition.
“And lastly, I want you to tell me everything that happened with our packs after I left. I want to know how everyone lived out their lives and who is still living and where,” she finished firmly.
With the last request Sesshomaru stiffened. He hadn’t thought she would request something like that, but he should have known. Is her secret worth the information I hold? Will it be worth the time to explain everything? Should this Sesshomaru even share all the knowledge of the past…Yes, her explanation is worth this information and I can always skim over certain facts, he quickly thought to himself. With his mind made up he looked down to the young miko turned woman.
“This Sesshomaru agrees to all of your terms. We will meet this evening to discuss how it is possible you are here and agree upon another evening to discuss the past. The troublesome students will be allowed to miss practice this once. Inform them that if they ever end up in trouble again, I won’t be so lenient,” and with that the youkai lord turned and walked back into his office.
“But how will I know where to meet you?” Kagome called to him quickly.
He looked over his shoulder and told her to meet him here at his office after Kendo practice, and then shut the door in her face.
“Well, some people never change,” she mumbled to herself irritably as she walked back to her classroom to finish her day.
