It was a few days later, he was standing, looking out his study window when he noticed that he had a problem. *My, it’s gotten hot all of a sudden* he said to himself and then noticed the stripes on his arms were more vibrant than usual. *My heat seems to have started a day early.* He considered the implications of this to the exclusion of everything around him.
Just at that moment Kagome knocked on his study door before opening the door and entering the room. She then did a double take after seeing his eyes. “Sesshomaru, are you ok?” she asked.
“Fine Kagome, why do you ask?” he replied.
“Well, the last time I saw your eyes that colour you were attacking Inuyasha for the Tetsusaiga.” She said. He could smell the fear that had just started coming into her scent and his beast didn’t like it. He started growling slightly and her fear scent spiked higher, she looked like she was about to run, which would have been a bad idea. He slowly started getting his beast in control and dropped the volume of the growling so she couldn’t hear and her scent of fear receded.
“I am fine Kagome, it is nothing for you to worry about” he said not looking at her in shame at having lost control while she could see. He heard her moving around the room and then felt fingers on his cheeks, tracing the stripes there.
“Your stripes are brighter, they look beautiful…” she whispered changing the subject “I wish I had some sometimes, but I’d just look silly.” She ended with a giggle at herself.
“You wouldn’t look silly!” he blurted suddenly looking at her then away. *I have NO control today! What’s happened to me?* he wondered, sounding exasperated.
*Your going into heat and the one we BOTH want is near… you expected this heat to be the same as all the others?* his beast stated. * Yes!* he replied *If I can show no control in front of her the fear will return and she wont want us.*
*Then explain to her what’s happening and why you have no control, especially around her.* he beast stated reasonably.
*She is still getting over Inuyasha. She won’t even consider us yet* he replied.
*Then just enjoy having her near until she will* his beast said, curling up in a corner of his mind.
He then realized she hadn’t stopped tracing his stripes and had even moved on to tracing his ears as well. He was enjoying this so much he was startled to hear her starting to giggle softly.
“What are you finding funny?” he asked, wondering what she was thinking of.
“You were purring Sesshomaru, actually purring!” she stated and then stared laughing softly again and tracing is face and ears again. He thought about it for a moment but was enjoying her touch too much to care. Rin then came running into the room with a frantic Jaken behind her. “Sorry M’lord, I tried to stop her.” The frog demon said. Noticing his lords’ condition he started shaking, his lord was not pleasant to be around during his heat.
“Sesshomaru-sama, can I go outside? Please? Please? I wanna pick flowers.” She said excitedly, not stopping for a breath she continued “Can Kagome-sama come with me? We can play and make those crowny things we made for Jaken-sama before.”
“Rin, you may go outside but Kagome will have to answer for herself” he said looking at her.
“I’d love to Rin, lets go!” she said, walking out the door with a happy Rin.
After they had gone Jaken asked “I will organize your work be given to others for the next week M’lord.”
“Why would that be necessary Jaken?” Sesshomaru asked, turning his red eyes toward his retainer.
“M’lord, your condition! You always…” he stopped at the feral expression his lord had on his face.
“I will notify you when that will be necessary, it is not required now.” He said coldly.
