Rin sifted through the files from the different victims in the Arachnid case once again. She rubbed her temples, willing the pounding in her head to subside. Looking over the pictures of the victims she growled.
“Where the hell did you go asshole?”
She jumped up in her chair as the door to her office burst open and slammed against the wall.
“Rin you’re not going to fucking believe this!”
Her gaze snapped up to Yatsuhara Kouga, her partner and long time friend. Kouga was an ookami youkai and a damn good detective to boot. They had gone through the academy together and he had originally had a huge crush on her. He had asked her out countless times in their academy days until one day he wasn’t able to contain himself. He grabbed her ass and so she shot him in the leg, they had been best friends ever since.
Now it wasn’t that Kouga wasn’t an attractive man. On the contrary, his tan skin, long midnight black hair and ocean blue eyes that seemed to draw you in were the epitome of sexiness. The way his black business pants hugged his slim waist and his white collared shirt clung to the firm, chiseled muscles of his arms and chest was enough to make any woman swoon.
Rin however, had never wanted anything more than friendship from him.
“There better be a damn good reason you barged in here without knocking Kouga, you know I hate that.”
“Yeah, I do. But I also have a damn good reason for barging into your office.”
He slammed down a small stack of papers on her desk.
“Read that, your not going to fucking believe it!”
Rin looked down at the paper on her desk and quickly scanned the article before opening it up all the way. She met a gruesome site, the same site she had been staring at for the past year and a half.
Rin shot up in her seat and stared at him in disbelief.
“Where the fuck did you get this!?!”
“I was talking to a buddy of mine in the FBI about the case a while back. He knew about our standstill and when he saw this in the paper he gave me a call and emailed me the article. It’s gotta be our guy. Same MO and it explains his sudden disappearance. That fucker skipped the country! He’s in America Rin!”
She could feel her body trembling in rage and she pulled at her hair.
“God damn it God damn it God damn it!!! How the hell did this happen!!” Rin screamed in frustration.
“So what the fuck are we gonna do now?” Kouga asked her seriously.
Rin looked at the article one more time, fighting the urge to tear it to shreds.
“At this point, there isn’t anything we can do.” She replied in quiet rage.
“FUCK!!!” She screamed before turning and kicking her desk with all her might, the sound of her desk tipping over and crashing to the ground giving her momentary satisfaction.
Pushing past him she stormed out of her office leaving a trail of terror in her wake.
“Rin! Rin! Where are you going?!” Kouga yelled after her.
Rin didn’t reply but continued on her path of destruction.
“Rin! God damn it!” Kouga shouted, running after her, barely avoiding crashing into a lieutenant and a small group of deputies.

“I’ve already told you Mr.Takahashi. Mr. Saishyo is not seeing visitors at this time you cannot speak with him!” The receptionist behind the front desk of the police academy office said exasperatedly.
Sesshoumaru gave the woman a death glare and didn’t move from the spot he had occupied in front of her desk for the past twenty five minutes.
“Yura. It is Yura isn’t it?” Inuyasha asked from his spot next to his brother.
The receptionist placed one hand on her hip and with the other pushed her black rimmed glasses up her nose.
“That’s Ms. Sagara to you.”
“Ms. Sagara please understand,” Inuyasha pressed, staring into her blood red eyes.
“It’s an emergency. It is of the utmost importance that we speak to him as soon as possible.”
“And as I have told you again and again he is not available right now! If you had an appointment this wouldn’t be a problem. Since you don’t however, I suggest you try back tomorrow!”
Sesshoumaru growled dangerously and slammed his fists down on her desk. He let the poison in his claws seep out and onto the dark marble and the smell of acid hit Yura’s nose.
“If you value your life you will step aside.”
Yura took a step back as her stance faltered. The chill of terror crawled up her spine as she looked at the Taiyoukai before her. While she was under strict orders to not disturb Mr. Saishyo while he was in a meeting, she was seriously thinking of breaking that rule at the moment. The youkai in front of her was incredibly powerful, and while she was not a lower youkai, she knew that she would stand no chance against him should he attack.
Inuyasha watched Yura closely, praying she would do as his brother demanded. Sesshoumaru’s temper had recently had a significantly shorter fuse than normal and he knew that resorting to violence in the police academy was not the brightest idea. While it was true that both he and Sesshoumaru were youkai, there were only a certain number of bullets that their bodies could withstand should it be brought to that.
He nearly breathed out a sigh of relief as Yura picked up the receptionist’s phone and dialed.
“Mr. Saishyo, I’m very sorry to disturb you but it’s an emergency.”
Muffled talking could be heard coming from the phone.
“Yes sir, I know I am not supposed to disturb you during a meeting but- Yes sir, I understand but… Sir! I need you to come down here immediately! Yes, yes sir I understand. Thank you sir, goodbye.”
Yura hung up the phone and let out an irritated sigh.
“Mr. Saishyo told me to lead you to his office. It’s right this way.”
Straightening her maroon business suit with dark purple pin stripes she turned and headed toward Mr. Saishyo’s office, not bothering to turn and see if they were following her.
Opening the door to his office she motioned for them to enter and then slammed it behind them.
“Asshole.” She muttered under her breath as she walked back to her desk.
Sesshoumaru ignored the comment and took a seat in the rather large office that belonged to Saishyo Hiten. Looking around the room he couldn’t see anything that would really give them a clue to what kind of man Hiten was. While the office was decorated, it was not of personal things but rather places. The photographs that hung on the walls were landscapes, all beautiful, but nothing that would reveal anything about the man.
Inuyasha took a seat next to his brother and tapped his foot lightly on the ground, waiting for Mr. Saishyo to arrive. He could feel the tension in his brother building. While Sesshoumaru had retained his stoic expression he could feel the energy Sesshoumaru not paying any heed to it.
He knew his brother would have to maintain control over himself. Inuyasha found it easy enough. With all his training in the CIA he knew that letting his emotions take control of him would not solve anything. Sesshoumaru was well aware of this too. While Sesshoumaru was technically in a lower rank as the FBI he knew it wasn’t because Sesshoumaru couldn’t join the CIA, it was because he didn’t want to. In fact, Sesshoumaru had been offered a position in the CIA multiple times and had turned all of them down. Why, Inuyasha wasn’t sure but he had never asked his brother about it.
Both brothers snapped their heads up as the door to the office opened and Saishyo Hiten stepped in. He wasn’t an exceptionally tall man, and he had a rather slim build. However, there was something intimidating about the Lightning Youkai that Inuyasha couldn’t quite put his finger on.
Hiten walked behind his desk and took a seat, flipping the long brown braid that held his hair behind him. He folded his hands on his desk and tapped his claws lightly on the desk. Not in a threatening manner, but more out of habit and annoyance perhaps.
“Well, it seems that the two of you have successfully terrified my staff and disrupted an extremely important meeting. Now, please tell me how I can be of assistance to you. And I warn you, it had better be good or I’m locking you both up for harassment and premeditated battery.” Sesshoumaru ignored the threat and looked Hiten in the eyes.
“I am looking for someone and I was told you would know where she is.”
Hiten squared his eyes at Sesshoumaru.
“Even if I did know where this person was, I am not authorized to give that information out to the general public.”
“We are not the general public.” Inuyasha interrupted, pulling his badge out of his pocket.
“I’m Takahashi Inuyasha, CIA. With that I demand that you release any information that you have on Minamoto Rin.”
Hiten turned his gaze to Inuyasha, his eyes hardening.
“While I will congratulate you Mr. Takahashi on your status as a CIA officer it will get you no leeway here, this is not America.”
Turning his gaze to Sesshoumaru he looked at him suspiciously.
“What is it that you want with Ms. Minamoto? Answer carefully Mr. Takahashi, whether I give you any information or not is at my own discresion.”
Sesshoumaru could tell Hiten was trying to size him up. See if his intentions were true and exactly what they were. He had a feeling this Hiten character knew exactly where Rin was. It also seemed that he, more than likely, was close to Rin in some aspect.
“Rin is the woman I am in love with.” Sesshoumaru answered frankly.
Inuyasha turned and looked at Sesshoumaru in surprise. While he knew his brother was in love with Rin, he did not think that he would be willing to admit it to anyone, let alone a stranger.
Hiten watched Sesshoumaru carefully but could feel no ill will from him in regards to Rin. As far as he could tell Sesshoumaru was telling the truth. Pulling his wallet from his pocket he flipped it open and looked down at a picture of himself, a young man and a young woman. The woman’s face was smiling brightly up at him, a graduation cap slipping off of her head and she was holding a diploma.
*So, he is the reason you didn’t accept the Ookami’s proposals eh?*
Rubbing his thumb over the picture he flipped his wallet closed and put it back in his pocket.
“Rin Minamoto attended this academy eight years ago.”
Sesshoumaru looked at Hiten intensely and remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
“She was one of my best students. She was determined, more so than any of the other idiots I have seen trying to make it here. Her determination though, it was fueled by something deeper- rage, the need for revenge I think.”
Hiten sighed.
“She graduated with honors, her and another student. An ookami, Yatsuhara Kouga if I remember correctly-inseparable those two were.”
Hiten laughed loudly to himself.
“Those two were always getting into trouble.” He smiled fondly at the memory.
“Anyway, Rin was chosen right outta the academy. She’s a detective now, in the sex crimes unit, exactly where she wanted to be. As far as I know she’s still partnered with Kouga.”
Sesshoumaru continued to look at Hiten, but he felt his heart drop into the pit of his stomach at the mention of this ookami.
“What’s her relationship to the ookami?” Sesshoumaru asked.
Hiten sighed. “That, is something you’d have to ask her.”
Sesshoumaru digested this information, not pleased with it in the least.
Standing up, Hiten nodded to both Takahashi’s.
“If that is all that you needed I have to get back to my meeting.”
Both Takahashi brothers stood up and bowed deeply.
“Thank you Mr. Saishyo.” Sesshoumaru replied gruffly.
Both brothers turned to leave, as Sesshoumaru was closing the door behind him Hiten called out to him.
“Sesshoumaru!”
Sesshoumaru stopped and turned around.
“That’s Hiten to you.”
Sesshoumaru nodded to him and began to close the door.
“Oh, and Sesshoumaru.”
Sesshoumaru turned back around to face Hiten.
“If she calls me crying, I’m going to gut you and line my office chair with your hide.”
Sesshoumaru said nothing and just closed the door behind him.
* * * * * * * * * * *
“So what do you think Sesshoumaru?” Inuyasha asked, looking at his brother from the passenger’s seat.
“What do I think about what?”
“What do you think about this ookami?” Inuyasha asked.
Sesshoumaru ran a hand through his long silver tresses and let out an agitated sigh.
“I don’t know.” He replied
“Are you sure she’s even gonna remember you? It sounds like this ookami may have already staked a claim on her.”
Sesshoumaru didn’t reply as he tore ass down the road and pulled into the police station parking lot. He skidded to a stop in the parking lot and jumped out of the car.
He looked at the large glass building in anticipation. It was finally time. He was finally going to see her again and no ookami was going to stop him. Rin was his; she had been since the day she was born.
“Inuyasha stay in the car.”
Inuyasha yanked off his sun glass and looked at Sesshoumaru like he had grown a second head.
“Are you outta your mind? It’s hot as hell out here there’s no way I’m waiting for you in the fucking car!”
Sesshoumaru growled low in his throat. “Inuyasha, I said stay in the car.”
Inuyasha growled right back, not in the least bit intimidated.
“Little brother, I am going in alone. Do what you want but you are not coming in that building.”
Inuyasha stepped out of the car and slammed the door shut.
“Fine then asshole! I’ll go and get some coffee.”
Inuyasha watched his brother walk away and grumbled to himself, imitating his brother.
“You’re not going in there Inuyasha. Blah blah blah. Kiss my white ass fluffy.”
* * * * * * * * * * *
Sesshoumaru sat in Rin’s office in anticipation. He could practically feel his youki calling to him, working him up even more. It sensed its mate was close. Sesshoumaru took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. In truth, he didn’t know what he was going to do once he saw Rin again. He should be angry at her, furious even. Why had she stopped writing to him? Returning his calls? Would she even be happy to see him?
He stood up and paced around her office, looking at all the diplomas and awards on the walls. She had certainly made something of herself over the years. He picked up a picture that was framed on her desk, and was shocked to see a child smiling back at him. A little girl with dark brown hair and ocean blue eyes. She was holding up a drawing that said I love you in big bold letters.
Sesshoumaru felt his heart just about leap out of his chest. This little girl, she couldn’t be! Rin couldn’t have a daughter, she just couldn’t! He looked closer; the child did have the same coloring as Rin, except for the eyes. Rin didn’t have blue eyes…..did she? There was one other thing he also noticed about the child, and that was the wolf ears on top of her head. This wasn’t just any child, this was a hanyou. One part was definitely human, and he would have bet his left nut that the other half was ookami.
The ringing of his cell phone startled him so much that he dropped the picture on her desk. Growling, he yanked the phone out of his pocket and flipped it open.
“What the fuck do you want?” He barked out.
“That no way to speak to your boss is it now Takahashi!”
Sesshoumaru stifled a groan at his boss’s voice.
“What do you want Totosai?”
“You need to get back here on the double Takahashi. You remember when you stumbled onto that crime scene, the one with the little girl?”
“What of it?” Sesshoumaru asked.
“Well, we’ve had two more murders in the same fashion. I’m putting you on the case since you were the first one on the scene.”
“I don’t do those types of cases. Try someone in the right unit.”
“Normally I would agree with you but I think your going to want to take this one. The interesting thing about it is that these murders are strikingly similar to some of the murders that were occurring in Japan until about six months ago. If my suspicions are correct it’s the same person and they crossed international lines.”
Sesshoumaru growled. “I’m busy now old man, I don’t give a shit.”
“Well that’s too bad so just shut up and listen to what I’m telling you pup!”
Sesshoumaru shut his mouth and listened. Totosai was an old friend of his fathers as well as his boss. Totosai was at least two thousand years his fathers senior and an incredibly wise youkai. The problem with wise youkai is they were stubborn and always thought they were right. In fact, Totosai never listened to anyone other than himself. The unfortunate thing about that was…. Totosai almost always was right. Sesshoumaru knew that he should listen, but right now he was just not in the mood. He bit his tongue and listened to the old geezer rant anyway.
“Apparently this case was also being worked on in Japan. I think the team who was working on it there would be a great asset to our investigation, I’m going to contact the Japanese police department and see if we can’t work it out.”
“That’s fine Totosai, but put somebody else on the case. I ain’t doing it.”
“Oh yes you are pup, I want you on a flight back over here tomorrow. I expect you back in the office the day after that. End of discussion. You’ll thank me for this one day.”
With that, Totosai hung up and left Sesshoumaru listening to the dial tone.
Sesshoumaru glared down at the phone in his hand in silent rage. Oh how he so badly wanted to just crush it in between his claws. He didn’t care what Totosai said, he wasn’t going anywhere without Rin, not now, not ever.
Sesshoumaru’s head snapped up at the sound of the door opening. He sucked in a breath, willing Rin to step inside. Pleading to whatever gods there were in the heavens to have her walk through that door. His heart began to pound rapidly, like a bird trapped in a cage. He stood there, chest heaving, mouth dry. His body trembled with the desire to rip the door off its hinges to see her standing there, smiling up at him the way she used to when they were children.
*Rin*
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Rin walked back into the main office of the sex crimes unit, laughing loudly with Kouga at her side. Kouga always did anything he could to make her feel better, even if that did include letting her beat the hell out of him in the training area of the precinct. They both walked into the office, clothes disheveled and sweaty, but very happy.
The two partners chatted under their breaths about the other people in the office. When Kouga made a remark about the filing girls new hairdo Rin couldn’t help but laugh. It did look an awful lot like a bee hive.
She was just about to her office when a younger officer stopped her. Rin motioned for Kouga to go on ahead. He nodded and walked to his office, but not before Rin saw him pick up his cell and begin to talk animatedly with someone one the other end.
“Yo’ Hiten! Whats going on?” Were the last words Rin heard before the door to his office slammed shut.
The officer that stopped her was young, his first year on the job. Still a newbie, but he tried hard.
“Rin, there’s a man waiting for you in your office. He said he was an old friend and needed to speak with you.”
Her eyes narrowed and she looked at the younger officer in irritation.
“That’s why we have a waiting room. You never, ever let someone into my office without my permission. I have filing cabinets of undisclosed information on cases in there. Did it ever occur to you that the “old friend” could be a reporter?!”
“No, ma’am. It didn’t I’m sorry. I was just trying to help I-“
Rin didn’t give him a chance to explain further as she stormed down the hall and to her office, fully prepared to give her so called “old friend” a piece of her mind.
Yanking open the door to her office she stepped inside and froze, staring into the face of the boy, no, the man she never thought she would see again. She could feel tears beginning to sting her eyes as they watered, but she refused to let them fall.
She barely whispered his name in shock.
“Sesshoumaru.”
