THIS IS A CALL
CHAPTER THREE
A Shoulder To Lean On
Kagome took in a deep breath and found that Sesshomaru was too close for comfort. ‘What in the world is he doing to me?’ she thought to herself.
“Can I ask you a question…Ka-go-me?” Sesshomaru asked.
Kagome felt chills go through her body at the sound of his very voice. “S…Sure.” she said in a shaky, uncertain voice.
Sesshomaru took a deep breath that Kagome felt in the deepest part of her soul. “What happened to the sweet, innocent Kagome that everyone loves and adores?” he said while looking deep into her eyes.
In that instant Kagome hated Sesshomaru with every single fiber in her being. ‘How dare he ask me that? Out of all the things he could have asked, it’s that. As if I wasn’t sweet and innocent still.’ She moved so fast that Sesshomaru didn’t have time to defend himself.
She slapped him so hard it left a red hand print on his left cheek. “How dare you assume I wasn’t still innocent and sweet? I am still that girl you first met so many years ago Sesshomaru. Things changed though and I actually had to get a back bone. I couldn’t depend on anyone…anymore!” Kagome yelled as she felt anger she never felt before.
She was angry at her grandfather for passing on before she was ready. She was mad at her mother for having cancer and dying before her time. She was angry at the kami for taking so much of her life away from her. But most of all she was angry that there was nothing she could do to help.
“Why can’t you depend on anyone anymore?” Sesshomaru asked, despite the anger rolling off the girl in his arms.
He wanted to know the real reason for her odd behavior the last couple of years.
Kagome stared into Sesshomaru’s golden eyes as tears fell from her brown ones. “They always leave me alone.” she couldn’t remember crying in front of someone before, not like this. She couldn’t stop the tears as they fell.
The built up sorrow replaced the anger and she broke far more than before. She didn’t care that the male in front of her was Sesshomaru she didn’t care that he could kill her for just looking at him wrong. She really didn’t care that she was crying like a little baby. She fell into his arms and let him hold her tight against him.
Sesshomaru felt the sorrow inside of Kagome and it damn near broke his heart. To have such a creature like her this heartbroken, it should have been a crime. ‘Damn since when am I the caring one?’ he thought to himself.
He looked down at the top of Kagome’s head and smiled to himself. ‘Since someone actually started needing me. Though she may not realize it, she really does need someone that’s there for her.’
Sesshomaru picked her up and went over to the rocks in the center of the pond/lake. He got comfortable and let Kagome sit in his lap.
“Tell me what eats at your heart so much Kagome.” Sesshomaru whispered.
“They always die, even though I don’t wish them to, they leave me. My grandfather died, now my mom is sick with cancer, you wouldn’t know what that is yet, but she’s dying slowly and painfully. I don’t want her to die. I love her so much.”
Sesshomaru holds her closer to him, feeling sorrow for the young girl. ‘I wish there was something I could do, but there’s not.’
Sesshomaru decided that the only thing he could do, was to be there for Kagome. To be the shoulder she cried on, the man with the soaked clothing, because she had to slobber on it as well as her tears.
After awhile Kagome fell asleep in Sesshomaru’s arms. Sesshomaru grinned, ‘She didn’t even notice that I am completely naked.’
He set her down while he dressed and then he gently dressed her. He picked her up bridal style and carried her back to camp.
Before he arrived he looked at the stars in the deep dark sky and the only thoughts in his head were, ‘I wonder what tomorrow will bring.’
