Love and Pain
A/N: Hello! Wow, I really didn’t think that people would actually like this fic. I was a bit worried about it, but hey, if you all like it, then that’s cool. Right now, I’m sick, so if things don’t make sense, then I’m sorry. My head hurts and I haven’t updated yet. So here we go. Please, R&R
Chapter Two: Love and Pain
Kagome stood in the club, the sound of the music practically making her deft. Her friend’s danced with different guys, but Kagome on the other hand just watched. Her mind was with a certain yokai.
Last she saw him, when she was leaving of course, he had a soft, yet sad look in his eyes. It was as if he was remembering something in his past that pained him so. Maybe it was her words? Or maybe her company bothered him. Then again, if she asked Inuyasha about it, he would probably ask, no demand her why she wanted to know and then proceed to tell her that she shouldn’t be worrying about the enemy, and just focus on the jewel shards.
Kagome sighed as she continued to think about Sesshomaru. When they had first met, she thought of him as a jerk. A cold hearted jerk who cared about no one but himself. From what she had seen, he didn’t even care if Jaken died or not. Or that’s what she thought. Then he saw how well he took care of Rin. How he acted like her adoptive father. He protected her and made sure no harm came to her. After the incident with Inuyasha’s father’s third sword, she began to think less of him as a cold hearted jerk, and even began to respect him. Of course she never voiced it to Inuyasha. He would though a fit about it and they would get into another one of their fights. That’s all they seemed to be doing as of late. Arguing over something weather or not it was bit or small they fought. Their arguments went from what they were eating that morning, to if they should continuing searching for Naraku during the night. It was getting to the point that she was just tempted to leave and find the shards with someone else. She knew for a fact that Kouga would be more then happy to oblige.
Once more, a sigh escaped her lips. Maybe even Sesshomaru would look for the shards with her. Kami only knew that he was more tolerable then Inuyasha was. More blood thirsty maybe, but defiantly easier to talk to. But what they talked about made Kagome wonder. Why did he ask her if she loved Inuyasha? Why did he really care about it? And did he ever love someone before? Kagome instantly began to think about what kind of person Sesshomaru would fall in love with. Of course she would be a yokai and very pretty. Maybe not just as pretty as he was, but good enough for him. She would definitely have to be strong, but loving. After all, Kagome was sure that Sesshomaru would throw out Rin just because some yokai woman would demand it. He would probably want some kind of woman who would do what he said. Then again, Sesshomaru probably wanted a woman that defiantly wasn’t her.
“Kagome,” Eri said, walking up to her. “You keep sighing a spacing out on us. Will you stop? I mean, we did drag you here to have fun, not to mope around.”
Kagome blinked and looked over at her friend, completely forgetting the fact that one, she was with her friends, and two, she was still at a club.
“Sorry Eri.” Said Kagome with a laugh. “I just have a lot on my mind you know. School and things like that.”
Eri gave her a look before pulling Kagome over to the bar and ordering them some sodas. “Okay Kagome, I’m your friend and I notice a lot of things. So out with it. What’s so wrong that it’s taking your mind off of clubbing? I mean, you love coming here and dancing!”
The teen sighed and took a drink of her soda.
“Is it about that jealous boyfriend of yours?”
“He’s not my boyfriend.” Kagome whispered softly. “He never saw me like that. I mean, sure I told him I loved him, but Inuyasha didn’t care. After all, it was always about Kikyo. He wants revenge because they were wronged. But even though she’s dead, I’m still nothing.” She took another drink. “I ran into his older half brother yesterday.”
Eri choked on her drink. “Are you talking about the one who hated Inuyasha and wants to kill him?”
Kagome nodded. “Except this time, he was nice to me. He asked me some questions that kinda hurt. But the thing was, when he asked me those questions, they seemed like he was asking me out of experience. When I had to leave, he gave me this look that… well Eri, it hurt me a lot. Like I ached to ease that pain inside of him. In some way, I guess I just want to help him out and maybe even get to know him better.”
Eri gave her friend a look before smiling. “If you ask me Kagome, you’re falling in love with him. Though I think he’s a bit more controlling then Inuyasha is. After all, you told us that he was really violent.”
“You see, that’s what took me by surprise!” Kagome sighed once more. “I really think he’s got some hidden past that hurts him deeply. Maybe that’s why he’s so cold and harsh.” That’s when it hit her what her friend said at first. “Eri!” She practically screamed. “I’m not in love with him!”
Eri burst out laughing. “I was wondering if you were going to catch that or not. After all, I did say that first.” She patted her friend’s shoulders and gave her a small push. “You go on home Kagome. I’ll tell the other girls that you weren’t feeling well.”
Kagome smiled brightly and hugged her tightly. “Thanks Eri. I’m sorry for being an eyesore all night.” With that she took off.
**
She left that night to the past. Her mind was made up. She would look at Inuyasha and demand him to pick her or Kikyo. She promised herself a long time ago that she wasn’t going to do this, but there was only so much she could take from him.
“Kagome, you’re here early.” Miroku said in surprise as he watched her climb out of the well. It almost sounded like he was nervous about something.
“Where is Inuyasha?” She practically demanded.
Miroku looked around as if something was wrong. “He… ran off somewhere. But don’t you think your home a bit too early? I mean, you two just did get into a fight.”
“Miroku!” Shippo called. He stopped short as he saw Kagome. Instantly the little kitsune’s attention moved to Kagome. “Your back!” He cried out, hugging her as tight as he could.
Kagome smiled softly as she hugged him back. “Shippo, can you tell me where Inuyasha went?”
The boy blinked. “Yea, He went off to the woods to see Kikyo.”
Two things happened right then. Miroku sighed and rolled his eyes, and Kagome looked like she was going to murder someone.
Kagome handed Shippo over to Miroku and began to head to the woods. “Stay there you two.” She said softly. “Don’t follow me.”
Already she felt numb. Oh how she didn’t want to go into those woods and find him in her arms. She wanted to find Inuyasha telling Kikyo that he didn’t love her anymore and that she should pass on. She wanted to hear him tell Kikyo that he loved Kagome, not her. But deep inside, Kagome knew that wasn’t going to be like that.
As she heard voices, she instantly began walking with care so she wouldn’t be heard. Then again, when Inuyasha was with /her/ an elephant could go though the trees and he wouldn’t care.
“Inuyasha,” She heard Kikyo say. “I shouldn’t be here.”
Kagome hid behind a tree as she watched Inuyasha grab Kikyo and hold her close.
“But you are. Which means you still have feelings for me Kikyo.”
Her heart was breaking with his words.
“I…I do Inuyasha. You know I do. But I cant be with you Inuyasha. You have Kagome with you anyway. If you continue to say that you love me, you’ll break her heart one day.”
“I don’t care Kikyo.” Inuyasha whispered so softly that Kagome had to strain to hear. “She’s nothing more then a shard detector to me. Nothing more then that. Really, she’s nothing more then a burden to me. I love you and only you. Please, just stay with me.”
That was enough for her. Her heart couldn’t take it anymore. Taking a small step, a twig broke under her foot.
“Whose there?!” Inuyasha shouted.
Kagome closed her eyes tightly, trying to block out on coming tears. So much for an elephant going though. She came out to the open, not caring about the look of shock that Inuyasha had on his face.
“Kagome…” He said softly. “How much did you hear?”
“What does it matter?” Her voice was full of hurt and tears already began to fall down her face. “After all, I’m nothing to you Inuyasha. Just someone to find shards for you. That’s it. You knew I loved you, but you just ignored me and went after her.” Finally the look of hurt was replaced by anger. “She’s dead Inuyasha! She’s made out of nothing more then clay and graveyard soil! I’m a living being and standing right here in front of you. I bet you she cant even cry. I’m a living, breathing human being. I accepted you as you were. I didn’t make fun of you or cal you weak. But you see me as nothing more then a replacement. Do you know how much its hurts to know that I’m second place to a dead women? How would you feel if you were in my position?!” She ended up screaming in the end.
“Kagome I…”
“No!” She shouted. “I don’t care Inuyasha. I just don’t fucking care anymore! Be with your dead woman. She can see shards too. So have her find them for you. I’m going off alone. I don’t want to talk to you, see you, or have anything to do with you anymore. You can go to hell with her for all I care!” With that, Kagome ran off, tears falling quickly down her face.
Her heart was shattered and she felt nothing more then pain though out her whole being. She would never love again, nor let her heart be taken by another. She felt so betrayed by him. And Inuyasha had the gull to say she was nothing more then a shard detector?!
Even though it was dark, she continued to run. The only thing she saw was the flash from lighting, and the pounding of thunder over head. Tree branches smacked her body, cut her skin, and tore at her clothing. But she didn’t care. Her foot caught on a root, and with a cry, she fell to the ground just as the rain began to fall in heavy sheets. She didn’t hear the sound of it though. She could only hear the sounds of her heart breaking apart piece by piece. She couldn’t even feel the pain in her twisted ankle.
“What’s this?” A yokai purred, coming across her. “A little human who cant run. God, I was getting hungry in this dreadful rain.”
Kagome raised her head to see what looked like a cat yokai above her. If she had the energy, she would probably chuckle at her predicament. Normally she would have screamed for Inuyasha to come and save her, but she knew he wouldn’t. No one would save her this time. She just hoped that Inuyasha would go to her time and tell her mother what happened to her. Hopefully her mother wouldn’t grieve too much. Sure she had regrets, but there was nothing she could do about it. The last thing she heard as the world became black, was the scream of the yokai.
**
“I believe its going to rain milord.” Jaken said, looking up at the clouded sky. “Should I find us shelter for the night?”
Sesshomaru gave a small nod. He didn’t want Rin out in the rain when she could easily get sick. There were only a couple incidents when she got sick. And each time he didn’t know how to help her. It did help having Jaken around sometimes. After all, he knew how to treat a sickness. It seemed a bit odd to him that the toad knew how to treat humans. He did hate them just as much as Sesshomaru did.
A soft breeze ruffled his hair, making him sigh some. He knew that smell. It was the smell of his half brother Inuyasha. That fool always was a waist of air. The only reason why he hadn’t killed him yet was because someone would interfere. One person in particular was that Miko that hung around him. He believed her name was Kagome if he recalled correctly.
Once more, a cold breeze came though, this time carrying Kagome’s scent as well. But it was different this time. It seemed to be filled with distress. But why should he care? After all, she was just as much as a nuisance as his brother was.
“My lord, I found a cave nearby.” Jaken said softly, seeing his lord’s tense face.
“Take Ah-Un and Rin there. I’ll be there shortly.” He said, heading off in the direction Kagome was heading.
He didn’t know why he decided to follow her, but her scent was pulling away from Inuyasha. His mind slowly began to pull back to their conversation earlier. She reminded him of her. Her scent was different, and even their looks. But the way she talked, how she held herself, it just reminded him of her.
Then the rain began to fall.
He killed the yokai as soon as he found it, but when he looked down at Kagome’s body, his body went cold. The temptation to leave her there was rising by the second. Why should he save this human? After all, she was Inuyasha’s problem, not his. But even though the rain, he could smell her tears. She was just like him. Betrayed, hurt, and in pain. With a sigh, Sesshomaru picked her up with ease and headed back to where he could only guess Rin and Jaken were. When the rain cleared and she was fine, he would tell her to leave.
