Chapter Three

Still Don't Own Anything!!!!!!!

He had been patrolling his lands as usual, looking for any sign of the vile half-breed Naraku. He had gone too far and Sesshoumaru was tired of hearing his name. He did not deserve the fear he instilled in the people of this land. He had grown in power, not by his own merits, but by the help of a human trinket. And that was another thing that needed to go. All the problems of the last five years had been caused by the useless thing. Well, most of the problems had been caused by the Shikon no Tama. The others had been caused by his hanyou half brother and his mismatched pack. The loss of his arm being the main grievance.

But, if Sesshoumaru was honest with himself, and he would not lie to himself, he had been at fault as much as Inuyasha. The first lesson his great father had taught him was to never underestimate his opponent and that is exactly what he had done. And, he had not just underestimated Inuyasha, but the bitch that was with him. He had tried to kill her but that didn’t work. And she had the audacity to give the whelp the sword just to hurt his pride!! That had been unacceptable. Sesshoumaru had been angry and he let the anger control him. And he had paid with the loss of his arm.

There had been many accounts after this one that the miko had interfered. She didn’t seem to know her place. As the years went on, Sesshoumaru had learned a great deal about the futuristic priestess, if her companions were to be believed. She came from 500 years in the future, she was untrained, and she seemed to be the most powerful of her kind. He had heard this all before but never once had he seen her use her powers for anything other than charging her arrows. It was preposterous to believe that she was the most powerful of her kind. He had power, he knew power, and she did not have the power that was needed to labeled as such.

As Sesshoumaru continued with his internal musings, a sharp scent hit his senses full force. Naraku! Sesshoumaru turned to where the smell was coming from and flew to the source. As the scenery below changed, he wondered what had finally pushed the hanyou out of hiding. He was about to land when his inner beast screamed at him Danger. Sesshoumaru had a second, no more than an eye blink of time to jump back up into the air, before the entire area under his feet was purified. The power! Where was it coming from? As previously stated, he knew power, and he knew no one that could give off this much. The pureness was something he had never in his long existence encountered. He had run afoul his share of miko, being as strong as he was, but nothing like this. Could this be what had brought Naraku out of hiding?

As the blast subsided, Sesshoumaru landed. In the middle of the clearing stood his brothers miko. As she looked at him, she fell, unconscious. Now, Sesshoumaru was not a creature of emotions. He had no need for them and believed they showed weakness. But, seeing her there and then realizing that she was the one to let go of so much raw power, well, he was surprised. He would have never believed it from her.

He started toward the miko but was stopped when he heard the laughter of his hated enemy.

“Why, Lord Sesshoumaru, long time no see.” stated Naraku.

“Indeed.” replied Sesshoumaru. “What have you done to the miko Naraku?”

“Nothing, yet.” Naraku stated with a laugh.

“Yet? Do you think Naraku, now that I am here that I will just let you take this being of power?”

Sesshoumaru moved his body between the miko and Naraku and in that second decided that for whatever reason, Naraku was not taking his half brothers woman. She was too powerful for either of them but he would be damned if he let Naraku take that power just to try and use it against him later. He put his hand on his sword and took a posture of defense.

“Sesshoumaru, do you really think you can stop me? Do you really want to try? Standing there in defense of a weak ningen onna. I would have thought more of you Sesshoumaru, but then again, you are your fathers son.”

These words sealed Naraku’s fate. Sesshoumaru attacked.
