Unforeseen Events

Chapter 3

Stepping outside into the refreshing cool breeze Kagome was greeted with the funniest site she had ever seen. There in the gardens was a girl holding a ring of flowers chasing around Sesshomaru’s retainer.

"Master Jaken, Master Jaken come back Rin wants to make you smell pretty." Shouting gleefully the little ruffled hair girl ran as fast has her chubby little legs could carry her. She could of been no more than six. The obnoxious little toad cried for mercy shrieking all the while for his great Sesshomaru to save him from the "little devil". Finally after a good chase Rin had manage to pin the toad down and place the necklace of flowers around his neck. "Rin make Master Jaken pretty!"

Clapping her hands excitedly this ‘Master Jaken’ begrudgingly kept the flower necklace on. For he knew that if he were to tare the necklace Rin had made him he would pay dearly by Sesshomaru. Upsetting Rin always equaled pain. The stupid little girl was more trouble than she was worth. As to why his great lord kept such an nuisance was beyond him. Constantly running around picking flowers leaving entire meadows bare in her wake. Even the butterflies shook in there wings when Rin came around. She was a terrible foe that was not to be taken lightly. He couldn’t remember how many times the sneaky devil had cover him with flowers while he slept. Waking up to such a stench and site was horrible enough but to have them piled all around you was a down right nightmare.

Having watched enough of the child’s innocent torture Kagome strolled out from behind the large garden fountain. "Hello Rin"

"Kagome-chan!!!" Flashing her a few of her missing teeth the little tot hurdled herself in to Kagome’s middle.

"Look Kagome Rin lost a tooth!" Smiling brightly the child eagerly awaited her response.

"Wow, Rin way to go! Did you put it under your pillow?" The child looked confused "Why would I do that" tilting her head sideways she continued on her endless prattle. "Master Jaken told Rin to throw away her disgusting tooth and said to never show him that again. But Rin wanted to keep it so Rin went to Sesshomaru-sama to show Rin’s tooth! Master Jaken tired to stop Rin, but Sesshomaru-sama kicked him in the head." She ended rather cheerfully.

Well that’s not something you expect everyday thought Kagome. I wonder what he did with the tooth? "Rin, what did Sesshomaru do with your tooth."

Positively bouncing with glee Rin pulled out a rather expensive looking piece of silk from her pocket and carefully unwrapped the contents inside. "See Kagome-chan Rin keep tooth. Sesshomaru-sama give Rin this pretty cloth to keep it in." Rin’s smile looked as though if she stretched any farther she would be in danger of tearing.

Examining the tooth with exaggerated interest she noticed how the deep blue silk had a silver crescent moon on the corner and Rin’s named neatly stitched in the opposite corner. "That’s a great tooth Rin. You be sure to put that under your pillow tonight."

"Why Kagome-chan."

"Because if you do the tooth fairy will come and take your tooth and replace it with a gift." She stated cheerfully. Truthfully she had no idea what she would give the child. In her time she got a dollar here she wasn’t exactly for sure what she could give her, best to keep it vague. She would have to speak with the ice prick about this.

"When will Rin see this tooth fairy?"

"Oh no Rin the tooth fairy comes when you are asleep and makes the switch"

"Rin doesn’t like the thought of strangers sneaking in her room." A horrified expression crossed Rin face as she thought of it.

Shocked into silence the miko was at a loss as how to respond. Thinking quickly she stated "The tooth fairy first comes to your…well Sesshomaru and ask permission to enter your room."

"K, Rin likes that. Sesshamaru-sama would kill anything that would harm Rin." Rin stated this as though it were written in stone. Suddenly smiling she leapt into Kagome’s arms and said rather quickly. "Rin will get two presents. See Rin has loose tooth." At this she began to wiggle her tooth with her tongue.

Hearing something thump to the ground Kagome quickly turned her head to see the little demon toad passed out cold and quickly waking.

Rin muffled giggles as she try to hold back her mirth. "Master Jaken gets ill when Rin wiggle her tooth. Master Jaken says to never wiggle Rin’s tooth and never in front of Sesshomaru-sama. But Sesshomaru-sama like Rin’s wiggly tooth." She chirped.

Unmasking his aura Sesshomaru let his presence be known. "Jaken take Rin inside to bathe I must speak with the miko." Scrambling to his feet the squat little toad coward at his lord’s boots saying "Yes master" and "right away master".

Once Rin and Jaken were out of sight Kagome lifted her gaze to match that of Sesshomaru’s. "Actually I wish to speak with you about something too."

"Out with it Miko" Throwing her a rather bored expression.

"Well quick reminder names Kagome, but anyway Rin has lost a tooth."

"This Sesshomaru is very aware."

"Yes but you see the tooth fairy comes in the middle of the night to little children’s rooms to.." She was interrupted by a rather feral snarl

"This Sesshomaru would kill this fairy who dares to touch what is his." He bit out.

Taken back the miko quickly explained herself. "No no you see the tooth fairy is you"

"You dare to call this Sesshomaru a fairy" His eyes began to bleed crimson. Stepping back she once again quickly tired to correct her mistake.

"No I’m not calling you a fairy. What I was trying to say is that in my time a so called fairy comes in the middle of the night and switches the tooth with a dollar. But you see there is no tooth fairy the tooth fairy really is just your mom or dad." Throwing her arms up in frustration. She took a much needed cleansing breath to soothe away her annoyance.

"So this Sesshomaru is to switch her tooth with a gift of some sorts." Nodding her head in approval the miko sat down on the fountain’s edge. "You will attend dinner with this Sesshomaru come tomorrow."
