The Taisho's attack
I'm sorry that it took so long to update (blushes). I'll try to update sooner. i had a little problem with my computer and internet didn't work until last night.
This is the first new chapter in a long time. I hope you like it!
Chap 3 The Taisho’s attack
Kagome was deeply immersed in her work when her phone rang. Without averting her eyes from the screen, she picked up the receiver.
“Higurashi.” Her voice sounded harsh on the other end due to her long afternoon of silence.
“Hello, Kagome. How are you this morning? I hope I’m not interrupting.”
A broad smile brightened Kagome’s face.
“Good morning Mr. Taisho Sr., You know your calls are always welcomed!” Somehow, perhaps due to her women’s intuition, she felt this wasn’t a courtesy call, so after a menial chat, she decided it was time to get straight to the point. This was a strategy that had never failed her when dealing with the man she so lovingly saw as a grandfather. “So, Mr. Taisho Sr., how can I help you?”
Taisho Sr. laughed, he loved the girl; she was always so perceptive!
“Please, call me Shoja, Kagome, you’ve certainly known me long enough, and I hope you can see me as more than an ordinary client. I was wondering if you would be free to have lunch with me today”
Kagome thoughtfully shifted the phone to her other ear, pressing the receiver tightly to her ear with her shoulder as she swung her chair around to check her appointment book. “Can you hold on for a second while I check my agenda?” For a short pause, all was silent except for the even breaths coming from Kagome. “Well, it looks like I’m free. I’d love to have lunch with you Taisho Sr., I mean Shoja.”
“Ok then, I’ll pick you up at one o’clock”
“See you then!”
She felt her mood lighten infinitesimally; she loved dining with the man. It wasn’t the first time they had eaten together, some of the time even Toga Taisho tagged along, making the dinner somewhat more enjoyable. She knew Naraku was never invited, and she made sure he never knew for fear of how he would react to being rejected.
“She accepted. I’ll ask her today. Are you coming Toga?” Shoja said with a grin as he hung up the phone and turned to the other occupants of the office. Toga gave a curt nod before they both turned their attention to the youngest and final man in the room. “What about you Sesshoumaru?” Shoja asked, breaking the silence.
“I can’t make it today. I have some appointments. However, I am sure I will be seeing her a lot in the future.” With that, he stood up and left the room.
Both men looked at each other. “What’s the matter with him? Apart from the fact that I think someone shoved a stick up his ass?” Shoja asked incredulously, arms crossed as he slouched against the mahogany wood of the desk. “I don’t know, but you know how he acts around people he isn’t properly acquainted to.” Toga replied with a disappointed shake of his head. “You mean people he doesn’t deem worth wasting a precious minute on?” The younger man sighed; his eldest son was so difficult at times; he had clearly failed in his education. Sesshoumaru was a very straight-forward man; however, he was always very intolerant to other people’s weaknesses; he often rejected people simply because they made minor errors.
“Do you think he sees Kagome as the type that climbs up the corporate ladder by spreading her legs?” Shoja asked casually. The younger man scowled; he never approved of the way his father expressed himself sometimes; he could be very rude. As he watched the old man laughing at, supposedly, what was supposed to be Sesshoumaru’s thoughts on Kagome, the younger man knew his eldest son wasn’t going to make things easy for the woman.

“I’m off for lunch Yura! I don’t think I’ll be back before two o’clock, but if I’m needed just call, OK?” The girl nodded in silent response, glancing up to flash Kagome a grin before turning back to the keyboard. Kagome left the building and headed to the restaurant where she was going to eat with Taisho. Later in the morning, the man had called to tell her he wouldn’t make it on time to pick her up and asked her to meet them at the restaurant instead.
She entered the restaurant where she often ate with them and the maitre showed her to the table where the men were already awaiting her arrival.
“My dear child, it is always a pleasure for these old eyes to see such a beautiful young lady! Please, sit down.” Mr Taisho Sr. flourished, pointing to a chair positioned right next to his. Kagome smiled sweetly; old Taisho always complimented her. She knew he liked behaving like a hentai, but his true nature held none of that spark. She greeted the other man before turning her attention to the menu placed before her. It was only a matter of minutes before the waiter soon returned and took their order.
They talked about many things, none of the topics even grazing the worn out topic of work. Soon though, they changed the subject turning right to the matter at hand.
“Kagome, we have known you for almost a year now. You are doing a wonderful job for us and I would hate to lose you.” Toga began slowly, thoughtfully. Kagome swallowed the bite of her lunch she had just put in her mouth, she didn’t like where things seemed to be heading.
“Don’t get me wrong, we don’t want to change to another company,” She sighed in relief, “but we would like to make a proposal we think you might find interesting.” The older man glanced at his son across the span of the table. “We need public relations in our company and you are the person we need.” The man went on with the details of the job while Kagome listened quietly. She liked what she was hearing; although, what they were offering was the opposite of her current job and she wasn’t sure she was prepared to for all it entitled. She was tempted to accept it because she got along so well with the men and wanted to get away from Naraku; however, she felt she owed her loyalties to Naraku because he had believed in her when nobody else did.
“Don’t think I don’t appreciate your offer; in fact, it’s very tempting, but I don’t think I am the right person for this job. I am not prepared to do such a job, and I have no experience at all.”
“We are not proposing this job to you because we are a couple of old, soft men who think you are an adorable young woman and want you around before we retire. We really believe you are what we need and we are certain you are prepared for this change. Even Sesshoumaru was impressed by you. I have to tell you, he will be your direct boss in case you accept, and although he is quite difficult to please, he gives his employees space in order to do their job and gives them ample responsibility. Just think about it, will you at least promise you will give it serious consideration?”
Kagome agreed to think on it and the rest of the lunch went smoothly. However, she couldn’t concentrate on her job the rest of the day. She had to admit, she loved the offer. She always liked working with people and deep inside she knew she could do the job.
On the other hand, she would have to work for Sesshoumaru, and she wasn’t sure she liked that particular idea. He was so cold and distant, and the way he had looked at her just the day before, she had felt so uncomfortable she wasn’t sure she could handle it every day.

“Hey grandfather, dad. How was lunch with Higurashi?”
Both men looked at each other. Toga gave his son a forlorn look.
“I don’t think she will accept. She doesn’t think she is good for the job, nor does she believe she has the proper experience for it, but we are sure she is the person you need, son. I think she doesn’t want to disappoint us.”
“Nonsense son.” Toga shot Shoja a questioning glance. “What bothers the girl is the possibility of working for my icicle of a grandson.” Sesshoumaru gave his grandfather a dark glare. “See what I mean? Just what I’m saying. Can’t you be more pleasant?” Sesshoumaru sighed and ran his fingers through his soft; lengthen tresses that shined unnatural silver in the gleam of the sunlight.
“Do you think she is that good?” Both men nodded instantaneously. Sesshoumaru stood, his back facing the men, seeming to consider something before turning around to face them. “Well, if you think it might help, I’ll talk to the girl and tell her what I need for this job. Is that better?” Both men gave each other a knowing look before each giving the younger man a pleased nod.
“You won’t regret it son. I think yesterday was a good example of how she deals with people.” Toga marvelled.
“Especially under stress.” Shoja added. Sesshoumaru gave his grandfather a questioning look, and the older man chuckled. “How do you think you made her feel yesterday with all of those scrutinizing looks you shot her throughout the entire meeting? I don’t think she was feeling very comfortable, even though she still gave the presentation without a hitch. Don’t you think?”
Sesshoumaru had to accept they had a valid point. He knew he could make people quiver in fear with just one look; however, the girl had kept a calm and smiling façade, delivered a wonderful exposition, all the while preserving a warm environment.
“Okay, tomorrow I have a meeting in the same building, so afterwards I’ll drop by to have a private talk with her.” With that said, Sesshoumaru left for his office, his mind deep in though, the girl better be that good or they would hear him. He just hoped she wasn’t the “typical” ambitious girl.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Kagome was focused on her work when her cell phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Higurashi?”
“This is…?”
“Taisho Sesshoumaru.” He noted smugly that the line went silent.
“How can I help you Sesshoumaru-san?”
“I believe my father and my grandfather talked to you yesterday about a job offer, am I correct?”
“Yes it is, but I already told them that I’m not…”
“I’m not sure they correctly transmitted the profile I need. Do you think it’s possible that we could meet this evening so I can explain it with more accuracy?”
“Well… yes, of course.” She replied aloud. ‘Not that I’m willing to feel frozen by his looks’ she thought blandly.
“Fine. I have an appointment in the building where you work; I might be free by 7 p.m. I know you are off by that time, but if you could wait for me until then I would be able to give you a better explanation of the type of person required. How does that sound?”
‘Who knew the man was capable of such a long speech!’ she thought in surprise, “Sure, I’ll wait for you in my office. You know where it is, don’t you?” she replied, finally, after a moment, finding her tongue.
“Yes, I believe so.”
The line went dead, the only signal that Kagome was given to state that the conversation was over. She sighed returning the phone to its cradle. The guy didn’t believe in cheerfulness or making people comfortable. If she ever gave the job a chance, she knew he wouldn’t make it easy. However, she felt she owed the old Taishos, she felt so attached to those men that she was actually going to give Sesshoumaru the benefit of the doubt.
