Chapter Three: Old Flames and New Games
Chapter Three: Old Flames and New Games
*BEEP* “Hey, it’s me Inuyasha. I just wanted to see how everything is going, heard you were getting a new job and I was just curious…” *BEEP*
Inuyasha immediately deleted the message. “You were just curious if I could loan you any money to support your coke habit. Sorry Kikyo I don’t even have enough money to pay my car maintenance bills. What makes you think I have money to throw away on you?” Inuyasha didn’t wonder at him speaking to himself. Where Kikyo was concerned nothing surprised him.
A year ago Valentine’s Day, Inuyasha and Kikyo had gotten married. They were a couple of college students who had the massive hots for one another. They had been dating for a few months and on the spur of the moment, had decided to marry. In front of the magistrate in Dalesburg, they said their vows and were husband and wife. They moved into Inuyasha’s apartment that very day, and Inuyasha finally got to know the real Kikyo.
The next day, Kikyo woke at an ungodly hour. She told Inuyasha she had some running to do. When he awoke four hours later, she still wasn’t home. Inuyasha waited for another few hours then called her cell phone.
“Hey Kikyo, is everything alright?”
“Oh, yes. It’s all fine, I just ran into a snag. I should be home in another hour.”
With that she hung up the phone. When she returned home some hours later, Inuyasha didn’t say a word. Later that week he found out she had been at a court hearing, on charges of possession of cocaine. From the first day, she had been lying, and he kept defending her.
The months rolled by, and on August 28, everything hit the fan. Inuyasha had come home from class an hour early to find Kikyo doing lines of coke with two men and another woman. She looked up, shocked that she had been caught; Inuyasha had calmly walked out the door, and never looked back. He moved back in with his mother, who allowed him to on the condition that he have no further contact with his wife. He filed for divorce the next day. The third day he applied for the open cashier position at Ace, he was hired the fourth day. Three weeks later, he had applied for low income housing and gotten his apartment. It took him a few minutes to move in as his apartment was directly across the hall from his mothers.
He was continually receiving calls from Kikyo asking him to reconsider, she refused to sign the papers and she would not allow him to get any of his belongings out of their apartment. Her father had let him in long enough to get his clothes, but Kikyo didn’t even let him have his father’s portrait. Meanwhile, Inuyasha was paying his bills and trying to get on with his life.
Finally, the following Valentine’s Day, Kikyo broke down; she called Inuyasha saying that this was her final message. She had signed the papers and wished him peace; she hoped he would be happy with whatever else he decided to do. That same day, Kikyo was arrested for possession of cocaine with intent for resale; she was booked twenty minutes after she signed the papers for Inuyasha.
With the help of some powerful friends, Kikyo got out of the charges, since then she had been an even worse thorn in Inuyasha’s side. An ex-wife with a habit was the worst type to have. Thoughts of the terrible day at work snapped him out of his reverie.
He could hardly wait for the following Monday when he would go for his second interview and get scheduled for training.

Inuyasha was once again wearing his suit as he answered all the questions the Youkai woman had for him. When she had finished, she announced he would start training the following Monday at Four pm. The training class ran four to midnight. Inuyasha made a note to tell Hank he needed evenings off.
On that same note, Inuyasha stopped into the store on his way home to talk to Tim and let him know the good news.
“Hey Inu, that’s great!” Tim gushed as he gave Inuyasha a firm handshake. “I told you to go apply there; you are worth so much more than that. Now that I got you to follow one of my pieces of advice, I have to give you another one.”
Inuyasha chuckled. “What is that Tim?”
Tim smiled and tapped his finger to his chin. “Well, a buddy of mine has a daughter that will be in that same training class. She’s really shy and I wondered if you’d look out for her?”
Inuyasha didn’t like that glint in Tim’s eye. “I’ll keep an eye out… what’s her name?”
“Kagome Higurashi, she’s a real nice girl, just shy and withdrawn. She’s a graduate student, having a hard time getting her Masters degree in teaching. She keeps saying she has a mental block. I think she’s afraid of moving on. Well, just keep an eye out will you?”
“I’ll do that Tim.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes and groaned, as Hank walked in the door.
Hank gave Tim a dirty look. “Don’t you have something else you need to be doing?”
Tim quickly returned to pricing shotgun shells and Hank leveled his gaze on Inuyasha. “Can we help you with something?” Hank asked in that snide tone of his.
Inuyasha refused to be intimidated. “Yes, actually. I needed to see you about some changes to my availability. I was recently hired by another company. My training starts next Monday and runs four to midnight. I need to be out of here by three thirty Monday through Friday. Is that a problem?”
Hank scoffed. “No, I suppose not, Karen has been asking for more hours and she can’t work day shift. Just leave a note on my desk. Anything else, like your two weeks notice?”
Inuyasha laughed aloud at Hank’s attitude. “No, I need the money for my car… I’ll try to work both as long as I can. If that changes I’ll let you know.” Inuyasha headed for the door, “See you later Karen, Jane, Tim. I’ll be in at seven tomorrow morning.”
Hank’s jaw dropped, no one had ever stood up to him like that before, and he did not like it one bit.
A/N: Okay, I am FAMOUS for time jumping, just to get to important plot points, the start of the next chapter will be on the day Inuyasha reports for his first day at his new job. If this bothers anyone kindly let me know. Also to respond to my reviews:

kookookitty: No way, I live about 60 miles from the burg and I KNOW how terrible it is. Trust me I’m originally from Nashville TN where there is ALWAYS something to do. Hope you like the new chap and that it keeps the theme.
InuyashasGypsyGurl: I’m glad you like, this is kinda Inuyasha thrown into my life so I HOPE it’s believable… Hope you like the new chap and that it is still on your list.
Next chapter should be up as soon as permission is obtained to enter some new characters, when doing a real world story like this you want to include real people and that requires asking.
