Just a Little Rivalry

Chapter 3

--At Kagome’s Room--

“Put me down NOW!!!” Kagome screeched at her captor. He did as she asked, and she turned around to look into her best friends ice blue eyes.

“Koga!?! What the hell?” she demanded when she realized that he had to have been following her. ‘Oh, and here I was worried about patching things up with him.’ She sourly thought to herself.

“Kagome! He was trying to-I didn’t want him to…” he trailed off trying to form his thoughts and outrage into words. ‘He was feeling her up without her permission, and she gets mad at me for saving her! I don’t think so. I saw her first. She is my friend and part of my pack, and that makes her mine. I protect what belongs to me. What if he hurt her? What if he forced her to do something that she did not want to do? She would not be my Kagome anymore. She would be sad.’ His thoughts and worries rolled around in his mind as he contemplated all that could happen to his friend that he cared so much for.

“Koga, I let it go too far. We both were just caught up. He was pulling back and stopping because I said no,” she took a deep breath continuing on, determined to get the answers that she needed. “Why were you following me? Why do you two dislike each other? What are you so worried about?” She looked deep into his eyes trying to find the answers as he cleared his throat, preparing to give her the answers that she wanted.

“Kags, I don’t want anything to happen to you. If I wasn’t around, you could get hurt. I really care and would have to kill anybody that hurt you. I’ve known Inu Yasha for most of my life. I am really close to his older brother, Sesshomaru. To be honest, it wasn’t just me following you tonight. Sesshomaru and a couple of my friends were taking turns watching you two for the whole night. He used to date a girl that favors you quite strongly. Kikyo turned up in the ER after she and Inu Yasha broke up. I don’t know what happened and neither does anybody else. She survived but has had to remain at an institution since then, if you call that survival. We think Inu Yasha may have caused her injuries, but nobody knows for sure. She can’t tell anyone what happened. Talking to her is like talking to a three year old. She babbles and can ask for things that she needs, but she never makes her thoughts clear enough for others to really comprehend. I could never live with myself if that happened to you. I don’t trust him.” He finished his explanation in a rush as he watched her reaction closely.

“Why do you think that Inu Yasha had anything to do with Kikyo’s injuries?” she asked, still processing the information that had poured out of her best friend. ‘Could he really have done anything so horrible that a girl had to be locked away from the world? What could have happened?’

“It may be coincidental, but he does have a temper when he doesn’t get his way. Like I said, I have known him for a very long time. I may be closer to his age in years, but he is very immature. Just please, stay away from him. At least don’t be alone with him,” he pleaded.

Kagome heard his request as an order. ‘Double dating may be one thing, but he will not tell me who I can and cannot date and be alone with. He is the one who snatched me, manhandled me across campus and followed me! “Koga! I like Inu Yasha! You just said yourself that there was no undeniable proof that he hurt Kikyo. I know that if he had hurt anybody else, you would have told me. If I want to date him, I will. I am a grown woman and can defend myself.”

No sooner than she had finished her short speech to Koga than the door behind them creaked open to reveal three astonished faces.

Sango and Miroku were standing in the doorway holding the bag from Taco Bell. Next to them was an ecstatic hanyou who had heard Kagome admit that she like him.

“Hey. Are we interrupting something or are ya’ll almost done. We brought food, care to stay, Koga?” Sango said, trying to diffuse the atmosphere.

“Uh… Sure, I’ll stay,” Koga said realizing that he would need an excuse to stay however long Inu Yasha did.

“Why are you trying to convince her to stay away from me with that shit about Kikyo? I didn’t do anything to her. We broke up; I went home and shot some basketball. Next thing I know, I’m being called down about some crap. She had been cheating on me. I knew. I could smell the other prick on her every time I just showed up at her house I ran into her. You had absolutely no right say or do anything just because she is your friend!” Inu Yasha raged Koga’s way.

Kagome just knew that the two were about to come to blows soon. ‘Oh shit… I need to do something. This is not going to be pretty. Sango and Miroku, I am so going to need your help.’ She frantically started to get Sango’s attention with her eyes. She looked between Sango and Koga trying to convey the message. As Sango slowly crept toward Koga, Kagome made her way carefully toward Inu Yasha. Miroku noticed Sango’s movements and followed along to stand in between to the two, blocking the glares that were being exchanged.

“Koga, Inu Yasha, calm down. Nobody wants to see a fight, especially one in the middle of the girls’ room. I am also sure that you two would not want to have to clean the place up after you finish. You know that they can and will make you do that, too,” Miroku reasoned.

Thankfully both started to calm down.

Kagome was thankful towards her new GOOD friend for calming the two down. She decided to get them to relax. “Let’s sit down, eat and watch a movie. K?” she asked trying to get people comfortable. She moved towards the beds and shifted pillows around and cleared off the desk for the food to go. Sango at the same time pulled out their DVD’s and started to read off titles. “We have both of The Ring’s, Freddy ‘VS’ Jason, hmmm… The Whole Nine Yards, there are quite a few. What’s you preference?” she asked turning around to look at the three guys.

Miroku spoke up, not wanting to see any violence after the two that were still on either side of him and nearly exploded, “The Whole Nine Yards please. Something funny is just perfect.”

Everybody else just nodded agreeing with him.

Sango and Miroku curled up on her bed while Kagome sat between Koga and Inu Yasha on her bed. The movie started after everyone sat down with their tacos.

As everyone became engrossed in the movie, Koga kept glancing at Kagome who was leaning her head on Inu Yasha’s shoulder and had her legs draped over Koga’s lap. He caught Inu Yasha’s gaze while he was looking at the picture next to him. Kagome was slowly drifting off to sleep on top of both of them. Once they noticed this, they looked towards Sango and Miroku. He was reclined with his back on the wall, holding Sango and sound asleep. She just grinned back at the two guys. He apparently was keeping his hands on the ok spots, her waist and holding her hand. The two guys just looked back at the TV screen and allowed themselves to relax completely. Soon the group of five was asleep.

--Sunday Morning--

“Ahhh”

“Ohh”

“Shit”

“What the hell?”

“It’s asleep!”

“I can’t move.”

The five tried to get up, stretch and move around. Obviously, sleeping in weird positions draped across each other didn’t agree with anybody.

The three guys looked around and started laughing. “Hey, got to sleep with them on the first date, Inu Yasha,” Miroku got out around his giggles. Kagome and Sango directed a glare towards them while holding back their humor. Finally, it got the better of them as they all just started laughing.

Inu Yasha looked at Kagome and smiled. “Hey, Kagome… What are you doing today?”
