The rest of the day just seemed to be getting hotter with each passing second. A drop of sweat slinked its way down Kagome’s back as she finished packing. A car horn honked to let its presence known and she took a peek out of second story window.

“Mom! The limo is here!” She called down the stairs.

“Okay! Make sure you close that window of yours leaving it open just a crack so it’s not so stuffy when we get back tomorrow!” Her mother hollered back.

“I’m doing that now!” Although she was still taking clothes out and repacking others, trying to decide just what exactly to take with her to Sesshoumaru’s place.

The limo driver was walking up to the door to help with the luggage just as Ceri opened it.

“Oh, you’re so sweet, thank you so very much. We’re just waiting on my daughter.”

“No problem ma’am, its part of my job.” He bent down to pick up two of the suitcases.

‘What the hell, it feels like she’s got a ton of rocks in here.’

Ceri was hurriedly shoving out Souta and Gramps. Kagome soon followed stomping down the stairs, dragging her wheeled suitcase behind her.

‘Man, they sure are eager to get to some cool air.’ She shrugged her shoulders.

‘Oh well, I don’t blame them.’

She let the limo driver take her luggage from her so he could load it into the trunk.

‘Oh my God, I think her one bag is twice as heavy as both her mothers’.’

Kagome slipped in next to her mother who was already busy trying to keep both Souta and Gramps from playing with each and every button and door they could get their hands on. The car moved with the shutting of the trunk and the driver finally got back into the car. He smiled when he saw both of the Higurashi men playing around in the back. He used his intercom.

“Is everyone ready to go?”

Ceri answered, “Yes, thank you.”

He rolled up the darkened divider screen. Those two guys were just too damned distracting. He started his car and flipped the turn signal on to let other drivers know that he was pulling the large car out into traffic.

They were on their way and Kagome was excited to be staying over at her best friends’ house, yet something was causing her stomach to tense up. Sensing her daughter’s discomfort, she laid a cool smooth hand upon her knee. Kagome turned to her and smiled.

“I’m okay mom, really.”

“I know. I just thought you may have needed some assurance.”

“Thanks.”

“Hey cool, look at this!” Souta had pressed yet another button and a flat panel television screen came rising from a hidden area.

“This is truly magic.” Uttered Gramps.

“No Gramps, this isn’t magic. Magic doesn’t exist and you know it.” Said Souta.

“Bah, you take the fun away from this old man.”

That got the two women laughing.

***********************************************

Sesshoumaru walked out of the jewelry store with a tiny bag, very pleased with his purchase. He would have to remember this place next time. He felt lighter than air. Tonight was definitely going to be memorable.

***********************************************

When the car stopped about forty five minutes later, Kagome thought they had the wrong address. This wasn’t where she remembered Sesshoumaru living. She got out of the car and went up to the driver.

“You did bring us to the Taisho residence, correct?”

“Yes ma’am. This is their newest acquirement from my understanding.” He helped Ceri out of the car by taking her hand. A young man came rushing out of the building lifting the trunk of the limo to get to the luggage.

Kagome and the rest of her family stood outside of the limo and looked up. As far as one could look up without hurting their necks. The building was as tall as their eyes could see. It was completely straight. From the mid to upper floors jutted balconies of various sizes. All four Higurashi’s looked to have perfect O’s on their faces. They knew Sesshoumaru’s father was successful, but damn.

When Kagome was able to look down again, Sesshoumaru himself was walking towards her with a proud smile upon his face. He had changed from the sweaty clothes he had on earlier to something more tightly fitting and hugged his body so deliciously. It may only be a green t-shirt and dark rock washed jeans, but it made Kagome think of their earlier escapades and her face flushed a vibrant red.

He opened his arms wide. “So what does everyone think?”

Ceri was the first one to speak up. “Sess, it’s beautiful. Your father must be doing very well.”

The young man before them shook his head, causing that illustrious hair of his to sway.

“Sorry Mrs. Higurashi, but this one is mine.”

The family of four gave him similar looks of astonishment.

“Sess, why didn’t you tell me about this?”

“Because I wanted it to be a surprise.”

Souta spoke up, “Well this is one hell of a surprise man.”

“Souta.” His mother smacked his arm.

“Let us go inside, it is still very hot out here and I doubt a man of Gramps age should be lingering out here for much longer.”

“Young man, you have no idea what you are talking about.”

“Dinner is about ready.”

“Let’s go people, time’s a wastin.”

Ceri shared a look with her daughter and they laughed. Nothing moved Gramps faster than the mere mentioning of food. The laughter helped ease Kagome’s tension if ever so slightly. The man before her had her heart palpitating so hard she thought he would be able to see it. He reached out his hand to her.

“Come on Kaggy. Let me show you where everyone will be staying. You’re gonna love it.” He flashed her his winsome smile, earning one back from her. She placed her hand in his and they were off and running, acting like little kids. Him chasing her then her chasing him.

“Sess,” a couch separated them momentarily “don’t you think someone’s going to say something?”

“About what?”

“Us running around like this.” She tried to catch her breath.

“Nope. No reason to, I own the building. Besides, the employees love me here.”

“Un huh, I just bet they do.” She leapt over the couch, trying to get to him and he took off like a flash. He was so fast and kept darting in and out of various places. She just couldn’t keep up, and then she realized when she stopped to catch her breath for the third time, that she had completely lost him. Kagome was tired and didn’t wish to run anymore, so she went back to the main lobby, thinking she could ask someone where she was staying, seeing as how Sesshoumaru forgot to tell her.

When she got there, everyone was already gone of course. She turned towards the reception desk, and as if knowing, the young man standing there looked up at her. He smiled at her and gave a small nod of his head towards the elevators. She followed the direction of his nod and to her amazement; there was a note with her name on it. She opened it and it read:

You are the moon
As I am the sun
That is why you must
Begin at level one.
To find what you seek
Continue to level thirteen.

It was signed Sess so she definitely couldn’t be confused. He always did have a weird way with poetry. So, she pressed the up button and waited for the doors to open. She got on and pressed thirteen. When she arrived, she stepped out and there was another note with her name on it.

Oh what bliss
Send me to Heaven
Continue you must
To level twenty seven.

She got back on the elevator and continued her journey upwards. The doors opened again and across from her lay a rose with a note attached.

To bathe in your sweetness
It curls my toes
To level forty five
This lady goes.

She took a whiff of the rose, and it smelled so sweet. She stepped back onto the elevator and twirled the stem between her fingers as she rode up to level forty five. She wondered what could be waiting for her there. The doors opened for the third time, but there was no note. No rose.

She stepped out to make sure she had the right floor, and when she turned to her left, there was a path of different colored rose petals leading down the hallway. Kagome figured what the hell and followed them. The solid wood door had the number 4590 on a large placard on the front. It was also slightly ajar. Against her better judgment, she pushed it open with her finger tips.

She called softly into the room, “Sesshoumaru? Are you in here?”

There was no answer. The lights had been dimmed low. It was enough to where you could just barely see. The room was more like a suite. Of course, it had one of those beautifully rounded balconies, like she had seen on Aladdin when she was younger. It even had the billowing curtains. Wait, billowing curtains? That meant that the doors were open to the outside.

She laid the rose and notes down on the seat of a nearby chair.

“Sesshoumaru?” She called again a little more boldly. She tip toed around the dim room looking around the room trying to let her eyes adjust to the little bit of light. She froze when she heard movement behind the curtains.

Against her instincts to run, she cautiously stepped over to the sound. She stopped and gasped when she saw a figure bathed in the moonlight beyond the wind kissed curtains. She was able to relax when she saw the silky long hair swaying with the wind.

He was leaning against the door frame staring out into the night. Arms and bare feet were crossed, showing his muscular form. Kagome smiled in spite of herself. She wanted to be mad at him for scaring the crap out of her, yet she couldn’t.

“So, you finally made it up here. I was always faster than you koi.”

He turned to her.

“Come out here, the stars are beautiful tonight.”

She walked past him outside onto the balcony beyond the draperies. It was indeed a breathtaking sight. Various plants ivy and flowers were decorated all along the circumference of the balcony, it was made almost to look as if they were standing in a jungle.

She stood there gazing at all the beauty that surrounded her when he slipped in behind her and slid his hands around her curvaceous waist. Her heart quickened when she realized he was shirtless. All of those rippling muscles were at her back and the powerfully chiseled arms were curled around her. She slid her hands over his and leaned into him. He pulled her tight against him and leaned in to nibble at her ear, his hair spilling all around them.

She giggled, “Sess, that tickles.” and wiggled out of his warm embrace.

He smiled. “I know. Everyone else is having dinner in the restaurant downstairs. I had them bring ours up here. I thought you would like to have dinner alone with me, away from your family at least once. I know how overwhelming they can be.”

She gave a wholehearted laugh at that.

“Oh Sess, you know me so well. So, what did you have them bring?”

“Your favorites of course. Medium well steak, two baked potatoes dripping with butter and golden hominy. I also have your favorite A-1 steak sauce on ice.”

“Wow, I never thought you paid that much attention to me. Thank you Sess.” She turned to him and slid into his arms for another hug. He laid his cheek on top of her head and returned the hug with a fierceness he didn’t know he had.

“Kagome, I would do anything for you.”

He tilted her face towards his with both his hands. She closed her eyes and stretched onto her tiptoes as he leaned in. Their noses clashed and their heads bumped. They pulled back and laughed as they rubbed their sore spots.

“I guess we’d better eat first.”

“I think so.”
