Chapter One-----
"Come on guys hurry up!" the eighteen year old boy yelled back toward his friends as he ran down the street. "Oh god Aunt Mia is going to kill me when she finds out that I haven't been over there watching over her." he growled angrily as he raced off faster.
"Urameshi what's the hurry! Slow down." yelled the tallest of the small group as they tried to keep up with their friend. The red head was about to ask something when Urameshi turned the corner. Speeding up to the point where he was using his demonic speed the red head managed to catch up with his friend.
"Yusuke why are you in such a hurry? Where are you leading us?" he asked calmly keeping up easily now with his friend.
Yusuke Urameshi glanced over to his friend out of the corner of his eye. "It's my Aunt she called and left a message with my mom for me to come over earlier this morning, but I was off on a mission with you guys." he breathed out as he kept running not caring of who or what he ran over.
"Why is so important that you get there is such a hurry? There's something that you leaving out." the red head said cooly.
"Yea there is. It's my cousin she......hasn't been herself lately. She's become badly withdrawn and depressed in the pass couple of months. My Aunt Mia and the rest of us first noticed when she was attacked by some gang bangers. They wanted money and she didn't have any but they kept insisting that she did and she wasn't giving it to them. Angry they began to knock her around normally no one can lay a finger on her without her fighting back in some way whither it's yelling or fighting but at the time she did nothing she didn't even defend herself it was almost as if she wanted them to beat her up. Maybe even kill her. Ever since then we've made sure that someone is with her at all times." he said to his red head friend.
Watching up ahead he could see that the steps of the shrine were coming into view. Putting on an extra burst of speed. "But Yusuke if your Aunt is there why are you so worried?" the red head asked seemingly not worried since someone was there.
Yusuke looked over at his friend with worried eyes "That's the problem ,Kurama, no has been there for at least two hours. She's been by herself." he said and turned another corner and paused just long enough for the others to catch up before "See the shrine we're almost there!" he said quickly and raced off again this time up the stairs of the shrine.
Reaching the top he didn't even wait for the others this time he raced across the shrine grounds and toward the small house that lay in the center. He fumbled I his pockets a minute looking for his keys then pulled them out and unlocked the door.
As they entered the house a strange off feeling met them. "Kagome I'm here......" there was odd pause one that set the detective on the edge "Kagome...." he repeated again this time louder and more demanding.
Abruptly there was a soft thud of something falling upstairs. Yusuke looked over at his red headed friend who nodded that he heard it too and then turned and raced towards the stairs. Down the hallway pausing at the first door to the right. Opening the door they was shocked to find a young woman no older than eighteen lying face down on the floor but what startled them most was the fact that a small puddle of blood was beginning to form under her staining her white school shirt.
Yusuke raced across the small room scooping the small form of the girl up off the floor and into his lap completely ignoring the fact that she was getting blood all over him as he checked for a pulse. Hope filled his eyes as he found one it was weak but it was there if they could stop the bleeding then there was hope of her surviving. Gently he sat her on the ground so that he could assess the damage. His eyes went wide as he saw two twelve inch long gashes in each arm. Quickly he tore off his white t-shirt and began to rip it into strips to use as bandages. "Come on Kagome stay with me!" he demanded as he wrapped her wounds tightly then pulling her limp form into his lap again. "What would cause her to do something like this?" he muttered more to himself than to the others.
"Hey Urameshi, she wrote something here on the desk.." Kuwabara paused picking up the letter and turning to the others. The red head other wise known as Kurama took the piece of paper from his friend.
"It's a letter. It's addressed to her family." he stated calmly watching as his friend before he continued. "It reads.....
Dear family,
I know this will be hard for you to expect. But know that this was my decision. Please try to understand that I had to do this and that my decision wasn't caused by any one of you all. I know now that he only see's me as an unwanted burden and one that I can't"”won't be any longer. I know that it'd be easier to just give him the shards and be done with it but with that lies yet another problem. He would demand that I continue on with the mission but I can't. I can't continue on every day like I don't see what is right in front of my face. He doesn't love me and he never did. I was the fool that believed in false hopes and I wouldn't be able to live day after day always being reminded of what I've lost. Given that this is my only option, only way out, and the only way that I will no longer be a burden to my friends. Know this through I will always be watching over all of you.

"˜A burden? What were you talking about Kagome you were never a burden. No you're far from it you helped out the most of all.' Yusuke thought as he looked down at his younger cousin. A lone tear ran down his cheek as he lifted her limp body to his chest supporting her with a hand on the back of her neck and on her back. Leaning his head down near her ear he continued to try and call his dying cousin back "Kagome don't you die on me! You stay with me I mean it or else! God Kagome don't leave I need you." the last part was muttered as if it was hopeless.
There was a unhealthy pause and just about when he was going to give up hope that he was ever going to see his cousin again he felt her heartbeat begin to beat stronger under the rough skin of his palm. "That's it Kagome fight it come back." he whispered gently but demandingly in her ear. "Don't you give up. Come back they need you......I need you." he muttered and laid her on the floor to watch over.
Suddenly said girl's breath became harsh and blistering as she tired to do the almost impossible. To come back to the conscience and then abruptly she did just that. Her eyelids fluttered for a moment then opened halfway looked around the room confused for a second then slowly returned to the person beside her. "Not a burden?" she asked her voice horse and rasp to all ears that were in the room.
Without delay Yusuke grabbed onto his cousin holding her to his chest again rocking back and forth trying to comfort her. "No. You are never a burden not to me or anyone." he whispered in her hair near close enough so that she could hear him loud and clear. Looking down at her he saw a small forced smile on her lips "Good." she muttered gently softly and if it wasn't for his superior hearing then he wouldn't have. Then just as abruptly as she had awaken she was asleep again only this time it was a sleep that would allow her to fully heal. At least physically. Emotionally however they all knew would take much longer.
