~~~In the Rekai~~~
“Boton, would you please come here?” asked a Godling that looked like a toddler.
“Yes Koenma sir?” answered a bubbly girl with blue hair up in a pony tail and a pink kimono.
“I need you to go collect a soul,” Koenma said blankly, “This girl, Higurashi Kagome has anchored herself to a cherry tree. She killed off a great evil that we have been looking to kill for a while now. We wish to reward her with a choice to be reincarnated or wait in Paradise until she is ready.” Koenma ordered her as he shuffled some of the paper on his desk. “She likes the spot where she is, so she may put up a fight.” he gave her a tip as he began to stamp some of the documents.
“Yes sir, I will be back in a while.” With a little ‘pop’ an oar appeared and she disappeared through a portal.
~~~~~~~
Boton appeared a few yards away from the tree. Its branches swaying in the cool breeze as its blossoms fell lightly to the ground and decorated a grave at its base. Boton sighed as she soared through the air on her oar, she hated taking souls away from an anchored spot, they always cried and begged her to leave them their. ‘I don’t think that I would fancy being taken away from a spot that means a lot to me either.’ She thought to herself as once again she question her line of work.
She landed next to the grave and said a small prayer to the girl resting there, drawing her from the tree.
“Why have you called me out of my resting place?” Kagome asked softly as she stared into the eyes of the woman.
“I have come to take you from here. Souls are not meant to linger here on this plane, a higher place is waiting for one such as yourself. You will be rewarded in the afterlife Kagome, do not fear me. We have seen the great things you have done in this life, you will be rewarded in your next one.” Boton said as she tried to coax the girls soul towards her with some of her power.
“I am sorry, but I cannot leave here yet, I have been called to do something by the Kami. I have yet to learn what it is, but I must accomplish my task before I move on. Besides, I wish to watch my son grow. Only after I witness these things come to pass will I accompany you on my soul’s journey.” Kagome answered the Reaper as she went back into the tree and blocked herself off from Boton’s power.
The Reaper sighed as she opened a portal to the Rekai and stepped through, knowing that she had failed a task given to her, something unheard of.
~~~~
Four years had passed since the Reaper had attempted to take the soul that housed itself in the Sakura tree. Eight long years since the death of a pure Miko and an evil hanyou.
A foul presence began to slink towards Kagome’s grave marker.
A youkai with scaley green skin and red eyes looked towards his companion, a youkai with black eyes, red hair and pail skin. “So this is the place.” said the Youkai with green skin. He pulled out a black bottle with writings going up and down its rounded sides. Uncorking the top, he whispered some words into the bottle as white wisps of smoke poured out of the bottle.
The wisps made their way towards the tree, coiling themselves around the trunk. A shriek was heard by the two youkai, and then they knew they had their prize.
A human Miko’s soul slowly emerged from the tree, the wisps of spiritual smoke drawing her out of the tree. “Why are you doing this to me?” Kagome yelled at the smiling youkai, fighting the smoky bonds that held her.
“Master Nokou is in need of your services.” stated the green youkai as he held the bottle towards the struggling spirit.
Kagome screamed and struggled as the wisps of smoke brought her closer and closer to the bottle. With a pop, she was inside the bottle and the cork was quickly placed on top to prevent her escape. On the inside of the bottle, a single tear streamed down Kagome’s face as she curled up into a ball in the dark place.
~~Three days later in the Rekai~~~~
Koenma shuttered as he read the red document in front of him. It seemed that the soul that they had failed to collect four years prior had been stolen, and brought to a place no innocent soul should go, the castle of King Nokou, the King of the Spirit Hell.
Koenma sighed and called in the S.A.F. (A.N. Special attack force {I think >.>}) “Troops,” he addressed them, “you have an extremely important and difficult mission ahead of you. You must locate the soul of Kagome Higurashi down in King Nokou’s castle. Infiltrate, attack and collect. You are our best hope of collecting her soul. She has spiritual powers just waiting to be unlocked, if Nokou gets his hands on the power she possess, he could overthrow the Rekai and take over. You must be swift, and again be extremely cautious, that place is not called Spirit Hell for nothing.”
Koenma sent them out of his office with a sigh. If that group failed what would he do then? ‘Perhaps I should get together an elite band of youkai, train them to their limits and have them do my bidding for me.....I think I will call them the spirit detectives......’ Koenma mused.
~~~~In Spirit Hell~~~~
Nokou held the bottle that contained the miko’s soul in his hands. He smiled at the dead bodies of the S.A.F. troops all around him. Koenma was not going to be pleased when he heard. Oh well, it was not his problem, so who was he to care? He unscrewed the cork and watched as a girl in a Miko garb fell out of the bottle. He caught her before she hit the ground and smiled softly at her.
Kagome looked at the man that held her with tear filled eyes. “What do you want with me?” she asked and she choked back a sob.
Nokou looked at her with a soft smile and said “I have saved you from these horrible creatures. They had planned to bring you to Spirit Hell. I saved you from a horrible fate little one. Tell me, what is your name?”
“Kagome” the teary eyed priestess answered. “Where am I?” she asked her savior.
“Kagome, dear, you are in the middle grounds between Spirit Paradise and Spirit Hell. To be more precise about your position, you are in my castle. Unfortunately, because of the fact you were taken from your world illegally, even though you were unwilling, as soon as you leave the boundaries of my castle, you will be transported to Spirit Hell.” Nokou lied through his teeth to the girl. In reality, she was in the Castle of Hell. The only reason that she could not tell this was because of a spell placed around the castle grounds, making everything fresh and beautiful, much unlike its true state.
Kagome looked at her savior with wide eyes. “What is your name?” She asked him.
“I am Makine, ruler of the middle grounds. I would like you to be my guest here at the castle, for there is really no other place for you to go.” Nokou said with a smile.

Dammit, I’m rusty. Well, I hope that I will update this fic at least once a week. Hopefully by that time I will have a couple of other fics up. Tell me how you like it and I’ll update soon. By the way, the wierd box thingies after the quoted text things in the past chapters happened during the move. I noticed that a lot of the fics that were here before the move have a couple of wierd things. For example, one of the fics that I read had upsidedown question marks for quotations, and that only happened on the chapters she had before the move. So yea, see you guys later. I'll probably update this in a couple of days.
By the way, I expect reviews!!! They make the authors panties dampen. If you review, I'm a happy camper and more likely to update sooner. >.> arhg me hearties <.<
