~~Chapter 3: Found~~

Sesshoumaru woke the next morning around noon. To his surprise Inuyasha hadn’t woke him up as he did every morning to try to get him to play. It wasn’t often he actually got to sleep in. He made his way downstairs making himself a bowl of cereal and read the newspaper. He sighed, and then that’s when he noticed it. He could smell the scent of a human lingering in the room, mixed in with Inuyasha’s. “So that’s where he is.” He continued to read the paper until he saw Inuyasha running past the window being chased by a little girl. He flipped the newspaper back to the front and looked at the little girl’s face, it was the same. Now Sesshoumaru wasn’t stupid, he knew he that he had to call the police. “Stupid humans, always causing so much trouble.”

After he had phoned the police he went outside to find both Inuyasha and the little girl. She was supposedly hurt, although she didn’t look it running past the window. He hated wasting his time like this. “Inuyasha!” He yelled.

Inuyasha appeared a moment later in front of his half brother, Kagome trying to keep up behind him. “What do you want? We’re busy.”

“Not any more, you aren’t.” He stated calmly, eying his little brother.

Kagome stopped in her tracks when she saw his brother and her jaw dropped. He had the same silver hair and golden eyes, but he also had purple streaks going across his face. He was so pretty, but he looked mean, so she hid behind Inuyasha.

Sesshoumaru’s gaze fell upon the little girl. For being in such a tragic accident she looked just fine, except for the cut on her forehead. He expected a lot more bruising on the little girl from what was said in the newspaper. “Everyone is worried about you human. Even the police are out looking for you. You could get us in some trouble if they found you here. They tend to be a bit harder on us.”

Kagome frowned. She didn’t mean to worry everyone. “I’m sorry.” She said meekly, not looking up, and still hiding behind Inuyasha.

Sesshoumaru felt no pity for the little girl standing in front of him. Humans were the reason his life was so hard. But he had to keep the family out of trouble, which Inuyasha had attracted since he was born. “There is no need to apologize to me. You will however have to explain yourself to your mother and the authorities. Now come inside and wait. I have already informed the authorities that you are here. They are on their way.” He said coolly

Inuyasha growled as they walked back to the house. “You didn’t have to be so mean you know.” He said, only loud enough for Sesshoumaru to hear.

“Wait!” Kagome managed to get out before he went inside.

Sesshoumaru didn’t even bother to turn around. “What is it?”

“Why do you have stripes on your face?” She asked meekly. It had been bugging her since she first laid eyes on him, and she was not one to keep her mouth shut.

Both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru looked at her in shock. She wasn’t supposed to see them. He was going to have to ask his father about it later. “It is of no matter to you. Come let’s go inside.”

It took no longer than 15 minutes for the police to come knocking on the door. When Sesshoumaru opened the door, they were surprised to see a teenager standing before them, demon or not. They got straight to the point. “Is the girl here now?” The taller police officer asked calmly.

Sesshoumaru nodded, not really wanting to converse with them more than was necessary, and pointed over to the girl still hiding behind his little brother. But to his disappointment they persisted in asking him their stupid little questions.

“What was she doing here?”

“I assume playing with my little brother.” He said coolly.

“Why did you not contact the authorities sooner?”

“I wasn’t aware of her presence until this morning.”

“Where was she last night?”

“How am I supposed to know? Although I think Inuyasha knows.” He said, almost smiling, knowing where their attentions would turn. He walked off and returned to reading his paper.

The shorter police officer with dark hair crouched down near Inuyasha. “Could you tell me when Kagome came over young man?”

Inuyasha stuck his tongue out at his brother and answered the police officer’s question. “I found her in a tree last night. She was tired and scared so I invited her over.”

“Well her mother is looking for her, so we need to take her with us.” The police officer said, reaching for Kagome.

He quickly snapped his hand back, however, when Inuyasha began to growl at him. He took a protective stance in front of Kagome and bared his fangs. “You won’t take her where she don’t wanna go.” He said through his teeth.

Kagome placed her hand on his arm to calm him down. “It’s okay Inuyasha. I miss my mommy. I promise I will come back.”

He turned around to face her. “Are you sure?”

She nodded her head yes and gave him a hug. “Thank you.”

The shorter policeman smiled. Her meeting up with this boy, demon or not, had done some good in spite of the situation. At least she didn’t seem to be too injured.

Mrs. Higurashi picked up the phone after the first ring. The only people that knew she just had her baby and was in the hospital were the police. They had to have found Kagome. “Hello?” She said expectantly.

“Mrs. Higurashi, it is Lieutenant Wolf. We have found your daughter and she is on her way to the hospital to get checked out. She was found almost a mile away from the crash site, but she looks fine.”

She sighed in relief and tried to get up while she finished talking to the police officer. “Thank you so much! I am on my way to that part of the hospital right now.”

“Have a good evening Mrs. Higurashi. We will contact you with news about the trial as soon as we get it. Good bye.”

“Good bye.” She said, hanging up the phone and falling back into the bed. She had just been in labor for ten hours and she couldn’t move anymore. She called for the nurse and told them that when Kagome was brought into the hospital, that they were to bring her there to check her out. No one argued.

It seemed to take forever for her to get there, but as soon as they brought her in, all her worries washed away. “Kagome!”

“Mommy! I missed you!” Kagome squealed in delight, running up to her mom.

Mrs. Higurashi wrapped her arms around her daughter and held her tight, tears streaming down her face. “I missed you too, sweetie.”

When her mom let go, she could see the tears streaming down her face. “Mommy, why are you crying?” She asked, not really understanding.

“I thought I lost both of you. I am so happy to still have you. You remind me so much of him.” She saw Kagome’s saddened expression and couldn’t imagine what the child could have gone through all night. “Did you sleep outside all night? Are you feeling okay? Whose clothes are these?”

As if she hadn’t spoke in nearly days she answered her mother excitedly, smiling at the memory. “I was going to sleep in this big tree, but this boy named Inuyasha invited me over. He’s a whole year older than me! He let me use his clothes and sleep in the bed. I even got to make my own bath! And his house is huge! It’s like four of ours in one! His bed is absolutely huge and he has all kinds of toys. We could have played all day! Do you think I could go back and see him? I promised him I would. We had a lot of fun. His brother is weird though, acts kinda mean. I haven’t seen his father yet, but he was already asleep when I came over.”

Mrs. Higurashi laughed at her daughter’s enthusiasm. She obviously enjoyed her time at this place she stayed at. “I’ll have to meet this boy, this weird brother, and their father first. But I’ll bring you along when I say my thanks.”

Kagome squealed in delight. “Thank you mommy!” Just as she finished squealing, she started up again. The nurse was bringing in a baby and handing it to her mother. “Is that my baby brother?”

The baby boy did not like all the squealing done by his older sister and immediately started crying. Mrs. Higurashi calmed him down and then told Kagome his name. “Yes, this is your new brother Souta.”

She jumped up and down. “Can I hold him, can I hold him?!”

She smiled down at her daughter. If she didn’t know any better she would think her more happy about his birth than herself, which was pretty hard. “If you are a good girl and let the doctors check you over you can hold him for as long as you want.”

She stuck out her lip in a pout and dug her foot into the floor. “But mo-oommy! I swear I’m fine!” She twirled around and stuck her hands in the air. “See!”

She shook her head. “Nope, only if you get checked over.”

“Okay, but no needles.” She whined.
