Finding Completion

Chapter Three


A pink light filled Yusuke's sight, something landed at his feet. He watched in fascination as the blow impacted only to disappear on contact. "What the hell?" He looked down, an arrow was glowing at his feet. Who had shot it?

"You saved us Sis!" Souta looked to see his sister barely out the door with a pissed off expression on her face. "Oh yeah you guys are going to get it now." He yelled at the six, all ready to attack again. Both girls had bows out, arrows aiming for the large group.

"Leave if you don't want to die." Kagome raised her voice, angry that they would try to kill not only Inuyasha but her brother as well. He was just a boy, who did they think they were? She wouldn't sit in the house while they fought for her. If they wanted the jewel they'd have to pry it out her cold dead body. She had a good idea who this Enma was but didn't appreciate his welcoming commitee and she'd let him know of her displeasure. "You go tell your King if he wishes to speak to me then he will send someone more polite. I refuse to speak to the likes of you. It takes a real coward to attack a defenseless child. I'll have no problem destroying your soul if you insist upon staying."

"Dammit, Kagome," Inuyasha stormed over to her forgetting about everyone else. Why couldn't she just listen to him one time. Why did she feel the need to jump into battle when she wasn't needed? There was more than just her to think about now. If she died so did the baby, it wasn't his but he still cared. It would kill him if anything ever happened to her. "I told you to stay inside, why do you have to be so hard headed?"

"Inuyasha, sit." She smiled when he fell to the ground, her eyes never left her targets. It looked like there was going to be a stand off, no one was willing to make the first move. She didn't want to hurt anyone but there was no way she could just hand the jewel over. Her senses also picked up the familiar aura standing not far from her. Anxiety filled her, why was he here? He hadn't arrived with the others but minutes later. Had he felt what was happening, or had Souta brought him. Then how did Souta know him?

A portal opened up next to the lead man, all six went to their knees and bowed. A teenage boy came out, the portal closed behind him. Koenma looked around, once again his father's men had made a mess of things. Did they really think they would be able to demand the jewel? Force was not an option in this case. His eyes narrowed at seeing the other miko standing before him. "So it is true, you brought her back to life. Not that I am surprised, your actions have spoken of kindness. First, let me apologize for them. They were never too intellegent, why my father keeps them around I'll never know."

"Koenma, what are you doing here?" Yusuke spoke seeing the toddler. He should have been expecting this, Koenma would have to be involved somehow. It still didn't explain what was going on either. Why was the SDF after Kagome? When did she get so powerful? Or had she always been that way and had been able to hide it? And why did he feel like running up to her and kissing her?

"I could ask you the same thing Yusuke. But knowing you, you felt the energy being emitted by these two and came to investigate. I assure you that you are not needed here at this time. Hopefully this can be settled without any violence. No one here wants to end up like the hanyou there." Koenma heard the threats coming from the hole and sighed. Why did she bring them back with her? Not that it could be corrected now, only she had the ability to access the well.

"Actually, I was just bringing the little guy over there home. He suddenly got worried about his family, just a coincidence. Though I'd like to know why Enma would send the SDF after a girl and her family." Yusuke felt her eyes turn to look at him finally. His skin heated up under the gaze, his blood stirred.

"You men will stand down while I speak to the girl." Koenma walked past Kikyou who never lowered her bow towards the group. Kagome lowered hers not sensing anything menacing from the guy. He studied the girl he'd heard so much about, hard to believe she was the Guardian. "I'm very pleased to meet you, Kagome Higurashi. You may call me Koenma, I'm sorry about all this. They were sent here to retrieve the jewel. You see my father thought it best if it were sealed away with the barrier between the Ningenkai and Makai no longer existing. If rumor of it's return were to spread then it may cause unrest among the masses. Some may even break the treaty to seek out it's power. We have no wish to cause harm to you nor your friends. If you hand the jewel over, I can assure you that it will be kept locked away so no one can use it for evil ever again."

Kagome listened to the speech, it sounded well thought out. She knew that this was the Koenma she'd been told about. It meant that Yusuke trusted this man, so he couldn't be that bad. "Well, if your group back there wasn't a bunch of assholes I might have come out and explained a few things. I'm sure I could trust you with keeping it safe and all that. Thing is I can't give it to you."

"Why not?" Koenma lifted a brow. Her journey was complete so she had to have completed the jewel also. It should have been purified. "Don't let others influence your decision Kagome. I am someone you can trust."

"Don't assume, you know what they say about that don't you." Kagome glared at him, stupid male. "I really can't give it to you. See after it was used for the wish it kind of went back into my body." She looked sheepish as she informed him about the turn of events.

"Where is it? Maybe there is a chance it can be removed." Koenma saw her flush before turning angry. His eyes widened and he took a step back. What had he said? It had been removed from her once before and she'd been fine. He could only assume the same now.

"Try and it die jerk. Looks it's not like I'm against the idea but you aren't trying to remove anything from me anytime soon. Ask me again in about six months and I'll let you know then because the jewel is in my abdomen. If you even come at me with anything sharp you'll find out what it means to be purified." She let her words sink in, shock crossed his face. Yusuke's gasp was heard also and she cringed. Maybe she shouldn't have spoken so loud. Well not like she could change anything now.

"You're pregnant, how the hell did that happen?" Koenma gawked at her. Surely this was a joke, she was suppose to return a virgin. This didn't sit well, if the jewel was in her and she was no longer pure. Couldn't that hanyou have kept his hands to himself.

"Do I need to draw you a picture? I got naked with someone and did the nasty, how's that for an explanation?" Kagome yelled at him, was he a moron? How else did someone get pregnant? Inuyasha's "Don't look at me", was heard from the hole making her blush. Great, why didn't the hanyou just turn around and say "Yes, it's yours Yusuke."

"You know now that you will never have the jewel in your possession." Kikyou spoke from the sidelines. "The jewel returned to her body even after she was no longer pure. I think you know what that means, it will not allow you to remove it. Nor will anyone else be able to do so while Kagome lives. She has been chosen to see to it's care, not you or your father. Take your team and leave, she may be forgiving but I am not."

"I can't do that I'm afraid. If it cannot be removed other measures must be taken to see to the jewel's safety. I will assign a team to guard her then. I'm sure my father will find a few people that will do." Koenma cringed as several voices echoed in his ears. "I'm sorry, we must make sure you have someone with you now."

"I don't need a babysitter, I can take care of myself dammit." Kagome couldn't believe it, there was no way in hell she'd allow it. The shrine was crowded as is, she didn't need more people moving in. Plus, she could imagine the people this Enma would send. Screw that, she'd purify them the minute they stepped into the yard.

"I'll do it," Yusuke spoke up before another word was spoken. "We both know she isn't going to want some team standing over her all the time. Plus, one person is better than a whole team."

"You might have a point. Somehow I don't see Keiko liking the idea too much Yusuke." Koenma saw him flush under the statement. "I can't ask you to seperate from your wife."

"The girl can stay with me." Kurama jumped out the tree to land beside Yusuke. The fox smiled at his two friends, before turning to Koenma and the shocked girl in question. She was staring at him like he had two heads, he nodded in her direction. "Hello, sorry to interrupt. I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. I'm not surprised to see everyone here. The offer stands, I'd like to help out if I can. I'd like to suggest the girl take a room in my place. I work during the day and there is plenty of room. During the day Yusuke can keep an eye on her and at night I will be there."

"Wait a fucking minute, there's no way Kagome is going anywhere." Inuyasha got up from his hole ready to tear into someone. They'd just gotten here and someone was already trying to seperate him from her, he wouldn't allow it. "You're not taking her away from me. I'll kill anyone that tries."

Kagome heard Inuyasha but didn't say anything. At one time that statement would have made her heart soar not now. Instead another comment kept repeating in her head. 'I can't ask you to seperate from your wife.' He was married, he'd went ahead with his wedding to Keiko. Not that she had expected him to change his mind or his feelings to change. It still bothered her to hear it. Maybe because she still found it so hard to forget that night. She'd never be able to forget it, her child would always be a reminder. Not that she could have brushed it aside pregnancy or not. He had managed to touch something inside her not even Inuyasha had. There had been and was something about him that called to her soul. He had to be wondering about the baby. When would he ask? How was she going to deal with this? It was too much to handle now. Why did this have to happen? Had it been too much to ask to simply come home, have her child and live a peaceful life? She'd been more than willing to wallow in pity alone. Who had decided to make sure that Yusuke found out about the results of their one night? What had she done to deserve all this? It wasn't fair, all of it was so wrong. Why couldn't she have been a normal teenage girl? Why was her biggest worry the jewel and not how to get rid of her acne? Now she had the jewel to worry about for the rest of her life, however long that was going to be. She was impregnated by a married man, her ex was still being too possessive and people were trying to dictate her life. Her head began to ring, her thoughts began to jubble together. She'd swear Koenma had just cloned himself because she was seeing double. Her eyes rolled back into her head, what was happening?

Inuyasha caught her before she hit the ground. "Kagome?" He picked her up seeing she was out cold. "Happy now?" He yelled at the man, worry filled his features. He knew he was some of the cause for her distress. All this was too much on her nerves, with her delicate state. "We will discuss this later, after she feels better."

Mrs. Higurashi came running out upon seeing her daughter faint. "I can't believe you people. Don't you have any compassion, can't you see she doesn't need all this stress. Take her in the house Inuyasha and lay her down on the bed please. Anyone that doesn't live here I suggest you leave now. I might not be a youkai or have special powers but I do have a gun. I'll also mention that my husband taught me how to hit my target. Now leave, this is my home and you aren't welcome."

"You tell em Mom! Have Gramps bring out the wards, we'll teach em to mess with this family." Souta yelled calling attention to himself. All eyes were on him until something small and furry came running out the house to jump on the unconscious girl.

"Kagome!" Shippo landed on her chest, fear laced his voice. "Please say she's going to be okay." He cupped her face with his small hands, looking at the ashen skin. "She's too pale. What did you do this time Inuyasha?" The kit yelled into the hanyou's face, "If you upset my mother I'll never forgive you."

"Get off her Shippo and I didn't do anything you little shit." Inuyasha walked into the house growling at the fox who refused to vacate. As soon as he put Kagome down he was going to teach the little kid some manners finally. His protector was passed out which left him plenty of time to beat some sense into the boy.

Mrs. Higurashi closed the door behind her family, leaving all the others standing in the yard. She wasn't sure what was going on but aimed to find out. She'd heard most of it and agreed with some of it but didn't like how they were going about it. Above all else the safety of her daughter and unborn grandchild was most important. They needed to be taken care of first before some jewel. She'd make sure that Koenma knew this if he kept insisting on this nonsense. They wouldn't be allowed to stress out Kagome, not while she was around.

Kikyou walked up to the youkai standing in the yard ignoring the others. He had said he'd arrived merely to bring Souta home, that might be true but she saw something else. Kagome had never spoken to her of the man she'd been with that day. Not that she expected the girl to confide in her that way. The girl hadn't even told Inuyasha who the man was. Usually it was possible for youkai to sense the aura of most unborn children. Kagome however had a barrier around her child keeping it from being seen by most. Luckily for her she was also a miko and could see what others could not. The child had the same aura as the young man standing not far from her. She'd be willing to bet that the child was his. But Koenma had mentioned a wife, explained why Kagome didn't want anyone to know who the father was. So the talk she wanted was to be alone without any interruption. "Come with me, I wish to speak to you."

Yusuke looked at the woman who greatly resembled Kagome. He remembered her speaking of the woman named Kikyou, the one she'd been reincarnated after. What did the woman want with him? They stopped a ways from the group, he felt something crawl over his skin. "What the hell was that?"

"Calm yourself, it is just a barrier. I don't think we could talk in private without it. Don't worry they cannot see us or hear what is being said. Not even your fox friend, though I feel him trying to probe. You are the father aren't you?" She went straight to the point, not wasting the time with useless talk. "Don't try to deny it, it will only insult me. I've known Kagome for years, she never went with anyone in my era. I can see the aura of the child she carries, it is the same as yours. Yours is a unique one, I don't sense any other like it here. It leaves only one explanation, you are the one she was with."

"Yeah, then I guess it is, I won't deny it. I didn't know until now that she was pregnant. So don't go yelling at me about not taking responsibility. I couldn't have, I didn't even know how to find her." His voice picked up a notch, his anger coming out.

"So you tried to find her afterwards? That pleases me, so I won't have to kill you. I'll admit at first that Kagome and I had our differences, I even went so far as to try and kill her. She is a good person and does things the way she sees best. I'm sure the reason she didn't find you and let you know is because of your current relationship. I will not discuss that with you however we will talk about what can be done. If the child is yours then you should take some of the responsibility for him. Your friend's suggestion would be for the best. Kagome will not like being surrounded by a lot of people she doesn't know. She might accept the protection better if it was from you. I will go speak to her when she wakes, I'll leave you to speak to everyone else." She let the barrier drop before he could speak again. The tall plain redhead was standing next to them, peering. She smirked at him, he cringed and backed away.

"Wow, she's scary." Kuwabara watched the woman walk into the house leaving them alone. "What did she want to talk to you about man?"

"Atleast you show some sense Kuwabara." Koenma spoke wanting to know also, it irked him that even he hadn't been able to see beyond the barrier. "That is Kikyou, she's been dead for over five centuries. One has to be powerful to walk around with only a partial soul. Now what did she say to you Yusuke?"

"She said to tell you that sucking that thing will ruin your teeth. Seriously, she said Kurama's idea would be the best and she'd talk to the girl about it. She wants me to arrange it on this end." Yusuke wasn't going to tell them the rest, it wasn't their concern for now. He knew he couldn't keep the child's parentage a secret once it was born. As soon as Kurama and Kuwabara felt the child's aura the truth would come out. It would mean Keiko would have to be told, how would she take it? An image of her beating the shit out of him flashed through his mind. He'd be lucky if he got off that light.

"Is that all?" Koenma could tell he was leaving something out. What else had been spoken behind that barrier? Couldn't the woman had said all that without hiding them. It reinforced the fact that Yusuke was hiding something from them.

"That's all you need to know." His voice came out low and deadly, stating that he wouldn't tolerate the probing. "What else was said doesn't concern you, it's a personal matter. Don't ask again, any of you. Now, if Enma will accept me and Kurama watching over her for now, I got something to take care of. Call me later, once it's been taken care of."

Kagome stared at the ceiling letting Kikyou's words run through her mind. Somehow she should have known Kikyou would be able to see who the father was. She'd gotten her to promise to keep it between them for now. They both agreed Inuyasha didn't need to know. How was she going to face Yusuke again? She'd known about the child for awhile now and had kept it from him. He wouldn't have been able to find her after that night but she'd known where he lived. Yet she hadn't went to tell him. Would he understand her reason behind it? Or would he hold it against her? Kikyou said he knew the child was his now, so she couldn't lie about it. Not like she would have, who was she kidding? The thought of speaking to him again made her want to jump back through the well and never return. He was married, he had a wife.

If she had to let anyone guard her and the jewel, Yusuke wouldn't be that bad. It would mean having to be around him for the time being. That would probably happen either way, since he knew she carried his child. The fox that had made the suggestion seemed harmless enough. If she had to guess that was his friend Kurama. Her world had turned upside down in a matter of hours. How come hunting Naraku had seemed less complicated and stressful?

Inuyasha was downstairs making a fuss about the situation not wanting her going anywhere without him. Kikyou was trying to convince him it was time to let Kagome go. She would have someone else to protect her. Kagome had to agree with the woman, not that she minded Inuyasha watching over her. It still made her feel safe and secure but he was with Kikyou now. His top priority had to be his new life with her. He couldn't give himself to the other woman while worrying over her. Besides the child was Yusuke's, it made sense he'd want to protect him. Kikyou had said the aura felt like a male one, so Kagome would consider it to be a boy for now. If she agreed to this, she'd have to be prepared for a few things. Like the chance of seeing Yusuke and his wife together. She could do it, it had only been a one-night stand between them. They had never dated or promised anything to each other. Just a night of sex, incredible, unforgettable sex. She would be lying if she said that seeing him again caused something inside her to stir. It was the same as the first time she'd layed eyes upon him. Her soul had stirred along with her body.

What was it about him that caused the reaction? He was cute but she'd seen cuter. His fox friend could be considered more attractive but she'd felt nothing when looking at him. His body was very nice, lean but muscular; nice to run her fingers over. His smile did have a way of tugging at her heartstrings. Not to mention his eyes, she could get lost in them. If she had to pick what drew her the most it was his eyes. She could remember staring deep into them that night, while laying next to him. It had also felt so right to be held in his arms. Like coming home after being gone for far too long.

"Stop drooling Kagome." She scolded herself and rolled over in the bed. Her stomach pitched at the quick movement. If the stress didn't kill her the everyhour sickness would. Whomever the hell had come up with the term 'Morning Sickness' should be shot in her opinion. That was probably the only time when she didn't vomit.

Maybe spending sometime with him would be for the best. Then she could get over the infatuation that she had finally. They'd have a child together so she couldn't avoid him forever. Things would work out in the end, she had to believe that. It was the only way she'd be able to deal with it and not go crazy. Not to mention purify some people in the process of cracking.

She eyed the number that had been left for her once her decision was decided. Best to get it over and done with, she leaned over and grabbed the paper. There was no name written down, so who the hell was she calling? She picked up the cordless and dialed the number. It rang only twice before a soft voice spoke. "This is Kagome."

"Hello, are you feeling any better?"

"Actually, I feel like I need a trip to the bathroom. Who is this anyways? I like to know who I'm speaking with." Kagome felt her stomach jump as her nerves kicked in. Was she really going to do this? She couldn't chicken out now, time to get a backbone.

"Kurama, I don't think we were introduced earlier."

"Oh the kitsune, okay. I'll get this over quickly so I can go puke. I'll agree to it on two conditions. One, I'll be allowed to visit my family and friends. Two, my kit will be coming with me. I won't go anywhere without him. Both will be met or you and your boss can kiss my ass." Kagome heard him cover the phone, who was he talking to?

"Very well, I'll be over in thirty minutes to pick you both up. Please be ready." The line went dead.

"Nice talking to you too." She tossed the phone on the bed and called down to her mom. She pulled a suitcase out from under her bed and began packing. Her mother came in and knew what her decision was. Without trying to change her mind, she began to help. Her clothes went first, then her personal things she'd be needing. She hadn't had time to shop for Shippo, she'd see to that later. Everything was piled into the luggage while neither spoke. Kagome couldn't believe she was going to go through with it. It was for the best, it had to be.

Inuyasha wouldn't like it but she'd come to visit them as much as she could. She'd just be sleeping somewhere else for now. It would give him and Kikyou sometime alone to get closer. Her family already loved Inuyasha, they would welcome Kikyou as well. The only would she worried about was Shippo and he'd be with her the whole time. As long as she could keep her over reactive hormones under control everything should be peachy. Yeah, she could do this.

A knock came from the front door while she was in the kitchen talking to Gramps. She was also trying to eat a little bit before she left for the evening. She didn't know if this Kurama guy had anything to eat at his house. She was surprised with as much as she ate she hadn't gained fifty pounds yet. Half of it came up everyday but it still left some down. By the end of her pregnancy her ass would look like the side of a barn for sure. No matter how much she ate she was always hungry. She let her brother get the door.

Voices were heard while she tried to scarf down her food. Gramps yelled at her but his pleas went ignored. Like he knew what he was talking about. When was the last time he'd been pregnant? The drink slid down her throat washing down the meal. She refrained from belching as the food threatened to come back up. Souta came in to inform her that her ride was there.

Kagome walked out into the living room, steeling herself to see him again. Why couldn't the fox have come alone? Did Yusuke have to come with him? Her stomach pitched, "I'm ready. Come on Shippo, we have to go now." The kit jumped in her arms, while Kurama grabbed the suitcase her mother brought down.

"You aren't going anywhere!" Inuyasha spoke up, he grabbed her arm. "Leave and I'll come drag you back I swear. I'm not kidding Kagome. I won't allow you to leave with those two. You and Kikyou can talk all you want but you are safer with me. I will protect you." His voice was pleading, it made her heart ache.

"Inuyasha, I'll come see you but for now; SIT!" She felt the impact as he landed at her feet. "Let's get going before it wears off. I'll give you a call tomorrow." She smiled at her family ignoring the foul language directed at her. Inuyasha would have to accept things and let her go. Both men walked in front of her out to the waiting car. Shippo cuddled up against her, trying to give comfort. "I'll be okay."

"Yep, cause you have me here to protect you." Shippo grinned, thankful to be getting sometime away from the others. He liked Inuyasha but didn't care for Kikyou. The woman still made him nervous to no end. Plus the guy they'd be staying with was also a fox youkai.


Kagome tried to relax in the car, she was in the back. Yusuke and Kurama spoke quietly up front leaving her and Shippo to speak amongst themselves. Shame Shippo was sleeping soundly on the seat next to her. They were stopping by Yusuke's first it seemed. They planned on him staying for the two nights, while everything was arranged. She really didn't want to see his wife. It would make her feel worse than she already did. When they pulled into the parking lot both men got out leaving her alone in the car. Kurama asked her to come up but she declined saying that she didn't want to wake Shippo.

It was dark outside already, so she closed her eyes. Her stomach had yet to settle from earlier. If it kept up Kurama would be coming back to a surprise in his seat. The car only had two doors and the windows were up, she'd have hell trying to get out the door in time.

Several minutes later yelling was heard as the two men began to approach the vehicle. One belonged to Yusuke the other to a female. Kagome groaned to herself, her mouth began to water accompanied by a large lump in her throat. She jumped forward trying to fumble with the door handle. She got it open and fell out on her hands before emptying her stomach onto the pavement.

The sound of her retching caused all conversation to stop. Kagome felt her cheeks turn red as footsteps approached quickly. Her stomach wasn't done it seemed. Her throat constricted and another wave hit her, the sound of it hitting the ground was heard. Hands reached down to pull her hair aside, keeping the vomit from reaching the long strands. She closed her eyes not wanting to see them watching her.

Kurama tried to get all the strands up, while the bout hit her. He had suspected that she was feeling ill. Keiko and Yusuke stood off to the side waiting until she finished. He was about to ask if she was okay when she began to gag again. Not much came up besides stomach acid, seemed she'd emptied her stomach. Her face was flushed, her temperature was slightly raised. The stress couldn't be good for her or the child. "Keiko can you run upstairs and get me a wet cloth?"

"Sure."

Kagome took a deep breath willing her stupid stomach to settle down already. She loved her mom's cooking but had no desire to taste it twice. "Tasted better going down." She muttered to herself before opening her eyes. She peered into large green eyes that were filled with concern.

"Let me help you out of the car, some fresh air might help." Kurama put his arms around her without stepping in the mess she'd made. He saw her blush at how close it put them but ignored it. He helped her to lean on the car away from the smell. His hand went to her face, she looked a little better. "Do you still feel sick?"

"I'm okay, just give me a few minutes. I shouldn't have ate before leaving, atleast I made it out the car." She tried to joke about it to cover up her embarrassment. Why couldn't it have waited until she had a toilet available? Maybe she should have taken her time eating.

"Yes, we should be thankful for that." He smiled at her trying to relax her some, he could sense the anxiety rolling off her. Keiko came back then with what he'd asked for. He took the rag from her and began cleaning the miko's face. She tried to protest about being cleaned off like a child. His eyes roamed over her face as he cleaned, taking in her features. Everything about her seemed to be delicate, she was also very pretty. Kurama let his hand linger on the girl's face while she stared down at the pavement. Her eyes held a deep sadness, sorrow that went all the way to the soul. His thumb ran over her cheek causing her to look up at him again. He stiffened when he felt Yusuke's aura pick up, anger was rolling off him in waves.
