Part 3

Title: The Bridge

Pairing: Inuyasha and Kagome, and Miroku and Sango (I know what your saying. Roku and Sango aren't even in the fic yet, but don't worry I can't keep the perverted monk away...)

Disclaimer: Unfortunately I don't own the lovely, handsome, Inu Hanyou Inuyasha or his anime show or manga volumes, all that and more is owned by the amazing Rumiko Takahashi whom I admire to no ends. Although nov. 8th I will own the second season on dvd. *dances*

Warning: Yadda yadda lemon yadda yadda rape yadda yadda don't like it, don't read it, don't flame it...

Other Warning: Fluffy fluffiness is yummy in my opinion, if you don't like it stay away.

AN: Well my dear readers you asked for an update so I, your humble author, am providing it. And good news to all Inu starved peps out there this chapter is writted almost entirely in Inuyasha perspective. So enjoy. Also *grins wickedly* I couldn't help it, I HAD to put him in... He's just so... beautifully cold. (You'll see who I'm talking about, although most of you can probably guess.)

Part 3

A fine mist once again loomed over the deserted play park, as a lone pair of golden eyes surveyed from a high tree branch. Inuyasha’s enhanced vision picking up the slightest movements of the swing sets in the eerie glow of the moon.

His expression was pensive as he wondered if he should really go back. That girl, whoever she was, was very intriguing and (much to his dissatisfaction) had occupied his thoughts for the entire night. He clicked his fangs together in thought and turned his gaze to the moon. He only had a few minutes to decide.

It couldn’t hurt to go could it? His half brother’s words suddenly flashed through his head. Yeah it would hurt, that would be his worthless opinion. But since when had Inuyasha paid any attention to that fucked up bastard? With a new resolution Inuyasha leaned back in his tree and waited. Even if he was going down he wouldn’t appear like he was waiting for her like he had nothing better to do.

Then he saw her, midnight black hair flowing around her shoulders in the breeze, blue eyes flashing brightly even from this distance. Her warm breath turning to white mist as she deliberately walked forward towards their so called meeting place.

Kagome’s tennis shoes once again crunched on the sand of the play park as she walked towards the bridge. One quick glance had told her that Inuyasha wasn’t there, or at least he wasn’t there yet. She refused to give up hope that he wasn’t coming. Kagome was determined to see him again even if she had to search through all of Japan. He couldn’t lose her that easily.

Taking her seat on the bridge, Kagome once again surveyed the area, praying with every fiber of her body that Inuyasha would come.

Inuyasha continued to stare down at Kagome, his unblinking golden gaze invisible to the young school girl. He could feel the hope and determination radiating from her body as she looked around, as if hoping to find something dear to her. Was he really that important to the girl? He didn’t stop to think about it as he felt a strange emotion taking over his body. Suddenly he wanted to do everything he could to give the girl what she wanted, and right now what she wanted was him.

Standing silently on the tree branch Inuyasha took a carefully measured jump and landed a few feet in front of the girl.

Kagome bit back a scream when Inuyasha landed in front of her, her heart pounding in her chest. Taking carefully measured breaths she turned to face the impossible demon in front of her. “Was that really necessary? You freaked me out!”

“Keh! It’s not my fault you humans are so jumpy. You should be glad I came at all!” Inuyasha replied with his standard snippy attitude. Consequentially making Kagome’s temper flare into life, however briefly.

“I am glad Inuyasha! Now we can get to know each other better.” Kagome replied with a smile, motioning for Inuyasha to take a seat next to her.

The young dog demon twitched just a bit and his gaze slid from the ground to the spot next to Kagome. Finally, after making a few indifferent sounds of protest, he sat down as far away as possible from the young school girl.

“Remind me why I’m here again.” Inuyasha drawled in a bored voice.

“Hmph, you’re here because I wanted you to be.” Kagome said, crossing her arms over her chest and turning away from him. All thoughts of kindness and warmth for the guy had vanished and right now all she saw was a guy looking to pick a fight. Well she would give him a run for his money.

“Well I might as well leave then right?” Inuyasha said sarcastically, a small smirk coming onto his face.

Kagome remained with her arms crossed, “Like you have anything better to do puppy boy. You came back cause you wanted to and you know it.”

Inuyasha “keh-ed” and turned away from the impossibly bitchy school girl whom he couldn’t stand and muttered darkly, “As if.”

“Oh great come back.” Kagome muttered, in an equally dark voice.

Inuyasha turned to face her and informed her in a dead serious tone, “You’re a real bitch aren’t you?”

“Better that than a stuck up dog demon who only cares about himself.” Kagome retorted, her hands clenched into fists.

“If I only cared about myself I wouldn’t be here would I?” Inuyasha said in a low voice before he could stop himself. Immediately after a light tinge of pink appeared on his cheeks and he opened his mouth furiously, only to find that his air way seemed to be blocked.

A triumphant smile appeared on Kagome’s face, making her beautiful blue eyes light up in the moonlight. “Ha! I knew you cared!” She said turning to face Inuyasha, her opinion of him switching from bad to good faster than a set of traffic lights.

“That’s not – I didn’t – Stop looking at me like that!” He sputtered, unable to turn away from Kagome’s smiling face.

Kagome merely sighed and leaned back on the bridge as she had the pervious night, looking up at the stars with a fascinated expression on her face. Inuyasha turned to look at her, unable to stop himself, that feeling of immense curiosity coming over him again. He wanted to know everything about this girl, but he also wanted to shut her out of his life forever if only to spare him the embarrassment of admitting he cared about her. Everything was too confusing.

Kagome turned to look at Inuyasha, expecting him to look away, but to her astonishment he did not. Now why was he looking at her like that? Part of her liked it but still... weird.

For a few seconds, minutes, hours who knew what time had passed the two merely looked at each other. Then Kagome, acting entirely without control, sat back up and continued to stare at Inuyasha.

“Hey... Inuyasha...” She whispered, not daring to speak up and not believing what she was doing.

“What?” He asked, some of the initial gruffness suspiciously absent from his voice.

“I want to...” Kagome trailed off, her gaz flicking upwards towards the fuzzy ears on his head.

Inuyasha froze, still unable to turn away although he knew exactly what was happening. He could merely flinch in wonder and surprise as Kagome’s soft fingers made contact with his sensitive ears.

Kagome blushed a bit and began to rub her fingers in a circular motion, the warm fur and skin under her fingertips feeling exciting and new.

After a few minutes Inuyasha finally seemed to regain the use of his limbs and immediately flattened his ears and scooted away from her, sending death glares at the girl. “What the hell was that for?”

Kagome bit back a laugh and merely giggled silently as she shifted her gaze from Inuyasha to her hands in her lap and back again. “Gomen Inuyasha but I have been wanting to do that since we met.” She burst into another fit of silent giggles as Inuyasha pondered what had just happened.

His ears twitched, subconsciously missing the warm touch of Kagome’s fingertips. But he merely “keh-ed” and turned away from her, muttering curses and threats under his breath.

“Hey Inuyasha what’s the time?” Kagome asked, having finally gotten over her laughter.

Inuyasha turned to glare at her before replying, “Ten.” Then watched as Kagome’s face paled and she groaned, flopping back on her back again.

“Great and I still have to finish my math homework.” She said to herself with another heavy sigh that spoke of dread.

“Keh, who needs math anyway?” Inuyasha said with a shrug.

Kagome narrowed her eyes and said darkly, “That’s what I want to know. I think that my teachers are just out to get me this year. Anyway I should probably be getting home. I expect to see you here tomorrow Inuyasha, and don’t even think about bailing on me.”

With those last words Kagome jumped down from the bridge and took off in the direction of her house, pausing a moment to wave back at him. Inuyasha paused a moment before returning the wave half heartedly.

What was happening to him, he was actually excited about seeing her again. Was he going mental or something? Inuyasha shook his head and continued to sit there under the light of the moon.

What was so wrong about seeing her anyway? His eyes darkened. No everything was wrong with it. She was a young, defenseless, human girl with an impossibly kind heart. She should be hanging around with people like her, definitely not with someone like him. Inuyasha felt his mood darken, as much as he wanted to see her again, which was more than he wanted to admit, he knew he shouldn’t. Demons and humans shouldn’t be together, he was the ultimate proof of that.

Growling angrily at the horrible memories which this Kagome girl was able to resurface for him he stood up and began to walk off towards the forest. Hopefully if he never saw her again things would go back to the way they were, but the ultimate question was did he want them too?

Too much to think about. Since when did he have so much on his mind? It wasn’t safe when he was busy fighting off demons that wanted to purge him from the earth.

Suddenly he froze in his tracks, he was now deep in the forest, and he had just caught sight of something he really didn’t want to see. His golden eyes flicked around, hoping desperately not to catch another glimpse of silver. Then he saw it, a figure out of the corner of his eye, but enough to send a twinge of fear strait through his heart.

“Stop hiding you bastard, come out and face me.” The icy words caught on the cold air, hanging dead in the windless night sky.

Then he appeared, that worthless, idiotic bastard that was his brother, no correction his half-brother, thank Kami.
Long silver hair, gold eyes, claws, and fangs were the only similarities between the brothers. Where Inuyasha acted rough and course, his brother stood proud and graceful. His cold stare and expressionless face falling onto his brother’s and adopting a look of detached pity, as though it was horrible for him to be on the same planet as something as vile as Inuyasha.

He was dressed in expensive, white clothing and had the posture of someone who thought himself infinitely better than everyone else. Unlike Inuyasha, his brother carried the markings of a full Inu Youkai. Two magenta strips on his cheeks and a blue crescent moon on his forehead. Matching stripes also adorned his wrists, contrasting with his stark white skin.

“To what do I owe the displeasure of your visit Sesshoumaru?” Inuyasha said sarcastically, immediately adapting his fight stance, ready to spring if Sesshoumaru made a move on him.

Sesshoumaru chose to ignore his brother’s comment and merely gazed down at him before saying in a completely unemotional monotone, “I see that you have once again fallen pray to a human wench. Tell me little brother, what is it about them that you find so fascinating?”

Inuyasha’s jaw set as he gazed at his brother with the deadliest glare he could muster. He hated everything about his elder brother from his perfect clothing to his superior attitude and he wouldn’t rest until he saw him ground into a bloody pulp and eaten for breakfast by a horde of demons.

“If you want a fight stop beating around the bush and lets go!”

“Inuyasha, you fail to realize once again that if this Sesshoumaru wanted you dead you would be dead.” Sesshoumaru’s eyes narrowed as he took a gliding step towards Inuyasha.

“In your fucking dreams asshole!” Inuyasha yelled, finally snapping as he charged at his brother, wanting nothing more than to rip him into pieces.

Sesshoumaru almost lazily flicked his wrist. A glowing green energy whip formed and lashed out, slamming into Inuyasha’s stomach and sending him flying into a tree.

Inuyasha winced slightly as he saw his own blood staining his shirt where the whip had cut into his stomach. He got to his feet, more determined than ever to hack his brother to pieces.

He charged again, dodging the whip as he neared his brother he dug his claws into the wound on his chest and yelled, “Blades of blood!” He unleashed the attack, five razor sharp red blades heading strait for Sesshoumaru.

His brother dodged at the last moment, the attack barely grazing his left shoulder. “Brother how many times have I told you. Your weaker mixed blood can not harm me, neither can your half wit attacks. It would be below me to kill something as harmless as you. Why your no stronger than your human mother.”

Inuyasha growled low in his chest, but Sesshoumaru merely ignored him, in a flash of youkai energy he was gone from Inuyasha’s sight.

“Good for nothing bastard. Weak my ass, someday he’s going to have the honor of being defeated by this weak hanyou.” Inuyasha said darkly, pulling himself upright again and touching a hand to his wound tenderly. Thankfully it wasn’t a bad as it looked, but still that bastard would pay.

AN: You know that little thing I have about reviews? How I am completely obsessed with them? Well help me through my obsession by rating and reviewing. Arigato! Also thank you to all the people who have been reviewing. I owe almost everything to you!

AN#2: Hehehe, I think I screwed up Sesshy's personality but I was writing this at three in the morning (I suffer from insomia, or at least I'm pretty sure I do). Anyway I have written two Sesshoumaru fics before and I am positive he wouldn't just walk away like that, but like I said I was tired. Maybe I will go back and play with it a bit when I am not tired, or when I have Starbucks, or my muse Vince.
