Thank you all so much for all the reviews, I only hope I can write up to all of your expectations.
As for adding people to my alert list, I don't know how to do that so I'm sorry.

Chapter 2 – Rin’s Guardian Family

Rin gawked at the inuyorkai; he had silver hair and gold eyes. ‘My God, how many can there be?’ Rin bowed respectfully.

“Ah Rin, you look so much like your mother.” Inutashio said gently. He had been a good friend with Rin’s father throughout his life, and Rin’s mother was indeed lovely; it was no wonder that Michio married her. And he, Inutashio, had been named Rin’s and her older brother, Toshiro’s guardian should anything happen to Michio and Sakura. Sadly something had.

Rin nodded, she was in shock. Tensaiga. She was going to live with Sess. The one person that had ever made her tingle all over at once, and she was going to live with him.

Kameko and Rin said their good-byes and Rin put her things in the durango. During the drive Rin stared out the window at the passing scenery. “You are quiet.” Inutashio stated. “I know you have lost a lot in a very short period of time and it will take you time to heal. I only hope that I can help during that time.” Rin didn’t respond.

“I have two boys about your age. Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha, you might have seen them at school today.”

Rin nodded.

“Ah, Sess can be cold and he might not talk to you much but that is just his way. Inuyasha will be your friend though; he is an active and friendly boy. He has many friends that you might want to get to know. Let me think, some girls’ names are Kagome, Sango, and Ayame. You all might get along; I believe you know Ayame from when you were here before.

Rin nodded again. She was now looking between Inutashio and the road ahead of them.

“Good. Well, it shouldn’t take you long to make new friends.” He turned the vehicle into a driveway that went past a stone and iron gate that surrounded the property. “It’s just for show.” He said as Rin stared at the massive iron fence.

He pulled the durango up next to Sess’s corvette and stopped it. “Well here we are.” Rin got out of the car and looked into Sess’s. He’d left his binder on the passenger seat. “That’s Sesshoumaru’s car.” Inutaisho provided. “Well come on Rin let’s get you settled.” Inutashio led the way into the house.

Sess was up in his room listening to metallica when he heard his father’s vehicle pull up. ‘Strange, he isn’t due home for another few hours.’ He thought to himself and dismissed it as just an early day.

Sess leaned back against his wall and closed his eyes, letting his mind wander. To Rin. ‘She doesn’t speak, meaning she needs protection of some sort from someone. Why do I feel as if I’m the one to protect her? Why not someone else? A human, she is human, she should find another human to protect her. Why should I feel responsible? Do I desire her? A human? Impossible! I am a demon. I am pure. I won’t degrade and dishonor myself and all I represent for a human!’

Her smell hit him. Rin. She was here, with his father? She couldn’t be, could she? Could she be the ‘little girl’ that had just lost her family? And who was going to live with him and his family? Sess practically leapt off of his bed and nearly flew down the hallway to the stairs.

Rin looked around the spacious entryway. There was a hallway leading into the back of the house, a room to her left and a room to her right, along with stairs leading up in front of her. She looked up the stairs just in time to see Sess walk around the corner only to stop and stare down at her.

“Oh, Sess do me a favor and help Rin move her belongings upstairs.” Inutashio turned to look at Rin, “Once your settled in you’ll feel better.” He smiled and nodded to his son who was making his way down the stairs and walked off into the back of the house. ‘I wonder if Sess remembers her?’

Sess walked down the stairs and past Rin, taking in her scent, that scent had been toying with his senses all day. She smelled of wildflowers fresh after a spring rain, but the smell was still better than he had remembered.

He walked out to his father’s durango and opened the back. He blinked; all she had was a shoulder bag, two suitcases and two boxes. Could the girl really have fit her entire life in just this? The boxes were stacked so he grabbed them and turned to go back in the house. Rin, who had followed, grabbed the bag and two suitcases and pulled them out and closed the door. She grabbed a suitcase in each hand with the bag over her shoulder and lifted them enough to drag them towards the house. She reached the front door when Sess reappeared and took the suitcases from her, carrying them with ease, and walked up the stairs again. Rin closed the door and followed him.

He had already gone up the stairs and turned to the right. Rin did the same and looked into the door that was almost immediately on her left it was the bathroom. There were two other doors down the hallway, the one on the right was closed and the one on the left was open. Rin walked up to the open door. Sess had set the boxes in the middle of the room and was now placing the suitcases at the foot of the bed.

The room was big in size; she had a dresser, small shelf, and TV on the same wall as the door. The bed was in the corner to her left with the TV facing it, on the same wall there was a stand by the bed with an alarm clock and a touch lamp on it, and a closet with mirrors on the sliding doors. On the wall to her right was a window seat, and walking around the bedroom door there was another door that lead out to a balcony. The room was done in pastel pink, green, yellow and white, with light floral, and the canopy bed hangings were solid colors but transparent fabric. It was girly and beautiful.

Rin stood in the middle of the room with Sess watching her from the doorway, waiting for a reaction, something. Rin’s eyes started to water. The room was beautiful; it looked like a guest room though. No personal touches no nothing. It wasn’t her room. Her room was back with her family, in America. This wasn’t home.

Sess smelled the tears before they could fall; he wasn’t sure what to do. This girl had been strong all day, it was only right to give her a break and let her mourn. He turned to walk out of the room completely, but paused long enough to say: “I am sorry for your loss.” What else could he say?

Rin dropped to her knees and doubled over. Hot tears fell from her eyes as she heaved. ‘This is home now. Father, Mother, and Toshiro are gone, you can’t change it, they’re gone, you couldn’t save them, and they won’t come back for you.’ She sobbed. ‘You have no family. You’re an orphan. Alone.’ Rin heaved again. ‘I… I can’t… I couldn’t…’

Sess stared at the girl, she was grieving, and he should leave her be. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t leave her like this. She needed someone, even if that someone was him. He walked over to her and gently picked her up, one arm under her knees, the other around her back. She grabbed his shirt and continued crying. He carried her out of her room and straight across the hall, opened his door and walked in. He kicked the door shut and carried Rin over to his bed and laid her down gently, she curled into a ball. He turned to his stereo, turned it on and down. He then scooped Rin back up into his arms and sat on the bed with his back against the wall and placed her in his lap. He silently stroked her hair and held her, waiting for the tears to stop. ‘What is it about this girl that makes me so soft?’

Nearly an hour later found Sess still holding Rin, now exhausted from crying and only hiccupping now and then. She was falling asleep. Her eyes were closed and her breathing was evening out. Her lashes were still wet and clung together, her lips red and swollen, her nose red, and her face flushed. ‘She’s so beautiful.’ Sess stared at Rin’s face. ‘She is special somehow; I can’t explain it.’ Sess shifted her slightly and growled softly, comfortingly, when she moaned in protest. ‘No one will ever know just how I feel about this woman, this… Rin.’ Sess paused in his thoughts. He could hear his father was walking down the hall. ‘Well so much for that idea.’ Sess put on a mask of indifference since he wasn’t about to put Rin down, not yet.

A knock sounded on the door, there was nothing to be done. “Enter.” Sess said quietly. The door opened and his father stood there. He was going to say something but the sight that presented itself left him speechless. His cold-hearted, selfish, thinks he’s too good for humans son was holding Rin. No, not holding, cuddling, he was cuddling Rin in his lap. Inutaisho stood there for a full minute not even trying to talk, just staring.

“Are you here for a reason or did you just come to stare?” Sess snapped his father out of his daze.

“I was looking to see if Rin was OK, I smelled tears a while ago and thought I should just leave her be. I came up to see if there was anything I could get for her, now I see that you have beat me to her.” Inutaisho had a smug grin on his face. “So, what’s going on between the two of you?”

“Nothing.” Sess replied. He really didn’t feel like telling a human-lover that his son was falling for a human.

“Well, then I’ll just leave you two to that ‘nothing’.” Inutashio smirked before becoming serious. “You’ll let me know if she needs anything?” Concern for the child before him showing in his eyes. He knew what had happened to the child and her family. He couldn’t begin to imagine what it was like for her. To have seen what she has, been through what she has, and survive like she has.

Sess nodded his head and watched as his father quietly left the room, closing the door softly behind him. Sess sighed and looked down at the girl asleep in his arms. He gently leaned over enough to lay her on the bed next to him and got up, covering her with his blanket. ‘Maybe her scent will linger a little.’ Sess walked out of the room.

He crossed the hall and walked into her room. It didn’t smell like her yet. Rin’s smell was unique, and it was coming out of her suitcases and boxes. Sess walked over to one of the boxes and opened it. Stuffed animals, a blanket, music books, CDs, DVDs, a photo album, a few framed photos, and so on; just some average ‘girlie’ stuff. He opened the other box. Books. Lots and lots of books. ‘No wonder it was so heavy for such a small box. Sess look from the box in front of him to the shelf on the dresser. It was the only shelf in the room. He picked up a book, ‘The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Mythology’. He walked over to the shelf and placed it there. Back to the box, ‘Good Faeries Bad Faeries’, back to the shelf. ‘The Art of Amy Brown’, ‘The Book of Virtues’, ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘J. R.R. Tolkien’, a few school year books, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Harry Potter’, and so on the list went. Sess placed each book on the shelf with care.

He placed the last book on the shelf and looked to the empty box. ‘Did I really just do that?’ He looked to the other box, he sighed and walked over to it. He picked up a stuffed animal, it was a bunny in a baby doll dress with a bonnet, hand made, with an old lipstick stain beside the mouth. He placed it on the window seat. He pulled out the others and placed them window seat as well. He looked into the box again and saw a crocheted zigzag afghan and pulled it out. It smelled of her, he gently laid it across the foot of the bed. He pulled a framed photo out next; it was of her and her family.

It was a bright and sunny day; the family was on the coast somewhere. Rin and her brother were in front on their knees while their parents were sitting on a low stone wall behind them. They all had huge grins on their faces. But what really caught Sess’s eye, or rather whom, was Rin’s Father. He had long gold hair, stripes on his cheeks, gold eyes, and fangs. He was a demon, an inuyorkai. Sess stared at the picture in shock. ‘That means…’

Rin is a half-demon.
