Pain of Love
~*~Chapter Three~*~
~Pain of Love~
“Kagome, you can't stay home from school after you've been going for so long just because you think you've seen Inuyasha,” Mrs. Higurashi said in a kind voice, trying to soothe her daughter that morning.
Kagome was shaking like crazy. “M-Mom . . . Please . . . I just need some time alone . . . time to think . . . I need to get my mind off of him mom. I can't continue to think of him or I won't be able to get through life anymore mom!”
“That's the pain of love,” her mother said softly.
“Huh? Pain of love? What do you mean?”
“It's when you're so much in love and when someone leaves you, you think you can't live without that person and you hurt so bad inside, it feels like you're going to die right there.”
“But mom, this is different! He didn't LEAVE me! We were never going together! And he didn't just die, mom! I killed him!” Kagome exclaimed. “There's a difference between when someone you love leaves you than when you KILL someone you love.”
Her mother shook her head. “As different as it sounds, it's really not all that different. Because Inuyasha died, and in doing so, he still left you, whether he or you wanted him to or not. And you have this pain inside your heart that just makes you want to die. You don't want to live without that person, and it hurts so bad, it almost feels like you're going to die right there.”
“But . . . How do you know?” Kagome asked.
Mrs. Higurashi's face became sad and she turned her head. “Your father and I married many years ago at the old church a few blocks away. We were very happy. You do remember your father don't you?”
“Yeah . . . Well . . . A little. I was only seven when he died.”
“Yeah . . . It wasn't long after Souta was born that he died and you know what you're feeling right now?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I felt the same way you did when your father died. Don't you remember how sick I became after he died.”
“Yeah . . . I wanted to strangle you so bad! You wouldn't eat or drink anything! All you did was sleep!”
“How do you think I felt when all you did was sleep after that incident with Inuyasha?” her mother retorted.
Kagome gave her a guilty smile.
“All though, I was very worried about you. However, I can't really blame you for wanting to sleep so much. Your situation is just slightly different than mine. The only similarity is that we both lost someone we loved through death, only you killed yours.”
“Don't remind me.”
“I'm not trying to, I'm just saying,” her mother said.
Kagome sighed. “So, I guess it's not that different,” Kagome said. “Only . . . I'm more depressed than you were because of the fact that I killed the one I loved and the one you loved died of an illness. Either way, they were both killed by something.”
Mrs. Higurashi nodded. “Now, do me a favor and please try to get through the school day Kagome. I would really appreciate it. If you can't do it, just call me and I'll come to get you.”
Kagome smiled. “Thanks mom.”
“You're welcome,” Mrs. Higurashi said. She gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek and left the room, closing the door behind her to give Kagome some privacy while she dressed.
Moments later, Kagome came downstairs, dressed in her school uniform. “Mom, is there time for breakfast?” Kagome called out as she reached the bottom step.
“Yes, sweetie, you have about twenty minutes still before you have to leave.”
“Huh? What did you wake me up so early for?!” Kagome shouted.
“Because I knew something was bothering you and I had a gut feeling you would give me a problem about going to school, so I woke you up earlier so you wouldn't be late.”
“Thanks, but still. Why did you wake me up so early?”
“I just told you.”
Kagome huffed and stomped into the kitchen, very grouchy for being woke up so early.
Souta steered into the kitchen making little car noises. “Morning mom! Morning sis!” he exclaimed.
“Please stop making that noise . . .” Kagome groaned. “I'm very grouchy and I don't think you want to deal with me.”
“Sorry sis, and no, I really don't want to deal with you when you're grouchy.”
“Gee, thanks,” Kagome said.
Souta just gave her a smile and said, “Don't worry, I deal with ya anyways if I have to.”
Mrs. Higurashi set down a plate of pancakes and sausage down in front of Souta and Kagome. Then she gave them each a glass of orange juice. “Eat up, and eat quickly so you can leave on time. Souta, I don't want you leaving any later than fifteen minutes after Kagome leaves.”
“Yes mom,” Souta said after shoving a huge forkful of pancakes in his mouth.
All through breakfast, Souta ate with a huge smile on his face like he always does.
'At least he's able to be happy. He's never had to handle a loss like my mother and I have. Poor guy . . . He never even knew dad, and he never even got a chance to know him either.' Kagome was deep in thought while she ate and walked to school that she didn't even realize it until she literally bumped into Inuyasha. “Whoa!! OW!!” She fell and landed right on her ass.
Inuyasha just fell back a little bit. “Stupid girl! Don't ya know how to watch where you're going?!” he demanded.
“Huh?” Kagome looked up to see Inuyasha standing over her, only, she didn't see the Inuyasha that was standing over her now. She seen the Inuyasha with long black hair and midnight blue eyes and a red kimono on instead of the one with short black hair and a school uniform on.
“What are you gawking at? Get up!” he exclaimed. He held out his hand and when she grabbed it, he literally pulled her up. What really surprised Kagome is that he put his hand up to her forehead and asked, “Do you have a fever or something? You look kinda pale.” He felt her cheeks and forehead and then felt his own. “Nope. You're normal. Come on. I'll be nice enough to walk you class but after that, you're on your own.”
Kagome put on a face that she always put on when Inuyasha did this to her and thought, 'This is definitely Inuyasha . . . And his attitude hasn't changed in the least bit. Wait a minute . . .' She reached into her bag that she usually brings to school just in case she wants to sneak in something, like Inuyasha's kimono for instance, and pulled out the rosary.
“Keh. What are you doing?”
“Inuyasha?”
He backed away real fast. “How the HELL do you know my name?! I've never even TOLD you my name before. I haven't even MET you before no less!”
Kagome just smiled and shook her head. “It's hard to explain, but I HAVE met you before. Come here. I want to see if this still works.”
He backed up a step. “I'm not putting that damned thing on unless you tell me what the fuck that thing is.”
“It's a rosary,” Kagome said innocently.
“What does it do?”
“Nothing,” she lied.
Inuyasha growled lowly in his throat and thought, 'Something is so familiar about her, but even if she is familiar I don't trust her and there's no way I'm trying that damned thing on!' He looked at her straight in the eye and said, “You may look familiar to me from somewhere, but there's no way in HELL I'm trusting you with that thing in your hand! I've had dreams about rosaries before and I don't like what THAT one looks like!”
“Really? What does it look like?” Kagome asked, while she thought, 'The fowl language hasn't changed much either.'
“The same god damned rosary in my dream.”
“Oh, so now it's a god damned rosary instead of a rosary.”
“Don't be a smart ass with me!” Inuyasha shouted.
“Just come here,” Kagome said.
“No!”
Kagome glared at him and said, “Fine. You leave me with absolutely no choice.” She held out her hands where the rosary lay and whispered a chant. It rose up in the air and floated above them. Then she whispered something else and the beads broke apart and, one by one, each bead began to form around Inuyasha's neck. She let out a triumphant, “Humph,” and said, “I know what you really are Inuyasha. You may not remember me but I sure as hell remember you!” Tears began to roll down her cheeks. “It seems only yesterday that it happened but it's still perfectly clear in my mind!”
Inuyasha looked at her, completely, 100% confused. “What do you mean?” he asked, weakened by her tears. He's never been able to stand it when a girl cries.
“I just . . . I . . .” Kagome couldn't say anymore, so she just lowered down to the ground and started bawling.
“Uh . . . wait . . . I didn't . . . I didn't mean . . . ARRGH! Just please stop crying!” he exclaimed. Kagome still wouldn't stop so he walked over to her and said, “I'm sorry okay? Look, I'll walk you to your classes, go to lunch with you and even take you out to dinner tonight as an apology for my rudeness okay? Will that work?”
“Huh?” Kagome looked up at him. She sighed. “I wasn't crying because you were rude to me.”
“Then what is it?!”
She sighed. “Never mind. You'd either hate me, or just think I'm plain crazy.” She turned away from him and thought, 'This is exactly what my mom was talking about. Pain of love. Even though he's right here with me. He's so different yet so similar as before and it still hurts. Maybe one of these days he'll remember and maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to tell him how I feel for him and hear how he really feels for me.'
Inuyasha growled and looked at her. “Okay, you're creeping me out with that thoughtful look on your face. Look, I'll still do what I said I'd do and maybe we can talk this out okay?”
Kagome nodded and said, “Okay, but you don't have to.”
Inuyasha shook his head and said, “No, I want to. Besides, I think there's something you might be able to tell me.” The anger on his face was completely wiped away as he said, “I think you can tell me about my dreams that I've been having.”
Kagome just looked at him. “What do you mean you think I can tell you about these dreams you've been having?” she asked, a very confuse look on her face. (Knowing Kagome and if you watch the real Inuyasha shows you'd know what she'd look like right now.)
Sighing, Inuyasha turned away and said, “I'll discuss it with you at dinner okay? I'll pick you up at seven and bring you home between midnight and one thirty. Your mom won't mind will she?”
Kagome shook her head. “No. It's Saturday, so I don't see why she would.”
“Good. Because I have a lot to tell you and I think you might be able to help me with it.” He turned to face her again. “First thing though. I want to know. Is your name Kagome?”
“Yes.”
“Are you a miko?”
“This may sound stupid, but have you ever been able to pass through a well that leads to a different time?”
“Many times.”
“Have you ever heard of the Shikon no Tama, or the Sacred Jewel as a lot of people know it as?”
“Yeah. Why?”
He turned and ignored her question as he said, “Good. I think my questions will be answered now. Then maybe, just maybe I think I'll be able to know you more. You're the one in my dream. The one that killed me in my dream. Tell me, is it true?”
Tears nearly ran down Kagome's cheeks as she said, “Maybe we better discuss it over dinner okay?”
