Chapter Two
"Get back here!" Kagome ran out the side door trying to catch the ten year old boy running off with her panties. Her bare feet padded over the wooden floor. 'I'm going to stangle him.' The now eighteen year old miko swore to herself. She'd been helping out at the shelter for almost seventeen months now. Everyday was exciting and full of suprises for her. Upon arriving she'd seen Taree again, who welcomed her while bouncing up and down. She'd also been introduced to Mai, a girl the complete opposite of Taree. One was hyper and cheerful while the other was quiet and sullen most the time.
Getting settled in and becoming comfortable had taken awhile for Kagome. Taree of course had went out her way to befriend her. The girl was a little strange and it wasn't long before Kagome found out why. Besides having a small amount of miko powers the girl's main ability seemed to be animals. After dinner one day Kagome walked out to find her talking to a cat. Her first thought had been to call the paddy wagon. Then Taree had shown her that she had the ability to talk and understand animals. Mai on the other had the ability of flame. She'd come to the center herself after hurting a few people on accident. After three years she knew how to control it.
Both girls warmed up to her and Kagome had close friends once more. Friends that she could be herself with. People that were even stranger than herself. Mai was very good at martial arts and trained the other two on the weekends. The days were filled with the kids that stopped by needing to talk. Kids that just needed someone to be there for them.
Kagome saw the thief take a left heading outside, right to the other kids. "Little twerp!" She rushed out the double doors in time to see him holding her panties up for everyone to see. She recognized the group of five instantly, all of them were trouble makers.
Mai walked over and snatched the garment out of his hand. She swatted him in the back of the head. He turned and glared at her, "I'm going to tell, you hit me."
"I'll just hit you again brat." She walked over handing Kagome her underpants. "Here, now you know why we keep our room locked. Be thankful it wasn't anything embarassing."
Kagome didn't want to ask what she thought embarassing would be. At her look the girl answered. "Imagine them running out with your tampons."
"Ouch, where's Tar?"
"I think she went on a walk with Styles. Do you think you can handle them until she gets back. It's my day to make dinner." Mai nodded towards the boys, who were hunkered down scheming. She stood three inches taller than Kagome which put her five over Tar. Mai was also blonde with the classic deep blue eyes, face and body to die for. Her personality didn't match her looks.
"I'll try." Kagome watched her walk inside and tucked her panties in her pocket. She took a seat and looked around to check on the other two kids. A small girl was sitting by herself playing with her doll. Another girl was running around the large tree centered in the yard. She was singing to herself, unaware of the others. At the moment only seven children were staying with them. Five too many in Kagome's opinion. The girls she could handle it was the boys that gave everyone a hard time.
Somedays were hectic, others were relaxing. Kagome had found her purpose in this place. Even if the boys gave her a hard time, they all had needs. She knew she'd become someone special to them all. Tomorrow they'd be going to the park with all seven kids. As long as they didn't get into anymore trouble.
Dinner was peaceful that night, the boys on their best behavior for obvious reasons. They enjoyed going out with all three girls. Of course when they got to said destination all hell would break loose. Seven kids ranging from the age five to ten was a lot to deal with. Well eight kids if you counted Taree, sometimes she was just as bad.
"We still going on the picnic tomorrow?" Aiko, the smallest girl asked.
"Yes, as long as all of you go to bed when you're suppose to. Thats means we don't want to hear any horsing around either." Mai stated.
The kids finished dinner and went to watch television till time for bed. Kagome looked up from her plate to see Tar staring at her. "What?"
"Just thinking. Should we take the ball with us tomorrow. A game of dodge ball might be fun for the kids to play."
"You mean you want to play." Kagome took a sip of her water. If she hadn't see Tar's I.D. and if not for the small but noticable breast, Kagome would believe that she was no older than ten.
"Well yeah, it'll be fun. We can play for awhile then have lunch. Besides Style needs some good excercise, he's getting too lazy. I told him so today."
"You aren't taking him with us." Mai said.
"Yes, I am."
"Fine but you are picking up after him." Kagome liked him but something that big should be in a zoo.
The large mastiff in question came trotting into the kitchen, head down. He looked more like a horse than a dog. He ended up at the table, head in Tar's lap. She reached down and stroked him behind the ear, "Hear that boy, we are going to the park tomorrow." The dog made some kind of whining noise, "No, I'm afraid you'll have to put on the leash. You know it's a rule."
"I don't think I'll ever get use to that." Kagome said.
"I think she just talks to herself." Mai put her plate in the sink.
Styles picked up his head and looked at her, cocking his head to the side. He let out a bark and shook his head. Tar started laughing, "He said to tell you, you're begining to bleed."
"What? I'm not due for another three days." She ran to the bathroom.
"Hah," Kagome started laughing when shrieking came out the bathroom. "I think I'm going to take a shower then get some sleep. Have a good night, see you in the morning."
"Cheer up it'll be fun."
