Together but Torn Apart

Chapter Two

Sango turned off the water sliding into the warm depths. It has been six months since the final battle and she'd brought Kagome home. At finding herself stuck she'd sank down to her knees and cried. The impact of everything hit her. Everyone she had loved was gone. Her brother, her constant companion, and the man she loved. Even thoughts of Shippo and Inuyasha caused her to cry. In a strange way the group had somehow become a family. Through the arguements and little spats they had all loved and respected one another. She'd stayed in the well until a hand had touched her shoulder. She turned to find Kagome's kid brother standing in the well beside her. On their own accord her arms went around his waist. Souta hadn't complained but let the strange girl hold him while she cried. Mrs. Higurashi came to fetch the two from the well after tending to Kagome's wound and seeing her resting in bed. They had heard the girl begin to cry which meant the well no longer worked. She would be stuck there with them, in a strange place.

Mrs. Higurashi tended to her like she would her own daughter. Deep down she believed the well had closed as soon as the girl came through. Kagome would be very distraught upon hearing that everyone, especially Inuyasha was dead. Atleast this way the girls would have each other to get through the grief. They would need each other.

Kagome was more than distraught at hearing the news from Sango. Upon waking to find Sango sitting in her bedroom crying her heart had broken. For days they stayed in the small bedroom crying and talking. Their friendship got them through the loss. Getting Sango use to her new home filled a lot of their time. Mrs. Higurashi even went out and found some clothes for the family's newest member. Everyone welcomed her with open arms. She was part of Kagome's past and their future.

Sango was amazed at how much this era was different from her own. The first time she'd seen an automobile she'd panicked trying to attack the metal object. So Kagome had decided to take a tour of town showing her new sister all there was to see. Of course Sango stayed home while Kagome finished up her schooling. She was there to help Kagome study to finish up her last year of school. The family was there to see Kagome graduate. Sango didn't see the point in it but was happy for her friend. The months went by very fast. They both were trying to start over, never forgetting those they had loved and lost. The bond between the two got stronger each passing day. If Kagome went somewhere there by her side was Sango, inseperable.

Some nights Sango would wake up crying over Miroku. He had been a pervert but she missed him. Somedays she sat waiting to feel his hand stray to her backside. The touch she longed for never came leaving her with a sense of loss. Tears would come leaving her limp in sadness. Kagome would rush to her side to comfort her.

On the nights Kagome would cry for her hanyou, Sango did the same for her. Kagome would give anything to have him call her useless and to complain. She had always known deep down they weren't destined to be together but her heart couldn't help but love him. Some nights after a round of tears the girls stayed up for hours speaking of both men.

Kagome had removed the desk and rearranged the room to add another bed. They shared most of Kagome's clothes being near the same size. Sango was a little taller so had needed her own pants.

Sango was relaxing in the tub when a knock came at the door. "Yes."

"Don't get all pruney in there. Mom said breakfast will be done in about ten minutes. I'll wait for you and we can go down together." Kagome told her.

"Okay," Sango didn't want to get out but her stomach growled telling her she'd do it anyways. Today Kagome wanted to take her
to something called a carnival. (AN: Kinda got this idea from another fanfic, can't remember name but Kagome did meet the YuYu guys there in that story. Thought the idea was very brilliant for a meeting place. Just wanted to give the author credit for that idea. Kudos to you! Thanks.) The idea of being surrounded by a lot of people filled her with dread. She'd went to something called a mall with her new family and almost freaked. People were rude as they rushed by heedless of those they bumped into. Kagome had informed her that almost everyone within so many miles came out to enjoy the events that would take place. She had objected at first. Then Souta had begged her to come with them, his smile had looked so much like Kohaku's that she'd given in.

Kagome was putting on her socks when Sango emerged out the bathroom in only a towel. She smiled at her, today was going to be fun. Anything to keep their minds off other things. "Better hurry or Souta will eat everything before we get downstairs."

"Okay," Sango dried off and put on the clothes Kagome had placed on the bed for her wear. "When are we leaving?"

"Right after breakfast. It opens up at nine o'clock on the weekends. Though it usually doesn't get too crowded until after lunch time. I wanna ride most of the rides before that happens."

"What are rides?" Sango put on the thing Kagome called a bra. She was informed that all the young women of this era wore them. It was to keep the breasts perky and shapely. Though Sango saw nothing wrong with the way her breasts were shaped. Ofcourse the older women of her time did sag after a certain age.

"You'll see," Kagome couldn't wait to get her on a roller coaster. She knew Sango wouldn't be scared of heights not after riding on Kirara. Sneakers took the place of her usual loafers. Running in loafers always left blisters on her tender feet. Made her wonder why she hadn't thought of changing her foot wear earlier.

A few minutes later both girls were seated at the table. Both had on blue jeans, Kagome was wearing a blue sweater while Sango had on a green one. Kagome kept her hair down like normal but Sango had let their mother french braid hers. Breakfast was eaten fast without much talking. If anyone tried to make small talk Souta would comment on hurrying. He was very excited about going today. His friends were suppose to meet him near the entrance at a certain time. The horror house was suppose to be very scary this year. Him and Asaku had a bet on who would chicken out on riding it.

Everyone piled into the vehicle, making plans on when to meet and the rules. Of course the rules were meant for Souta, not the girls. Both being eighteen and nineteen they were old enough to go off on their own. They pulled into the parking lot to find it already filling with people. Kagome and Sango set off on their own after promising to meet up with everyone at nine o'clock. Which gave them eleven hours to enjoy themselves.
