Suspictions

“Kagome, wake up.” he said.

She opened her eyes. He had on his hakama and his undershirt. He was standing a few feet away. “What? She asked.

“Miroku is coming.” he replied.

Kagome got up and found her pants. She blushed when she noticed InuYasha watching her pull them on, with a heated look in his eyes. She couldn’t wear her shirt, so his haori would have to do. She heard InuYasha outside.

“We’ve been looking for you since yesterday morning.” Miroku said.

“Well you found me.” InuYasha replied.

Sango and Kirara landed beside the monk. “Kagome is gone.” Sango told him.

“She’s with me.” he said.

Kagome came out of the cave. “I got lost in the woods and InuYasha found me.” she announced.

“Kagome.” Shippou cried. “We were so worried.” he ran to jump in her arms but stopped short. “What...”

InuYasha gave a low growl and Shippou shut his mouth. He jumped into Kagome’s arms.

Sango looked like she was going to say something, but Kagome spoke first. “The shard is coming this way. InuYasha come with me before it gets here.” she went back into the cave.

“They sure are acting odd.” Miroku said.

“That’s what worries me.” Sango replied.

“Here.” Kagome said taking off the haori. She smiled shyly as InuYasha stared at her bare chest. “Not now. I think you’ll need this. The demon coming is powerful. Give me your undershirt.” He gave a soft whine as she closed his shirt around herself. “Hurry the shard is close.”

“Stay here.” he said and he took off.

Kagome walked to the entrance of the cave. She saw a large lizard demon come through the trees. “It’s between his eyes.” she called.

InuYasha nodded and drew Tessiaga. Everyone gasped. The sword had taken on the a pink glow. He didn’t have time to worry about it as the demon attacked. InuYasha jumped into the air and aimed his blow at the shard in the demon’s head. The shard flew out and as the sword continued down piercing the demons flesh. As it did the light that surrounded the sword spread and the demon burst apart as if it had been purified.

Kagome retrieved the shard and joined the others.

“What was that?” Miroku asked.

“How the hell should I know.” InuYasha replied, even though he thought he had an idea. It confused him. It shouldn’t be possible. “Let’s get our stuff and get out of here.”

Kagome climbed on his back. “We have to get there first, so I can get dressed.” she whispered. He nodded in response.

When the others arrived Kagome was packing her bag, so they could leave. That night at camp Kagome realized that since it would take four days to get back to the village, she would have to leave as soon as they arrived.

She was disappointed that she wasn’t going to get to spend anytime alone with InuYasha for so long. She wanted to tell her mother what had happened before she told anyone else, and InuYasha had readily agreed. She would tell them all about going home, when InuYasha returned from hunting.

InuYasha was trying to catch the scent of something they could have for dinner, when he felt a familiar sting on his neck. He smashed the old flea. “What do you want Myoga?” he asked.

“Master InuYasha, you have taken a mate.” he said.

“Keh.” came his reply. He drew Tessiaga and when it transformed it cast a pink glow. “Tell what you know about his. How did this happen?”

“How indeed?” Myoga asked. “I would not have thought it possible. To my knowledge it has only happened a few times before and always with two very powerful demons.”

“Spit it out already.” InuYasha growled.

“Be thankful you are hanyou Master InuYasha. Your human blood is protecting you as you share your miko’s power.” Myoga told him. “When did you claim your mate?”

“Two nights ago.” InuYasha said.

“You claimed her on the full moon?” Myoga asked. He nodded. “Have you noticed your urges harder to resist on that night?”

“Yes.” he replied.

“Master InuYasha, the full moon is the night on which a hanyou may conceive a hanyou child with their mate.” Myoga told him. “Why did you not resist as before?”

InuYasha’s eyes opened wide as what Myoga said sank in. “She’s going to kill me.” he groaned. “I couldn’t stop, because she was in heat.”

“Then congratulations are in order.” Myoga told him. “I expect you will soon find your mate with child.” InuYasha smashed the old flea again and resumed his hunt. Maybe he’s wrong InuYasha thought. She might not be.

When InuYasha returned to camp he gave Kagome a look she couldn’t read. He decided not to tell her until he knew for sure.

“When we get back, I have to go see my family, for my birthday.” Kagome said breaking the silence. “I’ll be gone for several days.”

The others expected InuYasha to protest, but he remained silent. “What, no argument from you InuYasha?” Miroku asked.

“What the hell do I care if she leaves?” he growled and jumped into a tree.

Kagome knew he didn’t mean it, but it still hurt. InuYasha watched as Kagome frowned a little before managing to return the smile to her face. Baka, you hurt her feelings. He would have to wait for the others to fall asleep now, so he could talk to her.

At last. He had started to think that they would never fall asleep. He jumped down and touched Kagome’s cheek lightly. She opened her eyes. He leaned down and kissed her. “I didn’t mean it.” he whispered.

“I know.” she replied. “Will you stay with me for a while?”

“Keh.” he replied and leaned against the tree behind him.

The fourth night they arrived back in the village. Kagome decided to wait until morning to leave to visit her family.

While everyone was sleeping InuYasha snuck off to a place known only to him. It was where he used to spend the new moon, before he met Kagome. He lifted a rock and pulled a small box, out of a hole he had revealed. It contained the only things he had of his mother. He found what he was looking for and returned to the hut.

Morning came and Kagome prepared to leave. She shouldered her bag. “Give that to me wench.” InuYasha said. He took the bag from her.

They walked to the well. “Are you coming?” She asked.

“You didn’t think I was staying here did you?” He asked in reply.

“Won’t the others wonder where you’ve gone?” Kagome questioned.

“I always leave when you aren’t here.” he told her. He pulled her into his arms and jumped in. He pressed his lips to hers as they passed through time.

They leapt out of the well and Kagome led they way into the house. Her family wasn’t home. She found a note from her mother on the table, telling her that they would be back in a couple hours. Kagome was relieved to have at least a little longer before she had to tell her mother about her and InuYasha.

He followed her upstairs and set her bag on the floor. She sat on the edge of the bed. He could tell that she was nervous. He sat bed side her. He put his arms around her and she leaned against him letting his pleasant scent relax her. Soon he started kissing her softly on his mark. It stirred something inside Kagome and she couldn’t resist. She moaned softly.

They laid back on her bed. She stopped him. “What if mama comes home?” she asked.

He growled softly. “I’ll hear them.” He told her, and returned to kissing her.

He slid his hand under her shirt and massaged her breast gently. She pressed herself hard against his hand. She slid one arm under his shirt and ran her fingers across his chest. She smiled when she felt a shiver run through him. She was surprised that he wasn’t rushing things. He seemed content just to kiss her and gently caress her body. He lost himself in her.

“Kagome dear.” her mother said opening the door.

InuYasha jumped off of Kagome and ended up on the floor at the end of her bed. Kagome sat up and pulled her shirt down at the same time. Both were blushing and couldn’t bring themselves to meet her mother’s gaze.

“Mama I...we...” Kagome started.

Her mother smiled. “Welcome home. I’ll see you downstairs in a minute.” she said and shut the door.

“I thought you said you’d hear it if they came home?” Kagome asked, glaring at InuYasha.

“I thought I would, but when I was kissing you I couldn’t think of anything else.” he admitted quietly..

She wanted to stay mad at him, but how could she after he had said something like that. She breathed heavily. “Time to face the music, I guess.” Kagome said to herself.

“What?” InuYasha asked.

She realized the expression confused him. “I means it is time to go talk to mama, because no matter how long I put it off, I am still going to have to do it. Wait here.” He nodded. He had no desire to face her mother.

Kagome ventured into the kitchen. Her mother brought some tea to the table and sat down. Kagome sat across from her. “Mama I’m sorry.” she said softly.

“For what dear?” her mother asked. “If you are sorry, because you didn’t want to be doing that with him, than I’ll kill him, but if it because I saw you, don’t be.”

“Nani?” Kagome asked, surprised by her mother’s reaction.

“Kagome, you will be 18 in a few days. If you had a more normal life I’m sure I would have caught you kissing your boyfriend on your bed more than a year ago.” She said. “I was young once too. I do however expect to learn when you and InuYasha’s relationship changed.”

“So you’re not mad then?” Kagome asked.

“Of course not. I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. Especially since in InuYasha’s time, you are past the age when you should be married and having children. You consider the past your home now don’t you?” Her mother asked.

“I don’t know when I stopped coming home and started visiting my family, but yes.” Kagome replied.

“So tell me what happened.” she said.

Kagome took a deep breath. She told her mother how they had battle Naraku and to save her friends she had shattered the jewel again and then healed InuYasha and Sango. How she ended up exhausted and how InuYasha had started acting different. “Mama InuYasha isn’t my boyfriend.” she said softly.

“He is more then?” her mother asked. Kagome nodded. “Maybe he should come down here and you two can explain exactly what this means.”

Kagome went up to get him, so she could tell him what her mother knew so far. “She’s not mad?” he asked.

“No.” Kagome replied.

They sat down across from Mrs. Higurashi and Kagome took InuYasha’s hand under the table. “InuYasha, Kagome said you are more than her boyfriend. What exactly does that mean? I assume demons have different customs than humans when it comes to things like this.” she said.

Kagome could see that he wasn’t going to answer. “We’re mates.” Kagome said.

“Mates?” she asked. “I am assuming that means you two have been intimate.” she could tell by their blushes that the answer was yes. “I certainly hope that isn’t all it means.”

InuYasha growled. Kagome squeezed his hand. “Of course that isn’t all it means.” he said. “Inu Youkai mate for life.”

“So then it is like being married?” she asked.

Kagome nodded. “But it is more than that. It is hard to explain. The only way to end it would be for one of us to die, and then it probably wouldn’t matter because the other would follow.”

“And this is what you both wanted?” she asked. InuYasha growled loudly and got up from the table and went outside. “What did I say?”

“He thinks you are implying that he might have forced himself on me in some way.” Kagome told her. “Mama we both wanted this. The truth is he wasn’t going ask me to be with him because of what people would say. He didn’t want me to have to go through that. It was more my choice than his.”

“If you are happy, then I am happy for you. I guess I should go talk to him.” she told her.

Mrs. Higurashi went outside to find what she guessed was her son-in-law sitting in the sacred tree. “InuYasha.” she said. He didn’t answer but she knew he could hear her. “I never meant to imply that you would have forced Kagome to do anything she didn’t want to. I forgot for a moment that in your time people would think that because you are a half demon. I just wanted to make sure both of you were happy with your decision. I know you would never hurt her, or else I would not have let her leave with you these last three years.” He finally jumped down. Kagome’s mother hugged him. “I’m sorry. Welcome to our family.” she said. “But I fully expect you to at least call me Asami from now on. You are my son now.”

InuYasha didn’t know what to say, but he managed to grunt out a thanks and they went back inside.

“Now that we have that settled, we have a birthday to plan.” Asami announced.

InuYasha spent most of his time in the tree, while Kagome and her mother spent the next few days, getting ready for her party. Kagome was upstairs getting dressed while InuYasha sat in the kitchen with Asami. “Oh InuYasha, I should have asked if there was something you wanted me to get for Kagome.” she said.

“I have something.” he replied, showing her a small folded cloth.

“Let me get you a box to put that in.” Asami said. She let and returned with a small box. Once his gift was inside, he stuck it back in his haori.

Soon there was a knock at the door, which Kagome answered. Her three best friends had arrived and much to her dismay Hojo was with them. “You three my room.” Kagome said. She could hear InuYasha growling, but no one else seemed to notice. “Hello Hojo. I’ll be right back.” She was going to kill those three girls.

“Happy Birthday.” Eri said quietly when Kagome came in.

“Why is Hojo here?” she asked.

“We invited him.” Yuka replied.

“Why?” Kagome raved. “I told you all I wasn’t interested in him and now InuYasha is going to be really upset.”

“That two timing boyfriend or yours?” Arumi asked.

“He’s not two timing me.” Kagome said. “And he’s not my boyfriend. He is my fiancé and we we’re waiting for my birthday to get married.”

Her friends knew not to test Kagome’s temper. “We’re sorry.” Eri said. “We didn’t know.”

“I’ll forgive you if you keep Hojo away from me and don’t bother InuYasha.” Kagome said. Her friends nodded and they went downstairs.

Hojo was standing where she left him. Her friends went to talk to him while she pulled InuYasha outside. She could tell he was mad. “I’m sorry. I didn’t invite him.” she said softly.

“Stay away from him.” InuYasha growled.

“Why?” she asked.

“He wants to claim you. He reeks of it.” InuYasha said.

“But I already have a mate.” she replied. She hugged him close and breathed in his scent. It relaxed her.

He raised her head and kissed her. He slid his hand under her shirt and growled. Kagome realized something had changed. He smelled different, better, more enticing. She wanted to feel him, taste his skin. He pushed away.

“Kagome, we can’t now.” he breathed.

“What happened?” she asked. “All of the sudden I knew you wanted me and I couldn’t resist.”

“You could smell it.” he told her.

“So, is that how you feel every time you’re close to me?” she asked “And how come I can smell it now?”

“Now do you understand how hard it is for me to resist you?” he asked. She nodded. “I’ll explain the rest later. Just get close to Hojo and you’ll see I’m right about him.”

“All right.” she said. “Please try not to get too upset today and remember I don’t want anyone but you.”

They went inside. Hojo approached Kagome and held out her gift. When her hand touched hers as she accepted it, she was assaulted by his scent and it made her nauseous. No wonder InuYasha was so upset.

They ate the food Asami had prepared and had cake. Kagome opened her gifts and thanked her friends. Finally they went home.
