Chapter 3 A Little Privacy Please

Chapter 3 A Little Privacy Please

Kagome walked beside Lord Sesshomaru. He moved slowly, guiding her through the darkness. Her heart was racing, somewhat in fear, and somewhat at the shear close proximity of such a majestic being. Her mind reeled with thoughts, doubt... anxiety. She knew Inuyasha would be furious with her. Still she just couldn’t turn the guy down. He’d saved her life just a few days ago, and to be honest, she was about to die of curiosity. She had gone through it in her head so many times that she thought she’d burst. Why did he save her?

Kagome glanced over to Sesshomaru. His regal countenance belied his aristocratic heritage, and his ethereal beauty was breath-taking. He moved with such grace that he made her feel like a klutz. Even his long flowing white tresses moved as if they were trained to sway at just the right moment. His face, though hard, had the most delicate magenta markings on his cheeks and just over his eyelids. His blue crescent moon, centered perfectly on his forehead, spoke silently of his power. His very aura tingled against her skin.

Sesshomaru knew she studied him. He could feel her eyes taking in every inch of his appearance. He wondered what she was thinking, behind those enormous brown eyes. Feeling her gaze roaming over him, was almost like being touched by her. It left his body yearning for more. Deliberately he led her through a narrow path, strewn with fallen limbs. Like the ever-vigilant gentleman he placed his hand on the small of her back to steady her as she stepped over the debris. His calculated move was rewarded with a lovely smile of appreciation.

When they came to the edge of the small stream, Sesshomaru guided her to a patch of tiny wildflowers amongst the soft grass. He indicated for her to sit, which she did, folding her long legs beside her. He removed his swords, and armor, and lowered himself next to her. The two sat, silently for a short time, enjoying the sounds of the brook rushing by. The moonlight danced on the waters surface, giving the scenery a magical effect. Just as he had planned.

“Um... Sesshomaru-sama... why did you wish to speak to me?” Kagome asked softly. She had waited for him to break the silence, but it was beginning to look like he was content to just sit.

Sesshomaru, who had not yet removed his eyes from her lovely face, had been putting off his reason. His immense self-confidence, slipped just a little. The sudden, and unwelcome thought that she would deny him, did strange things to his gut. He didn’t like that feeling. He wished to never feel it again. She was torturing him, and she had no clue at all, of his current torment.

“Miko...” he began.

“Kagome, please.” She requested politely.

“Kagome, I must confess, that I have found myself in a perplexing situation.” Sesshomaru stated. He watched as she raised one delicate eyebrow in curiosity to his coming confession. He took a deep breath, to steady himself.

“You see, I find myself quite smitten by you.” There. He had said it. By the gods, he had finally said it. If she turned away from him, then maybe he could gather what little honor he had left and go back to his normal life.

Kagome gasped at the demon lords’ confession. She never in a million years expected to hear those words from him, a man who tried to murder her several years ago. Not a man... a taiyoukai. An all-powerful demon war lord. ‘Oh great. Could my life get any more complicated? My secret admirer is the Demon Lord of the Western Lands. I’ll bet he wouldn’t think to send me a candy-gram on valentine’s day.’

Kagome looked into his eyes. Trying to determine if he were playing with her or being sincere. Although his face gave no sign of emotion, his eyes betrayed him. They looked tortured, and sad. Kagome felt bad that it was her, that put that look in his beautiful golden eyes. She didn’t want to see sadness there, so she smiled.

When Sesshomaru seen the smile curve across her perfect little face, it filled his heart to brimming with happiness. She had not rejected him. He still had a chance.

The enchanted moment came crashing to an end when Inuyasha burst through the trees behind them. Panting heavily, the hanyou was now in one hell of a foul mood.

Inuyasha had smacked Miroku flat before he took off after Kagome and Sesshomaru. The stupid monk just let her go off with his ruthless full demon brother! To further piss him off, the bastard had lead Kagome through some of the thickest fucking bushes after he had done everything in his power to mask his scent. Now, here, he finds the son of a bitch sitting all cozy with Kagome! He had even tossed his armor and swords!

“Sesshomaru! What the Fuck do you think your doing?!” He spat. To annoy Inuyasha even further, the demon never moved from his spot. He simply sat staring like an idiot at Kagome.

“Hey! I’m talking to you!” Inuyasha pushed the issue.

“Calm down Inuyasha, Kagome is in no danger with me,” Sesshomaru soothed in his silken voice.

“That’s the fucking problem! It’s the ‘with you’ part that I don’t like!” the irate hanyou shouted.

Sesshomaru shook his head in distaste. His proverbial thorn had, just abruptly ended the most pleasant moment of the demon lord’s long life. Inuyasha... Inuyasha and his rants. Inuyasha and his mouth. Inuyasha and his disrespect. If Kagome were not sitting here, observing this whole affair, he may have just sliced the arrogant whelp’s head clean off. Slow and gracefully, Sesshomaru arose from his comfortable spot next to Kagome.

Kagome feared this would not end well. She could feel the fury exploding off of Inuyasha, and now, Sesshomaru stood to face him, in the most deadly composed fashion. She had actually been enjoying her time with Sesshomaru, strange as it may seem. He had been so considerate and kind. Not at all like the heartless killer they all thought him to be. Before she even had the chance to talk to him further, Inuyasha shows up to the rescue, but this time... she didn’t want to be rescued.

It would have been easy to say that Inuyasha crushed her fragile feelings for him, by his constant devotion to Kikyo, but that wasn’t the entire reason. There was so much more. Kagome had matured these last years, into a woman, who had wants and needs that Inuyasha was unprepared to meet. His arrogant youth persona had grown old fast. She loved him still. She had no doubt about that, but it was no longer a romantic love. She had admitted that long ago. Three years of wondering feudal Japan had brought her no commitment from the hanyou, and as time went by her feelings began to change.

Kagome had taken a short interest in Kouga, the prince of wolves, but facing reality was something Kagome new all too well. As handsome, strong, and faithful as Kouga was, he was unprepared to take on the full time responsibility of a human wife. She was from a place with automobile’s and hot tap water. Kouga lived in a cave. That relationship was doomed from the start, so after a little flirting and a few intimate kisses, Kagome broke his heart. Of course, you can’t keep a good wolf down, and the prince was back macking the ladies very soon after. He was still apt to sweep her into a tender embrace, whenever their paths would cross, and Kagome didn’t really mind. It really seemed to piss Inuyasha off, though.

Inuyasha never did accept the fact that she was courting Kouga the wolf. He never really liked the prince anyway, so Kagome didn’t let that stop her. Inuyasha would rant and rave, acting like a spoiled brat the entire day before she was to meet with Kouga for a date. By the time she actually left Inuyasha’s presence, he had worked her up until she almost had a hard time enjoying herself. Kami, she could hear him now... Kagome you should be ashamed courting that mangy flea bitten wolf! The happiest she could remember seeing Inuyasha was the week after she broke it off with Kouga. She couldn’t remember him arguing once with anyone in their group for at least six or seven days.

Now Kagome knew her taste in men wasn’t the best. Heck she’d heard that plenty of times from her friends at school, and she was no baka, she was well aware of her attraction to dangerous men. Somehow a ‘nice’ young man just never appealed to her. She tried to like nice guys. She had dated several back at home. She couldn’t even bring herself to like Hojo, who was every girl’s dream. The last she heard, Hojo was in college to become a physician. It seemed that he had taken such an interest in her many ‘childhood ailments’ that he chose to pursue medicine as his profession. Good for him. He was a really nice guy.

The guys that Kagome liked were the one’s that stirred that fire in her soul. The one’s who lived on the edge. The bad boys with attitude. Yep, that was her curse. She had given up a long time ago on settling for a nice guy, because she couldn’t be with someone she didn’t love, and she was simply incapable of loving a nice guy.

So here she finds herself, in the middle of a dark forest being courted once again. Only this time, it was by the taiyoukai of the Western Lands, Lord Sesshomaru. She’d never seen that coming. Oh she wasn’t completely innocent to his attraction for her. Their eyes had met before, and she had felt that fire flash through her body. Not a fire of fear, but a fire of mutual attraction. She had wondered if she had been imagining it then... the way he had held her gaze across the battlefield. After tonight, she knew her senses had not betrayed her.

Kagome stood up just as Sesshomaru took another step towards Inuyasha. Both were locked in a battle of wills. She knew the look on both of their faces. They were about to fight.

“Stop this right now!” Kagome yelled, gaining the attention of both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. Inuyasha started to open his mouth to spill out his angry words, but Kagome stomped her foot once and glared at him. “Inuyasha, shut up! I have heard enough of your foul mouth for one night! I do appreciate your concern for me, but I happen to have been enjoying my talk with Sesshomaru. Oh don’t look so surprised! Get over it! Now if you don’t mind, we would like a little privacy.”

Sesshomaru stopped his attack on his brother. He wasn’t going to kill him, just rough him up a little. The boy needed to learn a little respect, but it seemed that the miko had done a fine job of putting the runt in his place. Good girl, and the look on Inuyasha’s face was simply priceless. Sesshomaru fought the urge to walk up and push his chin closed, as his mouth seemed to be stuck wide open. Ah yes, this pleased the demon lord. Kagome may be human, but she has the fire of a demoness. He knew he had chosen well.
