Chapter 3: Beware the Toad OR It's Not Easy Being Green

Kouga's hands clutched his ears trying to block out the piercing screams emitting from the terrified child. He vaguely recognized the girl with the funny ponytail but couldn't quite place her. "Will you shut up, just shut up!" he bellowed. Unfortunately, Kouga had bared his fangs while demanding her silence, which only scared her further, causing her shrieks to become shriller.

His wolves had needed a rest from the grueling pace of their run and the sunny meadow near the clear stream had seemed ideal. "Shit! Had I known this spawn of Hell was picking flowers here I would have kept running." A year ago, he would have eaten her as a snack without a second thought; but, under Kagome's influence he and his pack had given up their taste for human flesh. Truth be told, Kouga always thought human meat was greasy; it tended to unsettle his stomach. So, it wasn't too big a sacrifice to make for the love of his life.

Clamping a hand over the child's mouth Kouga shouted, "Quiet!" The girl's eyes widened in fear but she stopped wailing. "Now, go home or I'll feed you to my wolves." Her screeching cries started again. "I said...OUCH!"

Kouga glared at the human whelp that had dared bite him as he tried to pry his hand from her clenched mouth. "Damn," He thought, "She's got a strong grip for a human." Kouga growled. "You call those fangs, Human. Take a look at mine." He bared his fangs then said, "Let go, now or I'll bite your hand off!"

Immediately the child released Kouga's chewed hand. Kouga wiped the girl's slobber off his injured hand and stared in annoyance at the tiny teeth marks indented upon his skin. "Listen, Brat. You're going too leave nOW!"

The human pup had kicked his left shin and stomped on his right foot. She ran across the field screaming, "Jaken!"

A few of the wolves had instinctively started to chase her but Kouga commanded them to stay. "Let the whelp go." Kouga lay down upon the ground and stared at the clouds while his wolves rested. Moments later, his wolves started growling and he leapt to his feet. Kouga laughed hysterically as he watched what appeared to be a large, angry toad with a giant stick hobble toward him.

"Impudent demon! How dare you attack my Lord's ward!" Jaken raised the Staff of Two Heads and in a swift motion smacked the laughing wolf demon on his skull. No longer amused, Kouga knocked the staff out of the toad's hands and grabbed the green imp by its throat, dangling it several feet above the ground.

Just as he was about to fling the annoying creature across the meadow, Kouga's wolves started barking furiously. "What the fuck!" Kouga dropped the imp in his shock upon seeing the little girl astride a two-headed dragon.

"Don't worry, Master Jaken. Rin and Ah-Un will save you."

The toad sighed. "Humans," he muttered. Realizing he was no longer in the clutches of the wolf youkai, Jaken hopped quickly to the Staff of Two Heads. As Jaken swung the staff wildly in the air and laughed maniacally, Kouga stalked toward the toad with every intention of beating it into a lumpy, green pulp. The ball of fire Jaken sent streaking toward him from the staff changed the wolf demon's mind.

Kouga dove to the side and stared at the patch of scorched earth where he had stood mere seconds ago. Howling, Kouga's wolves rushed to protect their alpha circling the imp and the girl atop the two-headed dragon. Not wanting crispy fried wolves, Kouga ordered his minions to retreat. Dodging Jaken's fireballs, Kouga managed to once again knock the toad's staff from its weak grip. Kouga smirked in satisfaction as he squeezed the imp's neck making the irritating creature's eyes bulge.

"Let Jaken go!" shouted the human child. Turning to glare at the girl, Kouga was clobbered by the large rock she had chucked at him.

"You want him, Whelp; go get him." He flung the green imp to the far side of the field watching in a mixture of anger and amusement as the toad flapped its arms in a vain attempt to fly.

Ah-Un lumbered toward the crumpled form lying unconscious across the field. Carefully balancing herself, Rin stood atop the overgrown lizard clutching another rock. Raising the jagged rock above her head she said, "Leave now, Demon before Lord Sesshoumaru returns and hurts you."

"Shit, Sesshoumaru!" Kouga was familiar with the Demon Lord's reputation for swift, violent retribution against any creature foolish enough to steal or damage his property. Deciding he wouldn't relish having his lungs ripped out of his body by Dog Turd's vicious brother, Kouga wisely chose to leave. Before racing away he hollered, "I have a message for Lord Sesshoumaru from his brother, Inu Yasha. 'Get a haircut, ya Sissy Prissy!'"

Night had fallen by the time Kouga returned to his den. Stomach rumbling from hunger, Kouga ripped the leg off a deer carcass and greedily tore into its flesh. The alpha messily devoured his dinner as various pack members reported the day's events. Nothing urgent demanded his immediate attention so the Wolf Prince headed to bed. Yawning, he flopped down upon his hay pile and quickly fell asleep.

Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Lands, stared at his new possession. "Jaken, tighten the ropes binding the wolf's wrists behind his back."

"Untie me you damn dog! I didn't know the girl and toad belonged to you. Hell, I didn't think you even kept pets."

The demon lord removed the fluffy wrap he kept across his shoulder and slowly wound it around the wolf demon's body. "Silence." Shoving some of the fluff into Kouga's mouth Sesshoumaru said, "I prefer my chew toys quiet and submissive. Since you are neither, lessons in obedience are required."

The fluffy gag muffled Kouga's whimper as Sesshoumaru's only hand shredded Kouga's fur kilt and began roughly fondling him.

"Hey, Lady! Didn't Father teach you that it's impolite to molest your host?"

"Utt Ace!" said Kouga gagging on the fluff in his mouth. Never in a million blue moons did the wolf demon ever believe he'd be this happy to see his romantic rival.

"You're a noble so show some manners. The least you could do is share your new toy with your baby brother."

"Astard!" growled Kouga.

Inu Yasha laughed as he twirled the tip of Kouga's ponytail around one of his claws. "Ya know, Wolf; you're cute when you're all helpless and weak."

Sesshoumaru smacked Inu Yasha's hand. "Don't dare touch my property, filthy half-breed!"

"You're too pretty to satisfy an alpha." Inu Yasha grabbed a fistful of Sesshoumaru's silky hair and yanked. "Kouga needs someone less girlie; someone with a big, powerful sword that springs into action when urgently needed."

Sesshoumaru gripped his little brother's ear and dragged him away from his new pet. Sneering, Sesshoumaru said, "A sword's size and strength is unimportant if the owner is inexperienced or unable to wield it properly."

"Inbred Cur" growled Inu Yasha.

"Flea-bitten Mongrel," replied Sesshoumaru knocking Inu Yasha to the ground. Kicking and biting each other, the two Inu brothers rolled back and forth across the cave floor.

As the possessive dog demons fought over their blue-eyed wolf, Kagome strolled into the cave. "Hey, Kouga-kun."

"A ome!"

The giggling miko removed Kouga's gag as she said, "I can't understand a word you're saying."

"Thank the gods!" groaned Kouga. "Quickly, untie me and we'll escape."

"Oh, I'm afraid I can't do that Kouga-kun." Patting his shoulder sympathetically the priestess continued, "I'm not much of a doer; I prefer to watch. Promise not to tell anyone, but I spy on Miroku and Inu Yasha at the hot springs all the time." Clapping her hands excitedly Kagome grinned wickedly and said, "I can't wait to see Sesshoumaru naked! He's such a piece of eye candy."

All Kouga could do was stare at his perverted, voyeuristic woman in open-mouthed shock. Only when Lord Sesshoumaru's toad-like servant commanded, "Human, remove yoursel" was he able to snap his mouth shut again.

Clammy, webbed fingers squeezed Kouga's knees. Kouga stared in horror as the toad's hands caressed his thighs and slowly traveled upwards. "Those dog's swords are nothing compared to my staff." Jaken flicked his amphibious tongue and tickled the wolf demon's nose before lowering his bulbous head.

"AAAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

"Kouga! Wake up! Kouga!" shouted Ginta as he and Hakkaku desperately tried to pin the wildly thrashing wolf leader. Not knowing what else to do, Hakkaku slugged Kouga in the face.

Clutching his closest comrades Kouga begged, "Don't let the toad eat me. Please don't let it eat me." Dumbstruck, Hakkaku and Ginta stared stupidly at each other as Kouga whimpered in their arms.
