Behind Your Eyes
By Blood’s Fire
Kagome awoke, and yawned. Her first class started at 10:00. Her next class started at 2:00 and ended at 3:30. She groaned, as she picked out a cute skirt with a comfortable shirt. Her skirt was pretty short, but didn't really care, as she pulled on the shirt that said, "I Eat Babies." slipped on her loose socks and shoes, and dragged a comb through her hair.
She grabbed her large yellow bag, and headed out, she had about 20minutes to walk to the campus. She took out a book, and buried herself in it. Ender’s Game. A weird story about a genius, yadda yadda. She occasionally glanced up to see where she was going, and stuffed her nose in the book again. All of a sudden, she ran into something very hard, and very stable.
"Ooph!" She cried as she hit the sidewalk. "Ow!"
"You could at least watch where you're going, wench."
She paused. She knew that voice. "Inu-yasha?" She blinked up at him. "What-?" But she never got to finish, because she was being hauled back onto her feet.
"'I Eat Babies'?" He asked, looking pointedly at her shirt.
"Oh..." She blushed again, and looked away. "I'm gonna be late, I got to go, sorry." She looked into those eyes that mesmerized her. "I'll see you at four." And she turned and left him on the street.
‘I'm gonna have to get her trust soon.’ he thought, his arms still open to where he had been holding her. This was really frustrating him. He kicked an empty soda can off the sidewalk and started back to work.

Classes seemed to last forever for Kagome, her math teacher was a bitch, and her Spanish teacher had a weird Scottish accent. She checked her watch. It was 3:45. She would go and stand by the well, even though it was right by her house. The well house, as she discovered that day at lunch, was actually part of the shrine that she lived in.
She rounded the corner that lead to her home, and walked to the well-house, pulling aside the door. It was dark, and musty. She could smell rotting wood. She sat on the step that lead down to the well, and stared into its depths. Her thoughts began to wander. A hand came from behind her and grabbed her shoulder. She screamed.
"Shh! Shh!" Inu-yasha hushed, sitting next to her. "It's just me."
"Oh, Sorry." She blushed again. "I didn't hear you coming."
They both sat in silence, different thoughts going through each of their heads. He wanted to kiss her, she wanted to talk.
"So, where are you from, anyway?" He asked her, still staring at the well.
"America, I moved from California." Noting his quizzical look, she continued. "My great grandmother and grandfather immigrated from Kyoto to California, like most of the Japanese in that time period. My father was Korean, and my mother is Japanese. What about you?" She smiled at him.
He felt his stomach do somersaults, and he looked at his shoes. "My mother was Japanese. My father was..." He looked at her. He had the urge to tell her every thing. She looked at him so innocently...
"Your father? Is that where you got the silver hair from?" she twisted a silver lock around her finger. It was surprisingly soft. He smiled at her, and she felt something inside her burn.
"Exactly."
"Oh." She let go and started twisting her hands in her lap. "I think it's pretty."
He looked at her. Most of the girls thought he looked like a freak or something. Either that, or they’d ask if it was natural. She looked back. A moment passed when they just stared at each other, a slight smile graced Kagome's lips.
Inu-yasha felt himself lean in. Kagome turned pink, and stared into his eyes. They were merely inches from each other when he noticed what he was doing.
"No." He said, quickly, jerking back to his original position.
Kagome just looked shell-shocked. `What... What... What...' She stared at him. `Did he just do what I think he just did?' she asked herself. Before she could find the answer to the question, he leapt up.
"Sorry, have to go. Same time tomorrow?"
"No, My classes start at 12, if you want breakfast." She started to get up. She felt she had known Inu-yasha for her whole life.
"Sure." He tried to leave, but she grabbed his arm. `Oh no...' he thought desperately.
"Meet me here at 9." She said, letting him go. He let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay. See you then!" He nearly broke off into a run. She shook her head. He had definitely tried to kiss her.
Inu-yasha ran until he reached his apartment twenty minutes later. He fidgeted with the keys a bit, but finally got the damn thing unlocked. He slammed the door behind him, and flopped onto a ratty couch instead of the recliner. She had almost figured out. She had almost discovered his secret. If he had kissed her, she would have known. She would have found out.
But still, he couldn't seem to wipe her face from his mind. Her scent was intoxicating. She smelled like Jasmine... or Laurel... He half wished he had kissed her... he thought blissfully to himself as he drifted into a deep sleep...

The next morning, Kagome explained to her mother that she was going to breakfast with a friend she made. Her mother smiled, and handed her a twenty.
"Go have fun, dear." She smiled back.
"Yes, mom." Kagome nearly ran to the well house, her black skirt blowing slightly in the wind. She was also wearing a black, thin sweater vest over a white three quarter-sleeve button up shirt. She wore a thick belt with double holes. She skid to a stop beside the small hut, and leaned against the wall.
`He should be here soon.' she was almost giddy with anticipation. She glanced up the road, and her heart leapt. She could see him, in a tight black t-shirt and loose black jeans. She ran to him, and nearly jumped into his arms.
"Hey!" She said enthusiastically.
"Hi." He smiled slightly at her. She was so cute. The urge to kiss her was ever stronger. The fact that she was showing so much leg wasn't helping, either. "You know where we're going?"
"I think we should just go to that bakery, and eat out here. Its such a
nice day." She cooed, lifting her friendly chocolate pools to the sky.
"Sounds great." he said, trying not to grin too wide. They set off down the street, both looking as interested as they could in passing trees and signs.
They arrived at the bakery at around 9:10, and Kagome bought them two bagels and a coffee. They brought the food back to the well, and sat down on the stairs that they had nearly kissed on before. Inu-yasha ate in silence as Kagome talked about her old school, and her only other friend that had moved, Ayame. He was, however, trapped in his own thoughts. He wanted to tell her. He wanted her to know.
"Kagome?" He asked, looking at her. She started. He'd never really used my name before...
"Yes?" She gazed into his amber pools.
He gulped. "No matter what, you'd be my friend, right?" he emphasized on the word friend.
"Yeah..." She replied. "What's wrong? She laid a hand on his arm. He shuddered at her touch.
"I- My father..." He struggled. "Do you know about Youkai, Kagome?" he finally asked.
"Yes..."
"My father was a Youkai..." He looked away, expecting her to freak out, or scream... or something. When nothing happened, he chanced a look at her. Her eyes held something he hadn't seen before.
"What do you mean, Inu-yasha?" She asked, scooting closer so that her hip was to his hip. He turned toward her fully, and swooped in on her mouth. If his mouth hadn't been covering hers, her gasp would have been audible. Her brain seemed to turn to mush and leak out of her ears, and it took her a moment to kiss back. Why was he doing this? Why was he- she felt it. He was nibbling on her lower lip, and she felt it. His teeth- no his fangs- bit into her. Their tongues battled for what seemed like hours until they both needed breath. Air burned her lungs as she inhaled, clearly winded. She felt a blush creeping up onto her face. He looked away, a grin playing on his lips.
"Oh." She said after a while, still dumb-struck.
"That's not all." he said, as he pulled off his hat. She gasped as two dog ears poked out from his messy hair.
"They-" She stuttered, "They're not real!" She reached up to touch them. He grinned, showing his fangs.
"Yeah, they are." His speech turned to a low purr, as his eyes slid closed. "Ughnn... That feels good." he groaned, falling back on his elbows. She continued to rub his ears and giggled.
"Wow..." She stopped and gazed into his golden eyes.
He sat up.
"So- So you're not freaked out?"
"She grinned evilly, "Are you kidding?! They're sweet!"
He smiled at her. She smiled back. They had long forgotten the passion-filled kiss earlier, and Inu-yasha felt his frustration ebb away. He knew, of course that he'd have to come back for more, eventually. This Kagome girl... She had changed him.
