Chapter 3: What went wrong?

Kouga could not believe his rotten luck. First the woman he’d chosen had dishonored his love, which he had publicly admitted for all to hear, by accepting another male. And now, the men he had dispatched to retrieve her had returned late and with the wrong girl. “What offence have I committed to anger the gods so?” Kouga asked himself with his eyes turned towards the heavens.

- “You idiots” He bellowed, striking Ookamiichiro and knocking him to the ground with the strength of his blow. “Why have you brought me this woman?”

- “But…but sir.” The wolf stuttered, afraid of being hit again.” You requested that she be brought to you. “

- “No!” Kouga yelled. “I requested that you bring the Lady Kagome. Instead you morons have taken the demon slayer.”

- “My Lord.” Ginta cut in, trying to preserve family honor. “The taiija does fit the description that you gave them.”

Kouga could not refute that fact; Sango did fit the description well. She was, after all, small and black-haired; and did wear very unusual clothing, her slayer suit being quite different from the traditional kimono most human females wore. As for being beautiful, Kouga could not deny it either. He had been struck by Sango’s beauty the moment he had set eyes upon her. She radiate with health and vibrancy, any male would consider her a lovely specimen of womankind. Kouga had even felt the occasional quivering in his loins during the short period he had traveled with the shard-hunting group. But that was beside the point, his men had still kidnapped the wrong woman and he would not let them go unpunished.

- “And how would you know the nature of my description of Kagome, Ginta? Seeing has you we’re not present during the audience.” The wolf prince inquired.

- “I told him.” Ookamijiro spoke up finally, though he took a step back from his liege.

- “So, not only do you fail to complete your mission, but you also feel free to divulge the nature of said secret mission.” Ookamijiro coward beneath the deadly glare of his leader.

Once again, Ginta intervened. Bending low to the ground he made his apologies for his nephews’ blunder.

- “Kouga-sama, please forgive them, they are still quite young.” He said. “If yoush ish it, I will go and fetch the Lady Kagome.”

- “That won’t be necessary.” Kouga told him. “By now, the damned hanyou has figured out that the wench has been abducted and will be more cautious. We have lost the element of surprise.”

- “I understand, my Lord.”

- “You understand nothing you fool.” Kouga said, feeling anger boiling inside him again. “Nervetheless, we can take advantage of your nephews’ incompetence. The bastard will come looking for his friend and Lady Kagome will most likely accompany him. When they arrive, I will give that half-breed the thrashing he deserves and take the miko for myself. In the meantime, I will enjoy the demon slayer’s company.”

During this time, Sango had remained silent and still. Seeing Kouga standing before her had deflated her fear and she was now overwhelmed by humiliation. She could not believe that two amateurs had kidnapped her. I was degrading! She should have been able to elude them, but the swiftness of their attack had caught her unawares.

- “Kouga, what is the meaning of this?” She appealed herself to the wolf prince directly, angered by his last comment.

Ookamijiro made to slap her for her casual treatment of his prince, but his hand was stayed by Kouga’s firm grip.

- “You are not to strike her. Is that understood?” He waited for his men to acknowledge the order before he released the young wolf’s arm. “Good, now leave us. I wish to speak with the wench in private.”

As quietly as possible the men all retreated from the cave. Kouga closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure. Once he felt calmer, he walked behind Sango and unlashed her wrists.

- “Why did my men bind your hands?” He inquired. “I instructed them to bring you, well Kagome, back unmolested.”

- “I imagine they didn’t want to risk being hit.” She answered with great aplomb.

- “No, I guess they wouldn’t.” Gesturing towards the far corner of the cavern where there stood a low table leaden with food, hetinutinued. “Please join me for my evening meal.”

Sango didn’t buy that magnanimous ruler act for a moment. She had seen Kouga in battle to many times, and she knew he was ruthless and sometimes barbaric. However, she had been deprived of sustenance for too long to refuse his offer. Seating herself gracefully on a plush cushion, Sango filled her plate with victuals; all of which had been provided to satisfy the needs of a human miko. The slayer ate with has much dignity as she could muster despite her disheveled appearance and took small dainty bites of the food.

- “Now, now Sango.” He addressed her arrogantly as he sat down next to her. “There’s no need for ceremony, and no one to impress…I’m sure you’re hungry.”

He didn’t have to tell her twice. With gusto she tucked into the food placed before her. Ravenously, she consumed the wild bore some unseen cook had prepared and sampled the sake that was most likely stolen during a raid. Kouga watched her intensely, fascinated by her small teeth as they ripped into the meat and by her lips, which glistened from the fat. Humm, she has a gorgeous mouth. I wonder what else she can do with it, besides eat and cuss at the houshi.”

Kouga didn’t waste his time on idle thought; he had always been a man of action. He grabbed her wrist and squeezed it until she dropped the chopsticks she was holding. Wrapping his right arm around her waist he pulled her up to his firm chest. His head swooped down and he captured her in a bruising kiss. His tongue snaked out from behind his teeth and he lapped at the flavorful juices that covered her lips. Still unsatisfied, he nipped at her lips until they opened beneath his.

Sango was enthralled by Kougas’ talented mouth. She had always found the wolf prince very handsome and had often caught herself staring at him. When he begged for admittance, she did not deny him but rather allowed his tongue to enter the warmth of her mouth. With supreme dominance, it entwined with her own.

Taking hold of her head, Kouga tugged her closer to his body. Now he could feel all of her as they we’re pressed together from chest to waist. Tantalizingly, he coaxed her tongue into his mouth and sucked on it. The action was infinitely erotic and Sango could not suppress the moan that escaped her.

The sound of her own pleasure filled sigh broke ugh ugh Sango’s hazy mind. “What the hell am I doing? Why am I kissing him? This is the prick that tried to abduct Kagome, the same asshole who had me kidnapped.” When the immensity of the situation dawned on her, Sango began to resiste wee weaseled her hands between their bodies and pushed with all her strength.

- “What the hell do you think your doing?” Sango asked as she shoved him away from her.

- “Enjoying your company like I said I would. “ He answered her, unfazed by her show of resistance.

- “Well you can enjoy my company without sticking your tongue down my throat.” She returned.

- “Why so modest all of a sudden?” He inquired. ”You seemed quite willing to have my tongue down your throat you you so crudely put it, a few moments ago”

- “Well I wasn’t!”

- “Your body said different.”

Sango opened her mouth to refute his statement but no sound came out. It was true; she had taken great pleasure in his kiss. Still, she was not going to admit that out loud, and certainly not when he had to smug smile on his face.

- “However my body may, or may not have reacted, I don’t appreciate being kissed against my will. And since when are you interested anyway? I thought you we’re in love with Kagome.” She said, as she tried to get control over her still rapidly beating heart.

- “True, I do love Kagome.” He said. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate what a beautiful woman sus yos you has to offer.”

- “I’m not offering anything, least of all to you.” Sango was lying and she knew it.” And when did you turn into the gracious host. I recall a time when every other word out of your mouth was a curse but now you talk like some pompous aristocrat.”

- “Self improvement as always been a priority of mine. Now, I finally have the time to concentrate on it.” He explained.

“Oophm, self-improvement my demon slaying ass. He’s working an angle. But if he’s trying to get on my good side for Kagome’s sake than he needs to keep his paws off me. I won’t be used as some playful pastime until he can get his hands on the real thing. Never again!” Sango thought, as an image of Miroku formed before her eyes.

- “Speaking of bettering yourself, why don’t you improve your sorry situation and accept the fact the Kagome does not love you, and never will.” It was time someone made him realize that his pursuit of the young miko was futile.

- “Weither Kagome loves me or not is irrelevant!” He stated. “I have chosen her as my future mate and she will submit to my will.”

- “Submit to your will?!?” Sango parroted. “Is that any way to talk about the woman you love?

Kouga didn’t answer her question. Okay, so maybe that had sounded a bit ruthless but he couldn’t help himself. He had risked ridicule when he told Kagome, in front of his entire tribe, that he loved her. Was he supposed to stand idly by and be humiliated just because she had decided to fall in love with someone else?

- “I am a prince, and with that position comes great responsibility” He explained more calmly, trying to make up for his previous harshness. “It is my duty to take a mate and to produce heirs, and for that I need a strong woman. I need Kagome.”

- “I understand that you want to have cubs, but Kagome is not the only women in Japan. Couldn’t you find some other female? What about Ayame?” Sango suggested.

Again, the wolf prince remained silent. He was surprised at Sango’s use of the word cub. Most humans referred to wolf demon offspring as puppies, which was both wrong and insulting to Kouga. He had no wish to be mistaken for some lowly dog demon. He respected the demon slayer all the more for her proper use of terminology. Maybe that’s why he revealed the secret he had been concealing from his tribe.

- “Ayame has also refused me.” He whispered, still unsure if this was a wise course of action.

- “Excuse me?”

- “I said, Ayame has refused me.” He repeated, louder. “She was growing tired of waiting and would not except me unless I publicly rebuffed my claim on Kagome. And since I couldn’t do that she chose another male.”

Was that sadness Sango detected in his voice? She could hardly believe it; Kouga was normally so arrogant and cocksure. Still mindful that he could take advantage of their proximity, Sango approach him put put a reassuring hand on Kougas’ shoulder.

- “I’m sorry Kouga. I didn’t know” Sango said, pity tinting her voice.

Shaking her hand off his shoulder, Kouga got up quickly. He was the leader of a great tribe, he was of royal blood, and he did not need the pity of some weakling human. Storming out of the cave, he left Sango alone with her thoughts.

- “I guess we’ll talk again once you’ve calmed down.” She said to no one.

There was nothing else for Sango to do but get some sleep and try to forget the events of the last few days, at least for the night. She got up from the ground and explored the cavern. Hidden behind a natural rock formation, she found a large feather pallet covered in soft animal skins. “I think I’ll sleep here tonight. His bed is the least he can offer seeing how uncomfortable his henchmen made me during the trip.” Removing her outer kimono, Sango stretched out on the soft mattress. Pulling the skins up to her nose, she settled down for the night. Things never seemed so bad when one was properly rested.
