Chapter Two: Surprises Come in Sets
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
It had been a week ago when Kagome finally returned from her time. Needless to say, the village was at first shocked that their beloved miko had been turned into a youkai. And a full blooded one at that! After the first initial feelings, things slowly returned to normal. That is, until Kagome began having fits.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~ ~ Flashback ~ ~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
"Come on! You're going to have to do better than that!" Inuyasha yelled at Kagome. Since she had turned, Inuyasha immediately felt that he should help her with her powers. Training her physically endurance and strength was a lot tougher than he'd actually prefer to say.
"Can it, Inuyasha! We've been doing this all day! You know, it does get boring," she added sarcastically. Dodging trees in her way, she leapt from tree to tree with agility she never knew was possible. Pausing for a second, she looks up at the starry sky. It took only that moment for Inuyasha to catch up to her. Taking her by surprise, she lost her balance when he knocked into her.
Landing on her feet, she looked back up at him with glaring sky blue eyes. It was then that she felt the first pains. Doubling over, she muffled a cry with one of her hands. Her back was throbbing spasmodically. Moaning in pain, she tries to block it all out when she felt move in in her back.
"Hey, watch where you're going, wench!" Inuyasha called, not seeing his friend down. Hearing her slight groan, he turned towards her. His golden orbs widening, he leapt down and went to see if she was going to be all right.
"Kagome?"
All of the sudden the sharp daggers in her back quit. It was gone. Drawing a ragged breath in relief, Kagome looked up when she heard Inuyasha call her. What he saw in her eyes almost made his jaw drop. They had shifted from sky colored to a solid steely silver.
Shaking her head slightly, her eyes returned to normal.
"What was that?" He asked her, concerned. (a/n: He cares? . . . CARES! RUN! Oo;;)
Kagome shook her head, showing that she didn't know either. "I have not a clue. If it happens again . . ." her voice dropped off, hoping silent hope that it wouldn't come to that.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~ ~ End Flashback ~ ~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Sucking in her breath sharply, Kagome closed her eyes tightly. It had happened another two times since then. From what she could guess, it was either a side effect of turning so quickly, or something was just wrong with her. She hoped it was more of the former, that way it would eventually wear off. But the bad thing was, it was getting worse.
She also knew that strong negative emotions triggered it. Or at least that was a guess Kagome had made. Whether or not Inuyasha knew it at the time, Kagome had felt like ripping into tiny ribbons when he had pushed her from the tree.
Messaging her temples, she opens her icy blue eyes. What to do now? The thought had been plaging her. She knew she had to leave. But was she going to take the rest of the gang with her?
Sighing over how many questions that had formed in her head since seven days ago, she shrugs it all off. Jumping down from her high perch in the tree, she looks around at the silent campsite. They had left the village on search of a jewel shard. Kagome hated to say it, but right now she had more pressing matters. Whether she liked it or not, when she felt the pains begin, she would feel like murdering something -- or someone -- afterwards.
Making her decision, she takes a piece of paper and a pen from her yellow backpack and writes a short note:
'Dear Sango,
I'm sorry for leaving, but you must understand. I can't stick around any longer. Please don't try to follow me, I will be perfectly fine. I don't know what I'm looking for, but if I stay any longer it could cost you your lives.
With love,
Kagome'
Smiling, she placed it on the ground and set a rock on its edge. With that, she picked up her yellow sack and walked away from her peaceful campsite and loving friends (plus a soon-to-be irritable Inuyasha).
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Rion: I could end it here, but I'm not that mean! ^-^;; It would have been just *way* to short. Anyway, here goes nothing!
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Inuyasha cracked open one eye. The sun was just rising. The night before, he had seen Kikyou, and spent most of his time with her. He would never say that he possibly thought that he was betraying Kagome. Nope, the thought never crossed his mind.
Opening his other sun yellow eye, he looked around the site. Speaking about Kagome, he needed to talk to her. Inuyasha jumped queitly from the tree, and looked around the site. She was nowhere to be seen. Furrowing his brows, he was about to get angry when he noticed a scrap of material under a rock. Curious, he picked it up. Only, he found, he couldn't make out the funny symbols.
"Damnit!" At his vulgar language, and loud shout, Miroku and Sango awoke hurriedly.
"What is it, Inuyasha?" Miroku asked causiously. He quirked his eyebrow when Inuyasha shoved a piece of odd parchment under his nose and snarled out to read it. When he did, he wished he hadn't.
Seeing his companion’s face go pale, Inuyasha roughly growled, "What is it? A ransom note? What?"
Miroku looked at them solemnly anad aad aloud:
"Dear Sango,
I'm sorry for leaving, but you must understand. I can't stick around any longer. Please don't try to follow me, I will be perfectly fine. I don't know what I'm looking for, but if I stay any longer it could cost you your lives.
With love,
Kagome."
He looked up, and couldn't meet their eyes. Inuyasha bristled. "That bitch! She took off when we needed her for the jewel!" With that in mind, he began sniffing for her scent. To his astonishment (and complete anger) he could not find even the faintest trace of her.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
Kagome rested at a hot springs. Where ever she was going, she needed to get away from Inuyasha before he could track her down. She knew that Sango would respect her wish, and leave her alone, but he was another story. Stripping off her clothing, she walked into the springs.
Her muscles relaxed visibly as she got comfortable on the rocks. Pouring some of her shampoo in her hands, she smothered her hair with it. Being mindful and grateful that there were no knots, she scrubbed her head clean. Working on her body, she sighed contentedly as she dipped back into the pool.
Looking over her shoulder, she reached for a towel before her skin could get prune like. 'Wouldn't want that,' she thought ruefully. Wrapping the towel around her slender and very womanly body, she steps from the springs.
Little did she know that her every movement was being observed. And it was not a gaze of a friend, but one of lust and want. Had she known, she would have sent out her miko powers. But, alas, the figure was not visible, for he was not watching her from a tree or the shadows, bu, but from a mirror.
