Shatter 3

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They had found the small abandoned farmhouse during the early morning as the storm started to creep in, forcing them to land and seek shelter before it hit. Once it might have been prospers, but fields had been drowned by a flood at one time, laying down a thick suffocating layer of mud and water. Neatly cultivated fields were now overgrown masses of weeds and polls of still water. The farmhouse itself was overgrown with thick vegetation that acted as natural insulation against the storm.

Sango stood outside the farmhouse, inhaling the cold evening air. Her whole body ached from assorted bruising, every muscle protesting with each move. Her aches and pain came from last night wrestling match with the now unresponsive hanyou safely inside.

The morning they arrived he was calm enough, almost passive. He slipped into a high fever brought on by the wounds, exhaustion and the poison in his veins.

Inuyasha tore at the mattress with his uninjured hand, the claws shredding the marital as he tossed and turned. Sango tried to calm him down but he struggled against her. Her every touch evoked a reaction of fear; he managed to get free of her and lashed out. His once vibrant golden eyes clouded and unseeing.

Her hand went to the side of her shoulder, wincing as she felt the shallow cut that graced her skin under her torn clothing. Inuyasha wasn’t really aware of what he was doing; he had been reacting on instinct.

Returning to the room, she quickly and carefully checked on Inuyasha, his skin was covered in sheen of sweat that glowed in the firelight. His struggles had once again tossed off the meager covers to the floor, leaving him uncovered in the dim air of the farmhouse.

Most his lithe nude body was covered in strips of make shift bandages, his silvery hair plastered to his forehead from the heat of his raging fever.

A sudden flush of heat came to her cheeks as a slight blush raced across her skin at the sight of the nude half breed laying on his back. His chest raising and falling with each labored breath.

Get over it Sango, it’s not like you’ve ever seen a naked male before, she told herself. Yes she had seen plenty of naked or near naked males back in her village were she helped tend wounds. She had not once even some much as blushed at their nudity. But then again, none were as stunning as the Inu hanyou. She could tear her eyes off his unconscious form.

She shook it off, steeling herself as she walked across the duty floor. She picked off the soft blanket off the floor and draped it back over him. He groaned softly and nearly kicked it back off. Now it pooled low around his slender waist, leaving the injured hanyou’s washboard abs exposed.

Sango kneeled besides him and caressed the pale face, following his jaw with her fingers. It was all too easy to forget eh was a hanyou, a half-breed brought into a world that may never accept him. Normally she would be hunting him down. To kill, that is what she had been trained for all her life. To hunt down youkai and kill them with no mercy, no questions asked. Any pleads would have fallen of death ears and edged weapons.

Shaking the train of thought off, she reached over to the small bowl and tried to force feed some liquids to him. Tilting his head up enough to press it to his lips, he coughed and struggled weakly as the water slipped down. It must have been painful with the broken jaw but he needed the fluids.

Parched lips moved slightly as a low groan left them.
He whimpered in pain and fear, trying to shrink back form her gentle touch. Sango ran her hand over his host skin, murmuring nonsense words.

It seemed to help; he relaxed slightly under her hand. It seemed to so strange doing this. Trying to keep someone calm she wouldn’t have hesitated to kill a few weeks ago. If he turned into a full demon again, she swore she would have brought him down by nay means necessary. Now she shuddered at the thought of hurting him like that.

Inuyasha stirred, his back arched off the bed as his clawed hand griped the cloth in a vice like grip. Acting quickly she pressed his back down, using her body to keep him form flailing around. Trapping his wrist so he could take another swipe at her, this one might have been far more damaging.

A low groaning sound came from his bare chest as he fought against her, dislocating the crushed wrist and reopening the wounds. He went limp under her a second later as the toxins ate into his blood.

Sango slowly got off of the limp hanyou, her hand coming to rest on his chest.

“ Inuyasha?”
